Villa Marsili in Cortona, Italy
Just an hour or so southeast of Florence, the magnificent medieval village of Cortona provides an ethereal setting for Villa Marsili. This exquisite establishment is one of the town's most elegant residences, and a favorite of celebrities such as Diane Lane and Josh Brolin, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Geoffrey Rush. Villa Marsili is truly an enchanting Italian retreat, boasting refined lounges and frescoed bedrooms whose atmosphere retain the grace of the building's original historic character. From public sitting rooms, views embrace the scenic pergolas of the outdoor gardens, and from your elegantly furnished accommodations you can gaze across the gentle rolling hills of Valdichiana.

Every street and piazza brings a cultural delight, from the centrally located Duomo to the 15th-century San Niccolo church. Along with olive groves and Etruscan tombs, the region also yields traditional ceramics, golf, horseback riding and tennis. Experience it all at Villa Marsili.

Reviews for Villa Marsili
Villa Marsili is a lovely hotel just on the outside of Cortona Off the main road and about 10 minutes walk to the main square. The room was spacious enough with a great over the valley below. The room had a minibar with soft drinks complimentary. The breakfast was extensive with the option at a very small charge of a cooked option. My wife found the buffet more than adequate as did I but also chose the cooked eggs. The staff went out of there way to help and made you feel very welcome and gave great advice about local restaurants. There was no bar as such but drinks could be easily ordered on the small terrace outside. Cortona itself is quite small with plenty to do and see lots of bistros restaurants and bars catering for all tastes, and a great base for exploring the wider locale. All in all a lovely place , clean , great location and staff who are really friendly and genuine. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Villa Marsili in May, 2017. The room was amazing. Spacious and colourful. Very comfortable with complementary treats and beverages that that allowed us to relax in our room. Evening
Lovely hotel! Wish we had more time there. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. We had to leave early in the morning and they started breakfast service early for us so we didn't have to go without.
We were 8 people (4 couples) with two cars for one night. A posteriori we all agreed we should be back for a weekend both because of the place (Cortona) and of the hotel. Staff extremely helpful with luggage, cars (the access is a bit tricky) and everything. The rooms nice, large and clean, ours with a breathtaking view on the lower valley and the lake Trasimeno. Reception effective and very kind. Snacks, sweeties etc. available freely in a nearby room. Breakfast unbelievable (we were even served a small good tiramisu: a proposal nobody felt like refusing). The hotel is a short walk (less than 10 minutes) from the centre of the (wonderful) town and all kinds of restaurants and places to visit. Cortona is worth a stop and Villa Marsili is the place to stay. All in all, very pleasant stay, hotel calm and enjoyable.

My wife and I stayed here Apr. 1-3, 2017. The trip was a celebration of our wedding anniversary, as well as our birthdays. We arrived by train and it was easy to take a bus from right beside the train station, to within steps of the hotel (about 15 min). Don't even dream of trying to walk up that hill! Just get the bus tickets at the little coffee shop you see as soon as you exit the train station (unless you want to take a cab - we were in no hurry). Many thanks to Luana Falconi, who we found to be very helpful and kind to us. We were visiting this Hotel on recommendation from our daughter and son-in-law, as they had lived in Cortona for several months and they knew the town well. We had an incredibly beautiful room with views looking out windows, facing magnificent valleys, in 2 different directions! It was a quiet and peaceful location, and we had a great sleep in a big and comfortable bed. Our room and the washroom, were large, spacious, and very clean. Breakfast was incredible! Definitely the best one we had, throughout our entire 3-week trip in Italy. The best supper we had on our trip, was also in Cortona - at a place called "La Bucaccia"! Cortona is a neat little town at the top of a hill, and amongst other things, we were surprised to find that in one of the churches there is a relic from the cross that Christ died on! It was easy to walk to everything we wanted to see in Cortona from the Hotel, but some of it is uphill so be prepared for that if you go. If we ever go back to Cortona, we would definitely stay at this Hotel again.
