A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

This place is simply incredible. Absolutely the most luxurious stay I’ve had in all my travels. Everything here was just perfect; the food, drinks, experiences, and overall atmosphere of the castle were second to none. If you can afford it; stay here at least 3 nights and do the Falconry Hawk Walk.

While traveling Ireland we had the pleasure of spending two days at AC. I wish I had planned more. The staff is charming and exceptional. The grounds and capital are exceptional. The interior decor is beautiful Multiple activities including falconry are available The town of Cong is a short walk away and is where the movie was filmed Highly highly recommended Slainte!

We would like to thank you for our wonderful visit last weekend. You were all so welcoming, warm and kind and you made mum’s 80th birthday celebration so special too. The whole team, those that greeted us at the gate and front door, to every single person that looked after us in the hotel were amazing,! Ashford Castle is truly fabulous, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have stayed and hope that we can return one day.

The epitome of luxury and service! We stayed at this amazing castle for our last night in Ireland. So glad we ended here, otherwise nothing else would have measured up! While there we enjoyed a fantastic dinner in The Dungeon with excellent wait staff that we enjoyed getting to know, an amazing Hawk Walk that was beyond our expectations, fantastic drinks at the bar, a morning walk with the Wolfhounds in the pouring rain (they even provided rain gear!) and amazing rooms. If you can, stay here and make sure you have plenty of time to explore the grounds and services they provide.

We had a complaint following a stay at the lodge. Ashford castle management took this complaint seriously and remedied the problem. So we returned to Ashford castle last month and enjoyed it thoroughly. The Castle is full of antiques and this lends hugely to the timeless atmosphere. Deirdre was very attentive in a genuine manner. The breakfasts were delicious. I am now making porridge based on water and cream with fruit infused with Jameson on a regular basis! Yes, Ashford is a magical place and very spiritually restful. A tip for visitors, I think you can stay at the lodge but only have access to the castle if you have a booking for dinner in the castle. Dinner in the dungeon is less formal than the George dining rooms. I thought it was equally atmospheric in the Dungeon. Wine is where most of the profit is made but it is worth it as one doesn’t want to be fine dining and drinking plonk! It’s very difficult to get to cross country following google maps. Best get to the N17 instead of going town to town. Following google maps added almost an hour to our journey time.

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
