Koke'e State Park
Just follow highway 550 from Waimea or 552 from Kekaha straight up the mountain to visit majestic Koke`e State Park. Winding along Wiamea Canyon ("The Grand Canyon of the Pacific") on their journey, visitors can stop along the way and witness the breathtaking beauty of one of Kauai's true gems. Lookouts and picnic areas boast awesome waterfalls and heavenly views that make for great photo opportunities. Once you arrive at the main lodge, make sure to grab snacks, a map and plenty of fluids if you plan on hiking. The trails found in Koke`e range from easy to oh-my-god, so be sure and check in with the museum before doing any hiking. The historic Koke`e Museum boasts a comprehensive history of the entire area, and you can ask the knowledgeable staff for recommendations on picnic areas, hikes and trails.
