The Martha Washington Inn and Spa in Abingdon, Virginia
With its charming brick exterior, dormer windows, and white wooden balustrades, The Martha Washington Hotel & Spa – part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts – has the look and feel of an authentic colonial gem. Cradled by the folds of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, the hotel was built by a Virginia general in 1832 to serve as his private residence. Its collection of rooms and suites render one-of-a-kind spaces where traditional appointments meet modern amenities.
Meals can be enjoyed in one of two locations - a pub-like venue, Sisters, offers a casual setting and menu to match, while Martha's Market features cozy fireplaces, local art, and a selection of café fare. Enjoy

Reviews for The Martha Washington Inn and Spa
From the courteous young men who met us at the car and carried our luggage to the room and put it in the ample closet for us, to the charming desk clerk and gracious servers, our stay at the Martha was glorious! If you are looking for a place to recharge or if you are a foodie wanting not to be disappointed, you will love it here! The amenities are amazing as well--heated pool, tennis courts, lavish spa, gym, and even a multi-level miniature golf course for the kids or young at heart! The fact that it is right across from the Barter Theater is a wonderful addition to the delightful details about this authentic Southern Lady!! On a personal note, I left my pillows behind and they very graciously retrieved and got them to me!

An unexpected surprise after reading an AAA article regards "The Martha". We enjoy a B&B experiences and found this to exceed all expectations. A well managed property in all regards, room, food, beverages, amenities, spa, exercise room and ambiance. We will return; thanks to the Customer Focus of their staff and management. Chris, the General Manager, VP has assembled a remarkable team and responds to any need with professionalism and action. Kudos to all whom made our stay the relaxing time so needed to regain our footing during a challenging time. Thank you.

A group of us ladies decided to stay a weekend here and it was fantastic. The inn is quiet and charming. It has a lot of history and feels old. The beds are comfortable and the room is small but fine for two. Our room overlooked a garden with a fountain. The inn was quiet and peaceful at night. The staff had to be some of the friendliest staff of any hotel. It was a genuine joy and caring about the guest. Each member from the valet to restaurant staff were wonderful. The food was fantastic. I was not disappointed. The complimentary breakfast was a seated hot breakfast not a mediocre buffet. The theatres were right across the street and the creeper trail only a 10 minute walk. Enjoy the veranda along with the rockers and complimentary port wine. I will be here again. That is a fact.

I really love staying in these older, historic inns. The room was beautiful with a large 4 poster, comfortable king size bed. It has a bar and restaurant; breakfast was included, and one of the best I have had at an inclusive inn. The restaurant is closed Sunday night - as are a lot of restaurants in Abingdon. We made due nicely with appetizers and drinks. I am always amused at some of the generational differences in hotel/motel reviews. If you are a yuppie or an untamed millennial looking for a place to stay with a thousand strip plugs to plug in all your devices, perhaps this is not for you. But if you like an elegant but not pricey hotel, with a beautiful secret garden (with excellent jazz playing in the background) with cascading hot tubs in the back, you should love this place. That, and it is an easy walk to the Barter Theater(s)
The Grand Dame of Abingdon, directly across the street from the Barter Theater. Lovely front sitting porch, tasty dining room and tastefully appointed rooms. They also have many rooms available to sit and read inside. I love their gift shop as well.
