Stayed for 4 nights in Tree House Villa. Very well appointed. Clean. Huge 4 poster bed. Lovely bathroom with wet room shower. Very good air conditioning. Tea, coffee facilities. Mini bar with complimentary beer, soft drinks. There is also wine and Champagne for a charge. Amazing wrap around veranda up in the tree tops. Fabulous plunge pool, nice and clean. No wifi in the room but you can get a wifi myfi hotspot for the room that sort of works. The Tree House Villa is quite a hike from the beach but the staff are always on hand with buggies to give you a lift up or down to the beach and restaurant etc. They are quick and plentiful. The main restaurant, the Long House is the place for all the meals. The other restaurant, the Pantai Grill is currently being re-built. The plans for it sound amazing when it's finished. (Not sure when) For those worried about the rebuilding works going on there is absolutely no need to be. The area is all screened off with minimum noise well away from the main area. The Long House provides the very extensive breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. Mention in other reviews of the food being expensive, we spent about £150 a day on lunch and dinner including wine. The wine can be expensive. The cheapest was about £40 a bottle. The very extensive wine list needs to be revamped. Almost every bottle we ordered wasn't available. Tomas the General Manager assured us this was being worked on. . The pool area is out of this world. It is the best infinity pool I have ever used in my life. Lots of chairs, loungers and reasonable wifi here and back at the Long House. It would be nice to have waiter service around the pool. We had to track down a member of staff if we wanted a drink or snack, then would take quite a while to arrive. The beach was fantastic. Beautiful white sand sloping gently. Warm water. No rubbish in sight. I understand they do have issues with it now and then by the staff go all out to remove it asap. The sand-flys were not an issue for us. I wasn't bitten once in Bunga Raya. Activities - we had a go at snorkelling, kayaking and the canopy walk, all gratis and very good. We also had a go on the Zip wire for a small charge if you fancy some excitement. Another highlight for us was the wildlife. We saw Hornbill birds close to our room, and seeing them soar through the trees is a sight to behold. There were Macaque monkeys playing close by. The bearded pigs are good fun. The monitor lizards are amazing. The sealife is pretty good. Lots of fish close to the pier area with some coral. The staff at Bunga Raya lead by Tomas are absolutely amazing, they can't do enough for you and it's always with a lovely smile.

I spent 5 days with my wife for our honeymoon. At the beginning we had some problems, but the Managers Mr. Thomas and Mr. Andrea fixed everything and gave us the opportunity to enjoy at the best our time. Both of them and all the staff are so nice and they care of us like if we were at home. Very Nice and professional people! The surronding is beautiful: Jungle, beach and sea... The Villas are very comfortable and well furnished with a wonderful view. The SPA wonderful! a big Thank to Mrs Tina..very good therapist! even the food is very good. Something negative...just the waste on the beach brought by the current when the wind is in the resort direction but it is not their fault...but of local people from the city who dont care about their environment..Nevertheless, the resort cleans every day the beach! Be carefull to the sandflyes...the resort provides a nice natural oil to protect from them but just in case bring with you an antistaminic One suggestion .. a dedicated cocktailbar would be appreciated... see you soon again! Thank you so much for everything!!!

I spent five nights with my family during the CNY break 2017. The resort itself is great and well equipped. There was a bit of a problem with trash coming in from the ocean, but this is not the resorts fault and they dealt with it right away. What lead me to deduct two starts are the following points: Housekeeping was not up to the task. Cleaning and replenishment was not properly done. Also personal items were carelessly moved. Smoking was possible and done anywhere. I am not sure whether smoking was prohibited in certain areas, but if it was, it was certainly not enforced and that included eating areas. This is a big minus in my book in particular since we were traveling with children. Breakfast was very limited in choice and when certain items were empty it took a lot of asking to have them replenished. Getting coffee was also a task which tested my patience to its limit. I think all of the above is easy to address and once done, it would get a five star rating.

We stayed at Bunga Raya for 6 nights and it was wonderful, a perfect and relaxed end to our adventure Borneo Honeymoon. The staff were all absolutely wonderful and so sweet, and any problems that we had were rectified effectively. We actually didn't find sandflies a problem at all, we found if you put roll on deets on your self, all pests were kept away! This also kept all leeches away during our jungle treks in Danum Valley- at least we think that's what did the trick! We did spot some rubbish on the beach which increased when it rained heavily, but I think that's more down to location as it all comes in from KK. This no way spoiled our stay anyway as the beach was amazing and was so secluded. My best beach ever! Breakfast was incredible and a huge selection, easily our best meal of the day! The food was quite overpriced (around London prices) but they have something for everyone and generally the portions were large. We expected this after reading reviews so it was no shock, and there's still the option to dine somewhere in KK. Thank you Bunga Raya for making our honeymoon stay incredible!

Am writing this review with 'mixed feelings', positive and negative, hence why I ended up giving a 3* grade (the average of 1 and 5). We very much looked forward to staying at the resort (3 nights - Aug 2 thru Aug 5). Upon arrival we were welcomed with drinks and transferred to our lovely villa (deluxe). The resort is superbly located, in a secluded bay with private beach; excellent snorkling and other water activities possibilities. The villa was perfect: spacious, with all amenities within hand reach. Minibar drinks are complimentary and transport to / from lobby area is conveniently organized. The beach is lovely, except for the sand flies (thanks mother Nature) - and they were there. The main restaurant's food is very good - the food at the other (beach) restaurant (Pandai Grill) was of less quality. Staff were very friendly and helpful. So far for the positive, now the negative. The resort's lobby area was undergoing renovation / expansion. As the lobby is situated around the pool area, we had to deal with the noise of construction works during our entire stay. There was no escaping, since relaxing on the beach was not an option because of the sand flies (repellent was provided for free, but couldn't prevent that we were bitten - not once, but tens of times). Constructions works apparently had to be ready by July 31, but weren't. On top of the works even continued during our last evening, so our dinner was basically spoiled by the continuous noises of construction. We fully realize and appreciate that upgrading needs to be done once in a while, but paying a 5 star price for what we've experienced is simply not ok. We spoke to the general manager about it. He told us that all tour operators in the area were informed about the construction works; ours unfortunately wasn't..... He also told us that new construction works will commence early September (when the current Pandai Grill restaurant will be closed and a new restaurant area will be constructed). So please bear in mind that new construction works will commence (and probably last a good 6 months). For those of you loving wine: the resort's wine list is impressive, especially when you realize that you're basically in 'the middle of nowhere' - there's even a wine cellar, that can be visited upon appointment. WIFI was poor - hardly accessible in the villa and with some effort in the lobby area. Would we go back - maybe, but then after the second round of construction works....
