Reviews for Xandari Resort & Spa
Stayed the just a night at the Xandari as an overnight before a flight. Really interesting property-- beautifully landscaped. Has a short but very steep hike to see amazing waterfalls. Has numerous nice pools. One of the best things is the amazing views from all the rooms. The rooms themselves are really large and nicely designed. Food in restaurant pretty good, not great. Highly recommend for families needing an overnight stay in San Jose-- my kids wished they could stay for longer.
Arriving late we had not seen how beautiful the garden was layed out; really enjoyable to walk through and enjoy the vistas from different angles. Our villa was also well appointed and decorated; complemented by nice food and interesting possibilities to explore the large estate, we really used our 3 day stay here to the fullest. We however would have ranked this hotel as a 4 star, rather than just a 3 star.

Just got back from our family spring break vacation to Costa Rica. The Xandari was definitely a highlight of our trip. I originally chose the hotel based on other reviews and proximity to the airport due to a very early morning flight. Room: They welcomed us immediately upon arrival with taking our luggage out of the car and offering us a drink. The room does not have air conditioning, but was very comfortable with the fan. The soap/shampoo/conditioner were all wonderful products that smelled great! Our room was very private and had a large balcony with a gorgeous view and overlooked pineapples growing on the property grounds. The artwork, stained glass and beautiful ceilings were all so pretty and added to the uniqueness of the room. Our room also had a small wet bar, and softdrinks/juices were complimentary in the mini fridge. The only downside to the room was the single, rollaway bed was lumpy and uncomforable, so my daughter squeezed in with us on the king size bed. Food: breakfast is included and we found to be very delicious! The fresh juices, cut fruit, gaillo pinto, homemade granola bars, and muffins were our favorites. Good coffee too! The views from the dining area are so pretty, both during the day and at night. We also enjoyed our dinner at the hotel, and although expensive, tasted great and had very pretty presentation. Staff: all the staff were very friendly, helpful, and went our of their way to help us with anything we needed, especially David. We had a very early morning flight and they even packed a "to-go" breakfast for us. The mixed fruit cup they provided was the best, sweetest fruit we had eaten! Pool and grounds: We walked around the hotel grounds, which I was so impressed with. It's like you have paid to enter a botanical garden, but is all part of the hotel property. We swam at the Sunset pool, which also has gorgeous views and warm water. Many times, we were the only ones at the pool so it felt very private. They also offered us a ride in the golf cart to take us from the reception to the Sunset pool since it is a little bit of a walk. Spa: we did not have time to try the spa, so I cannot review. Overall: you will love your stay at the Xandari Resort.
We heard about this place from fellow travelers and when we needed a room near the airport for our last night we gave it a try. Our visit was last minute and we were fortunate that there was a villa available. We didn't know what we were getting into. This place is extraordinary. The villas were designed by an architect whose artist wife filled with art. We have never stayed in a place like it. Our villa was a the end (there are only 27) and it was quiet with beautiful views. The gardens are amazing and forty acres were too much for us to cover in one visit. We made it to one waterfall, not the biggest one, and it was quite spectacular. The food was excellent. This place is expensive but it is a bargain. We will return. It is the perfect place to splurge on entry to or exit from Costa Rica.

The villa; 5 stars, easy! We stayed in the Star Villa which overlooked the infinity pool – breathtaking views. It was clean, bright and accommodated us perfectly. We didn’t use the kitchen because we were only here one night but it looked very well equipped. As were the bathrooms – blow dryers, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, towels. There is no AC but the weather was actually very comfortable the night we were there. We wish we could have stayed an extra day to enjoy more of the amenities. They had armed security on site as well - and we were able to checkout at 3am because they have someone always staffed at the front desk! Restaurant food/drinks were very pricey we felt for Costa Rica. Heck, they were pricey for the states! $7 for their local beer (which we had enjoyed all week elsewhere in Costa Rica for $2) and $12 for a vodka martini. Eeeesh. The food was OK. By the time we finally got it, it was luke-warm, which for my ribeye was kind of a bummer. Lobster was rubbery unfortunately and for the price we paid ($55!) that is unacceptable. Salad was delicious and beautifully plated! Because our departure was at 3am they organized and packed breakfasts for all of us which I thought was such a bonus! The kids LOVED the banana bread! The pool was beautiful and warm but the kids were wearing goggles and said it was very dirty? I was impressed to find a hot tub although we didn’t get a chance to use it. Staff was wonderful, friendly, and accommodating. We would stay again, just bring our own food and drinks and take full advantage of our private kitchen in the Villa.
