The hotel is like a small village located on the fantastic grounds of the Ferregamo family's villa. The rooms and suites are located in a charming medieval village, where the facades have been kept, while the rooms are completely updated. Surrounded by vineyards, sunflower fields, beautiful private grounds and an amazing garden, this is one of the most beautiful hotels I've visited. Pools are a short walk away - as are restaurants (three), gym, tennis courrts and the stables. The reception and the soccer field is a bit further, but there are small golf cars to take you around the hotel. The food in the two main restaurants are "fine dining" and there's a small caf├ę for lunch. Being there with kids, the experience is that it's all a bit too fine and quiet, both in the restaurants and by the pools. The kids' menu options are limited, there are not toys, playroom, games or drawing stuff. The place is mostly targeted at couples. The service was generally good (reception, guest services), but the restuarants and the caf├ę suffered from lack of a real service concept. There was a large gap between thye good waiters and the not so good. There were two-three really good, and the rest seemed very inexperienced and a few even rude.

We recently spent a week at Il Borro, staying at Villa Casetta one of the separate 3 bedroom villas that are part of the estate. The Villa is located 3 minutes by car from the main hotel (you do need a car), with all the facilities and services of the hotel available. An enormous breakfast was delivered every morning and set up for us. There was so much food that we had plenty of left overs for lunch by our pool! House keeping came each day and serviced the villa as well. The villa is fully furnished in the style of a Tuscan farm house / villa, very comfortable beds and good linens. Each room had it's own ensuite with separate bath and the house was fully air-conditioned. There was also a washing machine and fully set up kitchen / fridge / dishwasher. The private pool was fabulous and essential in the summer heat! We had dinner a couple of times at Il Borro, the pizza night outside by the main pool was our favourite. We also had lunch at the cafe which had really good salads. Our children had horse riding lessons at Il Borro (they've never ridden) and loved it. Highly recommend the horse riding as the horses were all in great condition & very easy to ride. Il Borro is a medieval village which is definitely worth walking around and looking at (only takes 1 hr max). I'm not sure about staying in the hotel rooms as we didn't see those, but can most definitely recommend Villa Casetta. Would also say that the staff are amongst the best we came across in Europe. All tremendously professional, friendly, engaging and helpful. We didn't meet one staff member who was anything less than sensational.

We were guests for a wedding at Il Borro and had the most fantastic time there for three days. It is difficult to describe how beautiful the grounds are, how well appointed and unique the rooms are and terrific the service levels are. We stayed in the little village with a charming square, a few shops, and a beautiful pool. There are several pools around the property. The wedding dinners leading up to the ceremony and the reception were progressively spectacular with beautiful settings and delicious food. All the guests I spoke to could not say enough good things about their stay including the bride, groom and their respective families. It too bad this scale only goes from 1 to 5, because this place is a 6.

The Ferragamo family takes a lot of pride in this venture. From my understanding they are very hands on and this is apparent in many different ways. The staff was all exceptional and very friendly. Most importantly, they were all very happy to be there and to be employed at Il Borro. We stayed for a couple days and loved it. Very relaxing and beautiful. My wife and I took gorgeous pictures all over the grounds. We also had some amazing activities which included horse back riding, wine tasting, and cooking classes. Not sure what else I can say about this place but it's beautiful, great staff, good food, relaxing and most importantly the owners take a lot of pride in the property. They come their often themselves and bring their families as well. I highly recommend going.
