In the evening make your way into downtown San Jose to stroll d6own the beautifully lit streets, shopping in boutiques and charming local shops, stopping for a drink at a café, and delving into the fabulous street food. With the sun setting over the valley now, after a full day of adventure and relaxation, return to the resort for dinner at the restaurant, where delicious Costa Rican cuisine is served outside as the sky becomes fiery reds and purples until the stars come out.

We took a redeye from Los Angeles and Xandari not only sent a driver to retrieve us from the airport, but they fed us breakfast on arrival while they readied our room and allowed us to check in well before 10 AM! We actually stayed here for two nights on our way into San Jose and on our way out of San Jose. The first room was larger than the second but both were adequately sized with all of the necessary amenities. Be forewarned: there is no A/C, but the rooms remain at a comfortable temperature and there are fans if need be. There are gorgeous views from each room that can be viewed from a private balcony as well as a magnificent view from the main lobby and restaurant area. There is an infinity pool and jacuzzi and the pool area is nice to lay out at. The hotel itself is situated on a large plot of land that has hiking trails! We walked around them on the morning before we left the city and stumbled upon a grand waterfall. There is a spa, but we did not utilize it. We came in what is typically the rainy season (August); though it did rain for about an hour each day around 1300 or so, it was still super lovely. It really only rained through to the nighttime once or twice in fifteen days, but it was still nice coming from a drought stricken Los Angeles area. Do not be deterred! If you're staying in San Jose, definitely stay here!

While planning our family trip to Costa Rica, I read one comment that resonated with me. The writer posed the question: do you want your Costa Rican experience to begin after you spend a "restful" night at a motel or hotel near the airport in San Jose, have breakfast, and then finally get out into the country -- or do you wish for it to begin immediately? We chose "immediately", and selected Xandari as what appeared to be the most authentic yet luxurious of the options just outside of town. With spectacular views, colorful and spacious surroundings, comfortable beds, excellent food, and terrifically nice people, this was a five star stay. Thank you, Xandari!

We just stayed for one night after arriving in Costa Rica. The staff were lovely, the room huge (we are a family of 4 and there was tonnes of space), the gardens were gorgeous, food yummy and pools great (esp Sunset pool.)

My family and I spent 1 day (lunch and dinner) at this resort. The food was outstanding (at a reasonable price). The villa (plus) had a beautiful view of San Jose, along with very comfortable beds, and the hospitality was exceptional. We would definitely stay at this resort again.

My wife and I enjoyed two great nights in this wonderful hotel. The grounds are really beautiful and very well maintained. There are extensive walking trails within the grounds and several waterfalls can be visited. Our room was very large and comfortable and the quality of everything was excellent. The breakfast was very good but the restaurant really comes into its own for dinner when you can enjoy fantastic views over San Jose. The only downside is the very poor WiFi. Its understandable that it may be weak in some of the more remote rooms but I found it almost non existent in the main reception area also. There's no reason they shouldn't improve this.
