We needed a quiet weekend. This restored medieval village certainly gave us peace and quiet. We caught the train to Arezzo from Firenze then after a look around Arezzo, took a taxi to il Borro. Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was spacious and quiet with all amenities. We took a wine tour but we are not big wine drinkers, I had a great massage then on our way to dinner we visited the artisan workshops. Dinner in the Bistro was good quality and good service. The resort is quiet and we slept very comfortably in the beautiful bed. Great shower in the expansive bathroom. Breakfast was great with maximum choice to meet all needs. We set off for a long walk through San Augustino Valdarno before ordering a taxi at around 1pm to go back to Arezzo. Had lunch in town then took the train back to Florence well rested.

Preparing for the wedding of our daughter we both had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main restaurants of il Borro an hour drive from Florence. What a quality of both local Tuscan and Italian food. One word: outstanding

Everything at Il Borro was perfect. The estate is beautiful and the medieval village is truly unique. The pictures can't really show the true beauty of the place. The room was very spacious. We loved the two swimming pools (especially the one hidden in the forest). The staff was very friendly and helpfull. You can eat a light lunch at the poolside which always was delicious and in a very reasonnable price range. We also enjoyed the restaurant downstairs and especially the delicious breakfast. A few points of improvement: It would be nice if the restaurant downstairs/breakfast could be held with a terrace, especially in the hot summer mornings/evenings. Also we noticed that the bread somehow lacks a bit of salt, but this seemed to be the case in whole Italy. So not very important critics :-) I would definitely book this hotel again for the lovely estate, the friendly staff and the great range of activities (horse riding, hiking, biking, truffle hunting etc... and lots to visit in this region). Already looking forward to a bigger golfcourse in the future!

What a magical place and what stellar service ! Just beautifully appointed rooms - took us back to an era of decadent luxury ! The views from each of the exquisite room was to say simply spectacular with the cacophony of birds early in the morning awaking you to a gorgeous dawn ! The group cooking we did together was the highlight of women bonding over great food and wine ! Just simply delightful !! If in the area a must visit place

Amazing location but a bit hit & miss. Welcome disgraceful, just giggly receptionists who went thro' motions having private joke, noo real welcome enquiry about how we got there offer of reviving drink or food. Given my obvious limited walking ability no sensible offer of transport to village until we asked, generally very poor . ON booking no enquiry as to mobility and then reassurance about helpful transport to village. It was a shock to find out how spread out the facilities are. Room lovely but cold/damp being old. No heationg- Concierge said too early to turn on and not possible to heat individual rooms as whole village or nothing. Wood offered for open fire to heat sitting room but bathroom & bedroom chilly, not very flexinble despite unusually cold September. Surely Guests comfort comes first?Setting magnificent, staff ( except receptionists) brilliant, food excellent in Vin Cafe and Bistro. We got the impression that everyone had been trained in hard sell, which is a bit OTT when you want just to relax. Who wants to be charged to tour a cellar/winery when such gorgeous countryside and nearby towns are available? Overall it is sterile and a bit like Butlins for the wealthy- no real charm/warmth v. commercial. Sad.
