Xandari Resort & Spa in Alajuela, Costa Rica
Immerse yourself in lush tropical beauty, surrounded by 40 acres of vibrant landscape high above Costa Rica's Central Valley, and soak in the sunny skies of Xandari Resort & Spa. Just outside of San Jose, this amazing resort - with approximately three miles of scenic trails, a river and waterfalls - will show you the true wonder of Central America. Stunning guest villas offer flowing architecture that winds through the gardens and creates a modern-meets-tropical design that is at once elegantly stunning and gracefully tranquil. Bright and open rooms are spacious and breezy, with gleaming tiled floors, pure white walls, and vivid colorful accents - all tied in to the rich wood décor and furniture. Brilliant natural light streams in through large sliding glass doors, while the views from private garden terraces will truly take your breath away.
As the sun rises over the valley take a leisurely morning stroll through the resort's botanical gardens, feeling the cool breeze as it carries the myriad songs of birds. Enjoy a hike along 4 kilometers of trails through the dense jungles around the resort, following the Tacacori River to five magical waterfalls and cooling off with a dip in the pools. Venture out on a bird watching tour in the morning, followed by a walk through the greenhouse and farmyard, then stretch out by the pool for an afternoon cocktail. Take a day out in the valley for the Doka Coffee Tour, where you will learn all about the process of making coffee and can even pick your own. In the evening make your way into downtown San Jose to stroll d6own the beautifully lit streets, shopping in boutiques and charming local shops, stopping for a drink at a café, and delving into the fabulous street food. With the sun setting over the valley now, after a full day of adventure and relaxation, return to the resort for dinner at the restaurant, where delicious Costa Rican cuisine is served outside as the sky becomes fiery reds and purples until the stars come out.

Reviews for Xandari Resort & Spa
The hotel was our first stop after arriving in Costa Rica. The rooms were spacious and had a beautiful view. Twin beds was a tad strange but after a long flight not an issue! Breakfast was disappointing as it was extra for hot food. Superb grounds with long walks. Shame it was so wet.
The arrival is lacking in that there is one small desk to sit at directly in the entrance so very cramped, the rooms are very spacious. The view is stunning and the walks to the waterfalls definitely worth doing both trails. The breakfast is disappointing in that although the continental breakfast is 'complimentary' we had booked bed and breakfast and found we had to pay for anything else, white or brown sliced bread, 2 types of cheese and 2 types of sliced meat , fruit and cake was not great, we opted for breakfast burritos which were so good just a shame you have to pay extra, our travel company imagine travel should have highlighted that

The only thing bad about that his hotel was the intermittent WiFi. Otherwise the property is beautiful, the rooms were airy and spacious. The food on property was delicious. The staff was friendly. Transportation to sights was easily arranged. It was probably the most restful three days I have had in years. The huge room patio was private with a breathtaking view. The desk even called to let us know there would be workers on the grounds near the room. The trails were well maintained and the waterfalls were amazing. If I ever return to Costa Rica, this is the only place I will stay.
Note: I deleted an earlier version of this review in order to make slight changes and additions to my comments and it appears that the hotel responded to my first review before it came down. My apologies to the hotel for that (I think it’s great that management replies to reviews) and I hope they will respond again. I’m thankful that I got a really great deal to stay here because unfortunately and to my surprise I did not enjoy my 1 night stay at Xandari. The reviews for this place are consistently excellent so I was stunned that this was not our experience. First the good. This is a beautiful resort and in a refreshing spot in the hills overlooking San Jose - picture glinting city lights and wisps of fog amid beautiful villas and gardens. It was also a 15-minute car ride down to the airport, though this was at 4:30am. Our villa was spacious, well laid out, the bathroom was huge, and it was filled with all kinds of interesting art. Now for the concerns - all smallish issues that unfortunately added up to a poor experience. Though many staff members we encountered were friendly I have the say that the service was really lacking in some areas. Preparations/Arrival: First off I sent two emails requesting assistance with arranging transportation to the hotel, only to be replied to too late and with room rates (inflated ones too!) instead of what I was politely asking for. Where did that come from?! Once at the hotel I was frustrated to see that there was only one desk to check in at and it was very slow going - not exactly the refreshing start to a stay you’d expect at a place of this supposed caliber and with such great reviews. Dinner: Dinner was decent though I ordered a drink that I never received and the complimentary canapés (a nice touch!) had a bad taste and were on stale bread. I couldn’t tell you what it was because I also wasn’t told when served them. Also, $5 US for ice cream will get you half a scoop FYI. Villa/Duplex: Our room was alright but it was clear that things were not tended to properly - with clothing tags from a previous occupant on the bathroom counter and ants all over the place. The wifi did not work even slightly, though we were warned about this at check-in (something about the fog being a factor). It worked fine in the lobby, though, so I’m not sure why they can’t improve the wifi elsewhere as well. The courtyard light was burnt out so it was impossible to see to un/lock the gate and front door. The neighbours were also quite noisy and we could clearly hear everything going on next door, unfortunately. Departure: I thought that would be the end of it but as we went to the desk to check out and catch our prearranged taxi the taxi wasn’t there and the staff seemed confused about our arrangements. They didn’t explain what they were doing or how/if they were helping us, but the taxi turned up despite their lack of communication with us. All they needed to say was that they’d help figure it out so we could get to the airport. Once at the airport we dug into our to-go breakfast (which was very nice of them to offer!) but unfortunately there was no fork/spoon for my fruit salad and the banana bread were two tiny over-sweet slivers - a disappointing parting gift fitting the rest of our experience. Recommendation: We really wanted to and expected to have a great stay at Xandari but it just didn’t happen! I recommend to stay at a hotel closer to the airport and to splurge elsewhere. Even with the great deal I got it wasn’t worth it!

We stayed at Xandari Resort & Spa for two nights in early November. My friend and I are both world travelers and so feel can make a pretty good assessment of accommodations. We both found this resort to be top notch for comfort, service, and environment. The views are breathtaking, the rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious and the gardens surrounding the resort are well-maintained. We spent a day at the spa and it was in our top 5 of spa experiences. Ana was fantastic in helping to arrange our day and the staff were friendly and professional. Diana was fantastic at breakfast and Alex was brilliant for lunch and dinner. They did their best and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and fun. Our welcome on the first night was also pleasurable and we felt very relaxed after having spent the day in traffic driving across the country. The pool are was clean and refreshing. The room comfortable and clean. The only fault we could find was the WiFi connections (very poor), which is maybe an advantage if you’re trying to disconnect and enjoy the beauty of the place. We are already talking about returning again in a few years. We loved it. Well done to the management and the staff.
