A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

Unforgetable experience, fabulous service and staff, tasty food, comfortable beds with spectacular views. Can't wait to return to this historical castle and explore more of its surroundings. Thanks to all concerned for making our 2 day trip a magical experience.

Overall i would give Ashford Castle 5 stars. Its location out in the countryside lends to some fantastic photos to be taken and the grounds are immaculate. The staff is so efficient and friendly and willing to be helpful. We went a little before the tourist season began and yes it saved us some money. Unfortunately that means that not all the eating venues were open and it appears the staff that was there was doubling up on duties. That may be a normal operation for the castle, I did not ask. We only stayed one night and only noticed that things were not fully staffed when we went to listen to the Irish music at 21:30 we were told about at check in and we found out that the musicians didnt feel there were enough people in the Castle for them to stay. Disappointed? Yes, but still over all the castle is a fantastic experience at any time of the year. The town of Cong is adorable and quaint and we loved the connection to the 1952 film The Quiet Man by John Ford ( go see the statue). We also really enjoyed the Falconry. Our guide was so nice and informative ( Miguel was his name) The rooms are awesome and the heated bathroom floors are such a treat. Everything was nice and clean. The food was excellent. I cannot speak to the value of the trip in monetary means but the overall experience was well worth what we did spend. Thank you so much for everything and we hope to visit again one day.

We had one night at the castle while on our tour of Ireland. The once in a lifetime experience was incredible. Walking around the castle and grounds was beautiful. Staff made us feel like royalty. Would love to go back!

A Truly Spectacular Afternoon Tea at Ashford Castle We enjoyed the most spectacular afternoon tea at Ashford Castle yesterday, made all the more memorable by the exceptional service. Although our reservation was accidentally made for the wrong month (genius move on my part!), the wonderfully professional and helpful concierge quickly resolved everything with ease and kindness. The food was outstanding—particularly the chicken finger sandwich on an English muffin, which was absolutely divine. The small sweet treat with Pink Lady flavour was another delightful surprise and beautifully presented. Between the passing showers, we even managed a lovely stroll through the stunning castle grounds and gardens, which only added to the magic of the experience. Thank you, Ashford Castle, for an unforgettable afternoon. Highly recommended!

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
