The Ferragamo family takes a lot of pride in this venture. From my understanding they are very hands on and this is apparent in many different ways. The staff was all exceptional and very friendly. Most importantly, they were all very happy to be there and to be employed at Il Borro. We stayed for a couple days and loved it. Very relaxing and beautiful. My wife and I took gorgeous pictures all over the grounds. We also had some amazing activities which included horse back riding, wine tasting, and cooking classes. Not sure what else I can say about this place but it's beautiful, great staff, good food, relaxing and most importantly the owners take a lot of pride in the property. They come their often themselves and bring their families as well. I highly recommend going.

Perfection is the best way to describe Il Borro. We loved every aspect of our stay. Truly an authentic Tuscan setting dripping with luxury in every aspect. The food experience is worthy of a Michelin star. Cheers!

This hotel was like a fairy tale. Beautiful medieval village with a handful of guests in a setting that defies description . Our party of 4 adults toured Italy for 2 weeks and stayed at this hotel for only two days. We stayed at 4 other hotels in Florence and Rome , all 5 star but this place was hands down the highlight of our trip. Two gorgeous pools , one of which we had all to ourselves each night , a huge apartment in a medieval village , tastefully renovated , morning horseback riding in the Tuscan countryside , it doesn't get any better. The food was incredible .The staff and management have no equal . Friendly , professional , fluent in English and everyone went out of their way to make everyone in our group feel at home. The spa was also first class .If you do go I would highly recommend the horseback riding. Ridiculously inexpensive with a great , entertaining instructor and gorgeous animals. And as a final note this place was by far the best value of anything we experienced in Italy. My only suggestion would be to somehow revise their website to more accurately relay how wonderful this property really is.

Where to start? Our stay at Il Borro was memorable from at least two points of view: First of all, we were there as part of a 3-day wedding party -- I gather Il Borro is very popular for weddings, and I can certainly see why. Every evening, there were cocktails on the lawn, fabulous dinners under the stars, multiple bands and orchestras -- even, one night, a fireworks display. There are enough different locations on the grounds that no two events occurred in the same place! During the day -- between tennis, swimming in/ lounging by one of the (3? 4?) pools, having a spa treatment -- there was no shortage of things to do. In fact, treating Il Borro as a base from which to visit nearby Tuscan towns is really (as others have suggested) a bit of a waste: If you're staying there, you'll really want to STAY there -- take advantage of the grounds and facilities, of your gorgeous room, of the stunning views, of the scent of the flowers -- as much as possible while you can. It's perfect as a one- or two-night respite from an otherwise busy driving tour of Tuscany and Umbria. As far as I could tell, all the rooms -- in "the village" (Il Borgo, with a "g") at least -- are different: They are, after all, fitted into lovingly-renovated old buildings up and down a cobbled "main street" that's barely wide enough for a golf cart. In fact, one of the charms of staying in Il Borgo with a group (like a wedding party) is that you're constantly bumping into friends and relatives as you wander about the village. For a day (or three) you're an Italian villager! A very pampered one. As one would expect -- given the Ferragamo connection -- everything has been done to a very high standard and is beautifully maintained: I can't imagine how large a staff Il Borro has, but it must be over 100. (I had been concerned about being able to get around such a large, and hilly, estate, but if you don't want to just wander there is always a staff-member happy to drive you wherever you want to go, in either a van, car or electric cart.) Sheets, towels, bathroom amenities are all top-drawer. The second way in which our stay was "memorable" came from the fact that -- through my own inattention -- I fell on my first day there, and injured a finger badly enough that it was clear I would need stitches. This was when the excellence and intelligence of the staff, and their level of service and dedication, really came into play. First-aid was wisely administered on the spot (by two members of the cleaning staff!) ... Il Borro management insisted on calling for an ambulance (though I would have been happy just to take a taxi to the nearest hospital) ... and also sent an English-speaking staffer to stay with me for the five hours or so it took for the necessary x-rays, surgical repairs, etc. The hospital staff were terrific, but what helped immensely was that I had a concerned, fluent Italian-speaker to translate between me and the ER team. The result? I now have an interesting scar and some funny stories with which to enliven my Italian-holiday report. Knowing that I'd missed the evening meal by the time I got back from the hospital, Il Borro's team even thought to lay on a hearty meal (with much-needed beer) waiting in our room on my return. Bottom line: I can't imagine a more beautiful place to visit and stay, nor can I speak highly enough of Il Borro's service -- in good times and in bad.
