Best of Paris' Hidden Gems -- Get Stuck in the Sewers

Best of Paris' Hidden Gems -- Get Stuck in the Sewers
Destination(s): Paris

If you want off the beaten path -- then you have to get off it and if you are in Paris that means staying out of the center of the snail (the snail is a visual shortcut to keeping the arrondissements straight) which in practice means, avoid any of the arrondissments with the big tourists sites like St. Germain, the Eiffel Tower the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe and more specifically, stay out of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th arrondissements and focus on the others (disclaimer: there are many exceptions to this rule, even on this list). Here is a smattering of things to do, places to eat, etc., that the typical tourist might miss on his or her stint in Paris. Cinema lover? Don't miss the Cinéma des Cineastes at Place de Clichy. Want a nice lunch far from the maddening crowds? Go to the Reflectoire, the place where local bo-bos go for lunch in the 11th. Looking for a nice stroll somewhere where you can't see Notre Dame for miles? Try the Canal d'Ourcq. Fed up with classical works of stella genius? Visit the Musée des Egouts --- aka the sewer museum... this place will tell you the real story of Paris -- the one that none of your friends have ever heard. read more about Best of Paris' Hidden Gems -- Get Stuck in the Sewers... Top 10 Restaurants in France

Top 10 Restaurants in France
Destination(s): Paris

French cuisine is famous all over the world and the best restaurants from all continents pride themselves with the refined French influences they use in their menus. Given all of this, among the few things that can beat the food itself when you're having dinner in France are the setting, the location and the service. Wonderful locally sourced ingredients and inventive chefs work to provide the best meals for their hungry and pretentious diners, while other staff handles the atmosphere and the cultural resonance of the venues. One of the best places in Cannes is Le Festival, where posters of movie stars and sex idols accompany your elegant dinner, while Bordeaux boasts one of the first restaurants in France to have ever gotten a Michelin star (back in 1933!), Le Chapon Fin. For the Paris visitor that is indeed more interested in the view than in the food when he goes out for dinner, our best recommendation is Café Marly, an expensive restaurant that overlooks the Louvre pyramid. read more about Top 10 Restaurants in France... Top 10 Fun Restaurants in France

Top 10 Fun Restaurants in France
Destination(s): Paris

Funny enough, the most entertaining restaurants in France have very little to do with the local culture and bring all sorts of international influences to the country. So when you make sure you've had your fair share of high class French cuisine, you could turn your attention to these great places with strong characters and excellent food.

Is it a bar? Is it a pub? It's Pub Charly's Bar, a great place for a little bit of everything, from DJ music to sushi and tapas, all in a young and casual atmosphere. The full English experience with darts, beers and live music is to be found at The Cambridge Arms, while the Brazilian Sambahia will even treat you with some after dinner samba. However, if you are looking for a more characteristic French atmosphere, check out the hip Le Mably, a favorite among the best of the local crowds. read more about Top 10 Fun Restaurants in France... Top 10 Bars and Clubs in France
Destination(s): Paris

France really has something for everyone when it comes to bars and clubs, which range from small, decade-old cafes in the bohemian quarters of Paris, to hip and contemporary Lyon clubs and good old Irish pubs that are very successful all over the country. If your budget allows it, you should definitely have a go at one of the clubs in Cannes, with the best DJs and a very posh crowd to take you through the night. One of the best places in Bordeaux is the Spanish Bodega Bodega, which comes with very original decor and great tapas and Sangria - a perfect alternative if you get tired of the local wines or the great Guinness they serve at Le Connemara. A cool Parisian crowd of young artists and hipsters gathers every weekend at the jazzy Caveau de la Huchette, while locals and tourists alike fancy the great atmosphere at Lyon's Q-Boat. read more about Top 10 Bars and Clubs in France...
