A thirteenth century castle buried deep in a wooded parkland sounds like the setting for a fairy tale, but really it is home to the exclusive Ashford Castle. Standing impressively on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, Ireland, Ashford Castle is a monument to a fascinating and timeless history. Once the Guinness Family estate, the Castle has since opened its doors as an exclusive luxury hotel in 1939. Where else could one spend the morning learning how to fly a hawk at the School of Falconry, escape to the Walled Garden for a romantic picnic, and relax in the afternoon with a soothing massage at the spa? Filled with family heirlooms, rich furnishings and priceless objets dâ€(TM)art, Ashford presents the chance to enjoy the splendor of a bygone era in comfort and style.

Our multi-generational family trip to Ireland included a memorable three night stay at the Ashford Castle. This was a return visit for the grandparents and the first for daughter and family including two granddaughters. The room arrangements were outstanding and perfect for our two families. The Ashford Castle staff are warm, welcoming, friendly, and most helpful. We had family breakfasts all three mornings at the same lovely window table in the George V dining room. We also dined at all three restaurants and enjoyed each. The afternoon tea was a great experience for us and we would highly recommend it. Outdoor recreational activities should be reserved early and well in advance of a visit to insure you get what you want as on-the-spot reservations upon arrival can be difficult to schedule.

This must rate as one of my personal highlights in terms of accomodation. The location is superb with wonderful acres of carefully manicured gardens. The effort taken to maintain the gardens is absolutely amazing. The castle abounds with high quality eating facilities. The breakfast is a particular highlight that we looked forward to. All the staff with no exception were most helpful and friendly. Like many Irish people, they love a craic. I would like to single out Eleanor, in the King George restaurant for her smile and friendly attitude. The accomodation is most inviting and warm. You can’t help falling in love with the presentation. Like many travellers we have been lucky to visit many special places, but very few can combine excellence in the rooms, eating facilities and attractive outdoors.definitely worth a revisit. First rate experience. Service was impeccable. Lakefront room in Castle had incredible views and a great bathroom. Highly recommend for a 5 star experience like no other.

We took our family of 8 here for several nights while touring around the Republic. Two grandparents, daughter & spouse, two teens, two 10-year olds. WOW!! Fantastic hotel and grounds, lots to do, great service, good food - it had it all. We picnic'd, experienced falconing, clay shooting, swimming, and overall relaxing. Staff easily knew how to handle guests of all ages. Typical Irish March weather (liquid sunshine) didn't stop us from doing anything. Yes, it's expensive, but we planned for it, and it topped off a great two week visit to the "Old Sod"!

This is one of the finest properties we have ever visited. It is a beautiful castle, but it is also a world class hotel in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The grounds are large and bikes are available for guests, the fishing on the river and the lake are first rate, and the service is unmatched. We have stayed twice and can't wait to go back again.
