Although Abano Terme is a jumble of spa hotels in an uninteresting landscape, I have found it a good spot from which to explore the cities of the Veneto, including Venice itself which is less than an hour away. The raison d'ĂŞtre for a stay here, however, is the warm spa water that is channeled into inviting indoor and outdoor hotel pools. In my view, the Abano Grand is the best of the hotels in town, and I was able to get an outstanding half pension rate for a four day February stay in a double room for single use. This is really a "grand" hotel -- with large plush lounges, extensive spa facilities, and old fashioned furnishings in the room. I loved the indoor-outdoor pool set at 33 degrees C., with lots of really soothing water jets. My room was large and very comfortable with a separate sitting area, good WiFi and a large TV with over 300 channels. Virtually everyone here takes the half pension plan and dinners are multi-course, with an extensive antipasto/salad bar that also had some outstanding hot dishes (bollito misto one night) and lots of sea food. In addition, there is a pasta course and a main course chosen from the menu, and a dessert buffet. The quality of my selections ranged from excellent to poor, but as there is so much to choose from, one can just skip the dishes that are not particularly good and still have a very very good meal overall. I was one of the very few single travelers here. The clientele seemed to be mostly Italian couples and families. There is candlelight on the tables, setting a rather formal atmosphere, so this is not really a casual place. Nevertheless, the servers were friendly enough and left me in peace to read and dine. The hotel has some outdoor parking spaces and good indoor garage that can be reached by hotel elevator. A very good experience here.

Grand Hotel Abano is a luxury chain hotel in Abano. The hotels in this area have pools that are fed from natural hot springs which is the main attraction of the town. We went to Abano for the day without doing much research and merely google searched for a top hotel to spend the day at the baths. The hotel is a luxury facility with Venice themed decor. It’s very expensive and I noted that the day rate can be north of 450 USD per day. The hotel charges 100 Euro per person to use their facilities for the day (pool, spa, gym) and they also provide you with a room in order to change into swim suits. Overall it was a unique experience, but I don’t think I will return as the price point was too high. Also, I noticed that many of the guests were Russian and there definitely weren’t many Italian guests. I felt that this detracted from the overall Terme experience. I am certain that there are more economic Terme venues that the Italians attend and I will have to do better research next time!

If I were rating the Staff I would give the Hotel 5 Star. Except for on pushy Waiter. But, because of hidden costs I lowered my rating to poor and a not recommend. In October, 2017, I rented a standard room, with breakfast, for 280 Euros ($330) per night. Then I notice they had a special rate of 242 Euros ($285) per night and my rate was reduced. The room with dinner is 320 Euros ($380) per night. My wife and I just flew in and arrived late and we asked about dinner in the Dining room. We were told we had to book all 5 nights with the Dining Package. Being tired we agreed to the higher rate. Thus my discounted room rate went back to rate card. BAIT AND SWITCH. Also, Diner starts with quality Serving Stations. But, then you have a limited Menu main course of average quality. Desert and Coffee. Then the added ripoff was breakfast. My wife and I like to sleep late and just have coffee in the morning. We usually don't make breakfast since the Hotel stops serving an 10 AM. Thus we ordered only coffee in the room. When we checked out the bill showed additional charges for full breakfast each day. Another BAIT AND SWITCH. It was early morning and the manager was not yet in, so we just left very unhappy.
