If you're just passing through and only have one day on Oahu, it goes without saying that you must spend it in Waikiki. You can grab breakfast a Cheeseburger in Paradise, where all of the servers wear grass skirts (even the guys). Then head over to Diamond State Park and work off those pancakes with a hike to the top. Work your way back down and cool off in the water on the world famous Waikiki beach and take in a surf lesson while you're at it. Lunch at Duke's on the beach is a must, and then you can do some serious shopping along Kalakaua Ave, with the hundreds of luxury boutiques, galleries and gift shops. Wind down your day at The Royal Hawaiian where you can enjoy a glass of pink champagne at the pink hotel. Take in the sunset and a cocktail from the Mai Tai Bar right there on the sand. If you love art, then you will be pleasantly surprised with your options when you visit Oahu. Chinatown has had a major rejuvenation in the last several years, and some great galleries and restaurants have opened up. On your way downtown, stop by the Nohea gallery in the Ward area, where you can enjoy the works of hundreds of local artists. It's a gallery and gifts shop with plenty of affordable pieces. Then head to Chinatown and pick up a walking map of the galleries. Indigo is a fantastic place to have a bite or a martini in the area. Most people think of Oahu as the concrete jungle, but there is plenty of nature to be had while you are here. If you�re looking for a little exercise, you can begin your day with a hike to the top of Diamond Head. Then hop in your car and drive a few miles to the Manoa cliff trail, which will take you on another short hike to the spectacular Manoa Falls. Before you head back down to the beach, check out the Harold Lyon Arboretum. The next day you can let Oahu Nature Tours do all of the work for you. They will drive you around in an air-conditioned van on a tour of your choice. Finally, there are some spectacular botanical gardens on the island. So on the last day, be sure to see Foster�s and Koko head. They are two of the best on this side of the island. There are plenty of options to get you history fix while you are visiting Oahu. The obvious choice being Pearl Harbor is the number one attraction, which encompasses the Bowfin, the Arizona and the Missouri memorials. On your way back to town, you can stop by the punchbowl cemetery. Once you arrived back in Waikiki you can walk down to fort De Russy to the army museum. The next to days you can dedicate to Hawaiian history by visiting the historic buildings downtown and see how the royalty used to live. The following day spend some time at the Bishop Museum to get a more comprehensive understanding of Hawaii?s history. No one comes to the Garden Isle without a visit to the Grand Canyon of the pacific. In fact this is the view you are in for (on a clear day) at the end of the road. This scenic drive will take you most of the day, so start early (sunrise or before sunrise if your staying on the North Shore or anywhere North of Lihue). The best way to start this scenic journey day is with breakfast at the Kalaheo Coffee Co. Once your bellies are full and your fueled up, head straight up to Kokee State Park to enjoy the canyon views. Check out the lodge/museum for some lunch and a few souvenirs. After a day of hiking and sighting seeing head back down the hill where you can hit the beach, then grab dinner and a brew at the Waimea Brewing Company and crash out the Waimea plantation cottages if your too exhausted to drive back to the North Shore. read more about West Side Drive...
