A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

Our two-night stay at Ashford Castle was the highlight of our visit to Ireland and most elegant and relaxing accommodations and splendid service and amenities. While there are numerous activities and beautiful grounds to explore, we particularly enjoyed horseback riding, spa, and golf.

We went for a family trip in August to celebrate a birthday. Having never been there before, we booked several days at the Lodge and several days at the castle to get a feel for the estate. Both establishments are lovely and highly recommended. That being said, our stay at Ashford Castle was absolutely magical. The staff are warm, the accommodations are tasteful and luxurious, and the food is stellar. I was quite impressed with the staff from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with warmth and made to feel comfortable and welcome immediately. The wait staff was personable and knowledgeable. Each meal was prepared with care and skill. We engaged in several unique experiences including falconry. The trip was like stepping into another world. We booked a longer stay the week we got home and plan to return in a few months. This was a total departure from everyday worries and routines. Ashford is a special place. It is beautiful, luxurious, and unique. This trip was worth every penny.

Our time at Ashford Castle was unforgettable. The attention to detail was unlike any hotel experience we have had before. The staff were the star of the weekend, specifically the consistency and cohesiveness of service provided by everyone throughout the estate. Everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and showed commitment to our unique experience. The rooms are perfectly kept and charming, always with the customer's needs in mind (i.e., towel warmer, heated bathroom floors, slippers, evening chocolates). The estate's location is pristine. Food was locally sourced and always of the highest quality. Take advantage of the several estate experiences that they offer. We reserved the falconry experience and went on morning walks with the estate hounds, and we wished we had booked more! This will be a stay you won't forget.

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay in Ashford Castle recently and had a really wonderful time. It is expensive but worth every cent. From checkin to departure we were treated like royalty but in a very friendly non obsequious way. Our accommodation in the Boathouse was beautiful, very private, and no detail was spared to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Plenty of thoughtful gestures which were much appreciated. Lots of very enjoyable activities including the spa (which was excellent) the boat tour, clay pigeon shooting, lovely walks through the grounds. We had a ball. Would highly recommend a stay there particularly for a special occasion.

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
