A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

Ashford Castle was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. This is a private luxury hotel that maximizes the guest experience. As a guest you are made to feel extremely welcomed and important. There are an expansive list of services from Falconry, Golf, Cruises, Sporting Clays, Fishing, Spa and others. We wish we had stayed longer to fully enjoy life at the Castle. This should be on your bucket list when visiting Ireland.

Wow. So over the top in every aspect we can hardly contain our enthusiasm. Biggest regret? We didn’t stay longer. Best tip? Book your dining reservations early. The restaurants fill up fast.

All I can say is…EXCEPTIONAL! To describe it as magical is an understatement. From the decor, the history, the accommodations to the incredible staff. I can’t imagine staying anywhere more perfect in every way.

Four of us visited Ashford Castle before my brother and sister in law returned to Australia. The afternoon tea was truly scrumptious and amazing. my daughter was remembered from a previous visit. The gentleman who took care of us was very attentive. A wonderful experience, truly deserving of five stars.

For $3000/night, when the coffee bar is refreshed, I’d hope that the milk/cream would be replaced also. Spa: we called -no availability, waitlisted. No problem, except that there was no mention of the massages available at the Lodge-(??!!) which we did get and were very good. But- dinner at Wilde’s at the Lodge- food was very good but our sides came out so long after our entree’s that I thought the waiter was bringing out dessert. Do not miss the falconry- that was EXCELLENT, and Jeff from Texas was great.

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
