The Old Fort, Boutique Hotel & Estate in Bequia, West Indies
Seeking an escape from the tourist crowds of the Caribbean? On the charming, secluded island of Bequia, there is a place you can truly call your own. The Old Fort brings the laid-back character of the West Indies to a restored, French-style plantation house that dates back to the early 1700s. Ideal for individuals, couples or intimate groups, this 5-bedroom retreat is tucked into 30 acres of lush tropical gardens with commanding views over the water to Mustique.
You will be enchanted by Bequia's peaceful atmosphere, colorful heritage and natural beauty. A designated marine park welcomes divers and snorkelers with a 7-mile reef, and also offers water activities such as boat excursions, fishing, windsurfing and canoing. Other exciting outdoor activities you may chose to experience could be rainforest tours, hikes to the nearby volcano, golf, aerobics and tennis. Nearby, the quaint waterfront town of Port Elizabeth entices day trippers with its inviting bars, restaurants and craft shops. Spend the morning strolling white or black sand beaches, an afternoon lazing under a coconut tree with a good book, and the evening "at home" savoring fresh barbecued fish and produce prepared with a European touch.

Reviews for The Old Fort, Boutique Hotel & Estate
A must! While most people will probably opt to say near/on the beach, we'd highly recommend a few days at The Old Fort. Extraordinary views, amazingly friendly owners and staff and rooms to die for. Oh, the food is bloody amazing as well. It's a truly unique and special place and one that we'd highly recommend.

My family and I had enjoyable two week retreat at Old Fort Hotel. We felt like we found a true gem in Bequia. Old Fort hotel is a place where your stay will be relaxing, exclusive and extremely joyful. When we arrived first time it already felt like we came back home. We were impressed with the views of the Grenadine islands on the horizon, views of the ocean and golden meadows. The nature is just incredible. We booked a suite with a private balcony and ocean views. We were impressed with a perfect balance between authentic touch in the decor and modern amenities to make a memorable stay. Every detail was telling us a story of this majestic place. Hotel's personnel is very polite, professional and sincere. They made us to feel like very special guests. Especially I would like to give my high recommendations to the manager Miguel for his outstanding personality and hospitality; to our server Shar for being extremely helpful and welcoming. Hotel has a restaurant on site where we had lunch and dinner multiple times and had our breakfast every morning. Food was always served in a timely manner and we had a joy to try one of chef's specials that is always on the menu or how they call it in Bequia "catch of the day" - our favorite was Barracuda and local Tuna..just wow! I have never ate anything more delicious. The food at the restaurant is excellent and staff is very well trained. We had an unforgettable time at Old Fort so we decided to extend our stay for few more days because we didn't want to leave. I am already planing our next visit to Old Fort. We will definitely recommend this hotel and restaurant to all of our friends.
We had an amazing experience for our anniversary. We had the Honey Room with the best view of the garden and the ocean..Miguel and his great team Sarrah and Joshua made our stay a memorable one.The service from the moment we arrived to the final moment we were there was outstanding..We also experienced one of our best culinary experiences of all time..anything you want they provided even if it wasn't on the menu. Everyone we were in contact with was very professional, accommodating and a great source of information. We appreciated the history of the Fort and the Island from Otmar and as well as his kind hospitality..Quirin was another outstanding member of the organization that really handled every moment of that Inn in a very professional and personable manner..We really appreciated all your TLC YOU ALL PROVIDED and we will be back but for a longer stay.. All The Best to all of you and God Bless

The Old Fort is a unique place. We spent two nights in the Sun Room, which takes up the top floor of a tower of the fort. There are four huge windows, one on each side of the room. So the cross ventilation was outstanding, especially when we opened the front door. The breeze kept the room cool and free of mosquitoes, so we didn’t have to use the mosquito netting that was attached to our four poster king-sized bed. The tower is the high point of the Hotel, which is on a hill with panoramic views of the Caribbean and Atlantic. There are only a few rooms at the Old Fort, so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. We spent as much time as possible outside, which was as nice as our room. There are plenty of palm trees and fruit trees, lots of plants, butterflies and birds, including hummingbirds. There is a large infinity pool overlooking the Ocean. At the two ends of the pool are comfortable cushioned benches that were shaded, so while enjoying the pool, we had a choice of being in either the shade or sun. There is an outdoor bar and tables so we were able to eat our meals outside overlooking the ocean view. The dinners were great. There is a complementary continental breakfast. I suggest paying a little extra and getting an omelet. All the staff are very friendly and efficient. A highlight for me was the opportunity to take long hikes of well over an hour on the grounds of the resort. One day we walked downhill from the fort through a field of hay to a bluff close to and overlooking the ocean, where we stumbled upon a wild goat and had views of a cove on one side and a blowhole on the other. The second day we were able to walk down a dirt road towards the ocean. If we had more time, it appears we could have walked all the way down to the ocean. We spent two nights and two full days at the Old Fort. I didn’t feel like renting a car primarily because they drive on the British side of the road, and the roads are narrow and winding and hard to navigate because there aren’t a lot of signs. So we relied on cabs. It is not a long ride to the Turtle Sanctuary and the Firefly and Sugar Reef Plantations. We found that Princess Margaret Beach has the best snorkeling on Bequia. Two more suggestions: Take the time to meet and spend time with Miguel and Sharah. Ask Miguel to arrange for Donovan to drive you around. Very nice and reliable and a wealth of knowledge about the island.

This is a hidden gem atop a high hill location, location, we were the only two couples staying here last week before our Trade Winds trip. The infinity pool, the lovely young mother who served us breakfast and lunch and the rest of Miguel's staff were truly wonderful and made us feel so special Our suites were upgraded, mosquito netting is needed.
