Reviews for The K Club

Not great!

My wife and I had booked two nights in the K Club to celebrate our anniversary, and were so looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately it did not meet our ecpectations. The main Barton Grill restaurant was undergoing an upgrade and was out of service. The lobby and public areas of the hotel were full of workmen coming and going, moving kitchen equipment in and out through the main hotel entrance, and this was accompanied by a lot of noise and multiple vans and lorries clogging up the area outside the hotel entrance. Turning grass verges into muck. It most definitely was not what one would expect on a two night luxury stay at a 5 star resort hotel. On more than one occasion one could neither go out or in as the workmen manouevered large items in the front door. Added to that, half of the public areas off the lobby to the left had been designated as private for exclusive use of the Irish Rugby team, meaning that only the main lobby and two other very small rooms were available for the use of all the other paying guests. We had stayed at Carton house many times before, and often were there at the same time as the Ireland team, but were never restricted to only certain areas of the hotel. We dined at the two other restaurants on the K Club grounds; South and The Palmer, and whereas the food was very good, I would have preferred to not have to use a shuttle bus to and from a hotel restaurant. We also used the Spa facilities. Not good!. The pool was cold, the jacuzzi was out of action for cleaning, hoses across the floor around the pool, one small tiny out door hot tub. And the 'tiny' steam rooms are inside the mens and ladies changing rooms, which means my wife and I could not use the steam room together. I have never seen such a stupid arrangement as this at any other hotel spa facility. On the positive side, all of the staff were exceptionally good and helpful. The hotel interiors are beautiful and we really loved our room. On the whole, my wife and I still had an enjoyable stay. We loved the grounds and the walking trails, the food and service was very good, but it is unfortunate that the things I mention took away somewhat from what should otherwise have been a trip filled with only very special memories.

Disappointing

Went away on our first night with our son to the K Club. We were very excited & had heard amazing things about the K Club. Unfortunately it did not meet our standards that one would expect from a 5 star hotel. When we were shown to our room, we noted the cot for our son that had been requested in advance had a rip in the netting, when travelling with a baby you already have to bring so many different items, so we were depending on the hotel to provide a cot in perfect condition as we were not bringing our own. We ordered room service for dinner & the food was nice but side portions of veg & chips were very small for the price we paid. We also ordered a soft drink that did not arrive. We then went down for breakfast the next morning which we were excited for, however due to renovations - there was no a la carte menu, just a buffet - which is difficult to navigate with a buggy. We understand renovations need to be carried out but we wished the hotel had fully informed of us this prior our stay when they rang to confirm the booking as we would have chose to stay at a time when the a la carte menu was on. The breakfast was also of poor quality. I addressed issues directly with the hotel as we felt so disappointed with the whole experience, this was met with a half hearted response and an offer to come back and pay to stay again and we would be looked after. We wanted to be looked after on our first visit after spending a large sum of money.

Over sold under delivered!

Having been to the K Club before, we were looking forward to a 5 Star Hotel with 5 star service. Sadly it was mediocre. Check in was late, the room hadn’t been fully cleaned, the pool area is dated and underwhelming. Overall not what we hoped for. Food was excellent and the room was lovely, but let down by lack of attention to detail.

Magnificent

The hotel surroundings are absolutely magnificent. The hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas. The service perfect from check in. Staff friendly and professional. The room was spacious and with great views. The bed was very comfortable. Spacious and nicely decorated bathroom. Everywhere is immaculate. The food was delicious with wide range of selection.
