History is what gives the French countryside its soul, and at Chateau de Bagnols you are invited to plunge into the splendor of the past. Dating back to the 13th century, this enchanting member of the von Essen Hotels group is set among the vineyards, forests and verdant hills of Beaujolais Country, a few miles from Lyons in southeast France. Antiques and fine original works of art maintain the spirit of the period in a collection of just 21 rooms and apartments, while regional cuisine is served at the two Michelin-starred La Salle des Gardes.

Beautiful setting, staff so welcoming helping us guide our motorhome through their gates, delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and such a comfortable bed in a spacious room. We will be back.

We love this chateau - wonderful rooms, friendly staff, outstanding food. The reason we could not give five stars is it is understaffed. Luca, the manager, is very accommodating and works hard to overcome this, but service at dinner was very slow due to understaffing. Wait staff was friendly but poorly trained for the most part, and could not keep up with demand of a full house. Otherwise, this is a wonderful hotel to visit.

Probably the most amazing place I have ever stayed. The entire staff were incredible, friendly, engaging and made our stay (which was too short) incredible. Truly a must stay for anyone going to the southern burgundy area and is on the list of a “have to return to” chateau. Food was a true gastronomic experience and the mixology was incredible, the Vivant martini is an absolute must.

Great historic hotel wonderful rooms and public areas as good as the photos on the website. Wonderful courtyard formed by the stables block across from the castle. We will be going back again. Great quality food and cooking. Attentive and friendly service. I agree with the hotel dinner menu being short ( 3 choices starter and main course) But not that it only changes monthly. It was a concern expressed to us by other guests we spoke to. We stayed 3 nights which meant we decided to eat out for at least one night. Short menu right but should have a daily special or something similar. It would make this wonderful hotel perfect.
