It comes upon you unawares off the main street to the Taj Mahal. An oasis of peace and calm and superb service, our room faced the view to the Taj Mahal, even on a misty morning a haunting view, though nobody should miss the best view of the Taj from across the river in the gardens. The gardens of the hotel and huge dark blue pool are unusual and the terraces are full of Bouganvillea. The Asian restaurant was superb, although they have two sittings which is very irritating as we don’t like to eat either at 6:30 or nine but right in the middle. However the chef gave us his recipe for superb quail dish, which we shall certainly try when we get home. The staff were charming throughout. This is almost certainly the best place to stay in Agra.

As most visitors, we booked this hotel mostly because of its prime location to Taj. Our two nights there were very pleasant. Like other Oberio properties, this place is grand and beautiful, a little bit old but very well maintained. The lobby is impressive with high dome, beautiful marble floor, large open space, colorful decorations and the view of Taj. Our room was at level 4 with balcony, enjoy sunset of Taj was truly unforgettable experience. The room was spacious and comfortable, nice bathroom as well, the only pity was drainage system didn’t work properly—but it’s forgivable as we were in a town without proper civil service system, and two young men came to clean it up was very apologetic and helpful. Rose paddles left in the bathtub at our first night by turn down service people was a lovely touch. Had all meals in the hotel, food was fantastic and service was attentive. Beautiful and comfortable pool area to relax. Indian dance performance on the roof top added authentic atmosphere. A couple of little shops with nice Indian garments on the side alley. We booked an early morning Taj visit, the hotel driver and guide were friendly and informative, and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Service was friendly and attentive, but can be more organized—mixed up restaurant bookings, issue with train ticket booking etc., but all these little things can be forgiven and forgotten as everyone was genuinely nice and helpful. It has been a very memorable stay.

I never ever give 5 stars to any hotel (there should always be room for improvement!) but this one is pretty close. Ideal location, great attentive service, very pleasant tranquil environment. Taj Mahal is visible from every window (there is a lot of smog, but it’s not the hotels fault). We booked with Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, and were upgraded to Robert Burns suite on the top floor. Gorgeous suite, views of Taj from everywhere - dining/living rooms, bedroom and master bathroom. The only thing I was not too happy about - there are a lot of pigeons around, and they sit on the terraces (this suite has 2 terraces). Housekeeping cleans the terraces from pigeons’ droppings and feathers twice a day (and upon request), but it was not sufficient and we ended up not using any of the terraces at all. It’s kind of sad, and I am sure the hotel is working on it. Meanwhile you can always enjoy a drink on the common terrace next to the bar. Other than that - great hotel and location and very attentive staff. I would not stay at any other place but this if I am ever back to Agra.

The location of this hotel is sublime with a magical view of the Taj and even tho it was to foggy to see it in the moon light it was sublime. The staff were incredible and super helpful and we loved our visit. On the less than superlative side the rooms seem rather small and unexceptional given the cost, and the dining room is very ordinary, but the view of the Taj and the staff make it all worth while.
