The Villa Casa Casuarina in Miami Beach, Florida
The Villa Casa Casuarina, the former home of Gianni Versace, has been transformed into an elegant Miami Beach retreat. Built in 1930, the mansion has the designer's touch throughout, and is a mix of Spanish and Italian influences coupled with opulent details. The Ocean Drive manor-turned-boutique-hotel features just 10 suites showcasing rich and vibrant hues with only the finest of furnishings displayed. Lounge by the legendary mosaic pool or slip behind the curtain of a luxury beachfront cabana. Sunset cocktails are best enjoyed in the Observatory lounge overlooking the glistening Atlantic Ocean. Casa Casuarina also features a trio of sultry lounges including one for cigar aficionados. Guests can enjoy culinary specialties atop the upper terrace with views of the tropical gardens. The acclaimed fine dining establishment Loftin's 1116 Ocean, with its detailed stone mosaic, adds an element of drama to your meals. It is easy to envision the likes of Madonna or Elton John supping here during Versace's celebrated reign.
Miami's zesty vibe can be credited to its diverse districts, including South Beach - better known as "SoBe" - where the buildings are coated in pastel hues. The area is flanked with trendy nightclubs, stylish shops and restaurants where locals pose in high fashion style as they eat. The Art Deco District is another mesmerizing and hip area with buildings preserved to look much the way they did back in their heyday. When the sun goes down in Miami that is when things tend to heat up with a party lasting until the wee hours of the morning.

We came here to admire the stunning grounds and come for dessert. *Note: you may want to think twice before wearing ripped jeans here because they won't let you in without them. The dessert was pretty good and the grounds were nice as expected.

Stunning building as you might imagine from the guy who did an amazing job designing it. The problem is the staff and any sense of providing a service. The hotel management clearly visited the local community college and rounded up a group of 18 year olds who have no idea what they want to do in life. We checked in and were pointed to our 2nd floor room with no assistance offered. Barely able to get a cup of coffee from room service and they had never heard of a croissant!! So a big disappointment given the cost of the room, but an experience just to spend a night there. We'll bring sandwiches if we ever decide to return.
We decided to visit last night for our honeymoon treat, such a beautiful building and the setting was romantic and so lovely! However the staff really let this place down, and we left feeling so disappointed. We paid our bill at the end and there is a 20% service charge already added onto the the bill, we then waited and waited for our change which was way more than 20% anyway and our waiter didn't bring it over, we had to ask for our change when our disgruntled waiter returned with our money and said he assumed we'd have left it as a tip! We watched many waiters throughout our meal take numerous photos of couples together and asked our waiter if he'd take one for us and he refused. He said it was company policy not to take photos! We questioned the fact that others had taken pictures and he said he had been there the longest and that was policy! We would have left him a tip on top of his 20% that was already added to the service charge but felt so disappointed we didn't even go to the bar for a drink (which was our original plan) we decided to head somewhere that made us feel welcome! Such a shame because this place could have been great!

Make reservations for lunch or dinner so you can experience the opulence of an incredible fashion icon's creative genius. Easy to find and locals will point you in the right direction. Make sure you don't miss his pool. If you are into fashion I recommend you visit and see Versace's mansion. Thanks to his family for allowing the public access.
