Reviews for Villa Gallici

The loveliest hotel in Aix

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I am still thinking about my stay at Villa Gallici and it's been over a week since I left. This hotel is quirky, cute, and charming. Even before my arrival, they offered to make all my arrangements for pick up at the train station and were lovely when I called them to confirm. They were willing to find restaurants that were open during Sunday and Monday when the town is practically all closed and make my reservations. They also happily welcomed and assisted a makeup artist and photographer I had for a small photoshoot at the hotel. The second I arrived, the hotel staff were welcoming and warm. It was a lovely stay from beginning to end and I am not French (as other reviews state that they prefer French people) Our hotel room was lovely and the Villa is definitely very detail oriented and has a strong theme. If you're into Bridgerton, Regencycore, ornate decor with lots of trinkets -- this is your place. It is adorable and everything is over the top. I thought it was super cute and every tray and plate that they offered us came with roses and little details that made it super dreamy and cozy. They even put a scroll in our room to invite us to tea every evening during our stay. Like I said, absolutely adorable. Breakfast was also laid out on tiny little trays and displayed to follow the theme. The location of the hotel is right outside the city center. It is about a 15 minute walk to everything. I loved the proximately to everything even if it required walking as it is the Chateux and Relais, it should be a little further out for the relaxation part. It was very peaceful and quiet every morning when I opened the windows. It really did feel like I was in my own world the entire time I was there. The room we were in was just a normal room and it was lovely. The room is always tidied when you leave and there's a turndown service as with all 5 star hotels. They lit a candle and rose petals every night though which I really appreciated. The room itself can get a little musty as it is an old villa and the AC was not working while we were there so we were offered a fan. This was not a huge problem for us as it was spring and not summer. In the summer, this could potentially be an issue. The amenities for the hotel, though small were sufficient. I visited the gym every day and it had more than many of the gyms at other hotels in France. We also visited the spa and got massages which were lovely! Camille was our massage therapist and she was amazing! The pool is heated year round and the spa is open for visitors pretty much whenever you decide to come by. Overall Villa Gallici is one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had and the highlight of my trip. I loved everyone that I met during my stay and I am dreaming of the day I get to return!

Always a lovely experience

Villa Gallici is a lovely boutique hotel, with the definite feel of Provence. We have had the good fortune of staying there several times now, and it is always a great pleasure. The hotel is within walking distance of the heart of Aix, yet it feels very secluded. We had a lovely upgraded room, with a great view of the cathedral. The staff is warm and welcoming. My only concern this time was with a lovely porcelain and metal piece that I purchased pretty much as I was checking out. The staff wrapped it beautifully, and I protected it on my way home like it was my newborn child, lol. Unfortunately, when I got home. I noticed that one of the porcelain flowers had previously had a petal break off and the metal holding that flower was also loose. I am sure that this did not happen in transit, as I scoured the packing material, etc. for the broken piece in case it did -- to no avail. I had actually hoped that if that had been the case, I might have been able to repair it. But I did really doubt it, given how well it was wrapped and how extremely protective I was of it on my way home. So, I am disappointed that the Villa Gallici staff who wrapped this item did not notice that it was broken. It is a medium sized flower petal missing and the piece still looks very nice-- but it has sharp edges where it had been broken, so I would think it might have been noticeable in packing. I probably still would have purchased it, but this was quite a pricey item. and I definitely would have addressed that had I noticed the issue before I purchased it and paid full price. I did contact the hotel about it and though they apologized, I really think their thought is that it likely happened in transit. But it did not. Anyway, my point is, enjoy this spectacular hotel, and if you want to purchase one of their lovely items, look at it very carefully before you do so.

Villa Gallici is a magical place. Old world charm paired with modern amenities, including great food, drink and service. An urban oasis, removed from the noise and commotion of the city yet within a few minutes walk from the great experience that Aix has to offer. It lived up to every expectation.

Subpar service for Relais & Chateaux property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

This property is elegant - both inside and out. But when it comes to service, we were very disappointed, especially in comparison to other Relais & Chateaux properties that we have stayed in. Specific requests at check-in, requested weeks prior to our check in was not provided even after repeated requests. (nothing elaborate or difficult to get). Paid a fortune for a 4-night stay in one of the 2 villas. The hot tub that was part of the villa was luke warm at best. Asked how to make water hotter, and followed instructions. The water was remained luke warm and no one came to check it. The restaurant on site has an elegant outdoor patio, and the food was excellent. Service was slightly lacking in attention (water refills, checking on meals, etc.). Very friendly waiters and patient with ordering and questions. The property itself couldn't be more elegant. Gorgeous landscaping, magnificent sculptures thoughout the grounds, perfect pool temperature, and lots of quiet space.

Outstanding and gorgeous boutique hotel

We booked Villa Gallici as a last minute add on of Aix to our trip to France and it was a smart decision. If you enjoy 5 star but smaller hotels (eg, SLH family), this place is hard to beat (our first time at a R&C, and we’re scratching our heads now as to why). We were there for quick 2 night stay to enjoy walking, shopping and eating our way through the old town, while having a calm base with a nice pool to relax at while we were there, and Villa Gallici was perfect. The main pool area and gardens are over the top luxurious. The photos “do it justice” but once you’re there it’s really a sight and scene to behold. The room was spectacularly ornate (if you can appreciate the 18th century frozen in time charm) with a great bathroom, terrace and balcony which we took advantage of for morning and afternoon espresso and the view. Location is great - 7 mins to the best hole in the wall bakery in Aix, and 10 minute walk max to the old town. Close enough to get to but set far back enough to be completely quiet and relaxing. Only discernible area that they need to improve upon as a 5 star is the pool service and daytime menu. Used and abandoned towels are left there for other guests (us) to remove, and you have to grab someone from the spa to call upstairs if you want to order anything off the menu (which is a bit too limited). Other than that though, which I’m writing just to help them improve, it’s hard to do better than the Villa Gallici - outstanding place. Thank you Matteo and team.
