Villa Marsili in Cortona, Italy

Just an hour or so southeast of Florence, the magnificent medieval village of Cortona provides an ethereal setting for Villa Marsili. This exquisite establishment is one of the town's most elegant residences, and a favorite of celebrities such as Diane Lane and Josh Brolin, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Geoffrey Rush. Villa Marsili is truly an enchanting Italian retreat, boasting refined lounges and frescoed bedrooms whose atmosphere retain the grace of the building's original historic character. From public sitting rooms, views embrace the scenic pergolas of the outdoor gardens, and from your elegantly furnished accommodations you can gaze across the gentle rolling hills of Valdichiana.

Soothing landscapes and warm hospitality are hallmarks of Tuscany. You will find this and so much more in Cortona, which boasts an amazing wealth of art treasures. Every street and piazza brings a cultural delight, from the centrally located Duomo to the 15th-century San Niccolo church. Along with olive groves and Etruscan tombs, the region also yields traditional ceramics, golf, horseback riding and tennis. Experience it all at Villa Marsili.

Although the general atmosphere of the hotel is couple oriented but you can also enjoy it on a business trip. Best authentic breakfast you can ever have. Friendliest staff, you feel at home from the first step in with the smiles you see all around. On a radius of 50km from Cortona, I wouldn't choose any other place to stay in.

I had seen the Villa Marsili pics online and esp of the fabulous breakfast. We stayed here, rooms are nice (quaint) and individual, overlooking the street or little sitting area outside. Clean and well furnished. HOWEVER, when it came time for that fab breakfast, it was a HUGE disappointment. We arrived about 45 min before the end time and the food was about decimated. Mostly gone...few choices left so I asked for poached eggs. THAT was a big challenge apparently, as when they arrived about 20 minutes later! They were hard, not poached properly at all. I waited over 15 minutes to get a cup of cappuccino and they had the NERVE to CHARGE us for those EGGS! I even went so far as to mention it to the woman on the desk, who I believe is the owner, who simply shrugged and could have cared less that I clearly was expressing my ripoff over breakfast! NOT anywhere I would recommend or stay again. This was on a Story Land n Sea Tour where we paid for high-end accomodations and meals. NOT in this case.

This is a special place; my dream is to return again. We were so lucky to have been recommended this place for oir first trip to Tuscany. The location is ideal, just outside of where the walls of Corona begin. Everything on town easily walkable from here. The rooms made us feel like royalty; large and graciously appointed. The the views from our windows were wonderful. The staff was so lovely, helpful and warm. The breakfast is spectacular; do not overlook each morning's home made specialties. The cocktail hour each evening with complimentary small bites is a delite; do not pass up the local wines they feature. Only minor issue was internet in rooms was spotty; this is a very old structure with thick stone walls; we often went to the lobby and one of the lovely common areas for better connection.

My husband and I stayed one night at Villa Marsili as part of a tour package. What a lovely place! The location just at the edge of Cortona makes it convenient to visit this lovely town and also provides the loveliest views of the surrounding countryside. The owner and staff are warm and hospitable. The rooms are decorated with whimsy and originality. The only reason I chose Very good rather than Excellent is that the bed was a little unforgiving for my comfort. Even so, this was among the most magical of spots on our Italy tour and we have vowed to return again.

This charming hotel is perfectly located to visit Cortona by foot. The atmosphere is wonderful as the staff makes you feel at home. The rooms are very cosy and well equipped. If the staff and rooms are excellent, the breakfast is even better! This place really worth it! I'll recommend it 300%
