Xandari Resort & Spa in Alajuela, Costa Rica
Immerse yourself in lush tropical beauty, surrounded by 40 acres of vibrant landscape high above Costa Rica's Central Valley, and soak in the sunny skies of Xandari Resort & Spa. Just outside of San Jose, this amazing resort - with approximately three miles of scenic trails, a river and waterfalls - will show you the true wonder of Central America. Stunning guest villas offer flowing architecture that winds through the gardens and creates a modern-meets-tropical design that is at once elegantly stunning and gracefully tranquil. Bright and open rooms are spacious and breezy, with gleaming tiled floors, pure white walls, and vivid colorful accents - all tied in to the rich wood décor and furniture. Brilliant natural light streams in through large sliding glass doors, while the views from private garden terraces will truly take your breath away.
As the sun rises over the valley take a leisurely morning stroll through the resort's botanical gardens, feeling the cool breeze as it carries the myriad songs of birds. Enjoy a hike along 4 kilometers of trails through the dense jungles around the resort, following the Tacacori River to five magical waterfalls and cooling off with a dip in the pools. Venture out on a bird watching tour in the morning, followed by a walk through the greenhouse and farmyard, then stretch out by the pool for an afternoon cocktail. Take a day out in the valley for the Doka Coffee Tour, where you will learn all about the process of making coffee and can even pick your own. In the evening make your way into downtown San Jose to stroll d6own the beautifully lit streets, shopping in boutiques and charming local shops, stopping for a drink at a café, and delving into the fabulous street food. With the sun setting over the valley now, after a full day of adventure and relaxation, return to the resort for dinner at the restaurant, where delicious Costa Rican cuisine is served outside as the sky becomes fiery reds and purples until the stars come out.

Reviews for Xandari Resort & Spa
I can't imagine a better place to stay to get start our trip. The views are incredible! The resort & gardens were beautiful and the staff was more than wonderful. The food was delicious. Just don't make the same mistake that I did - plan to stay for more than one night!!

We stayed here at the end of our trip and i would highly recommend you spend 2 nights here. The rooms are very pretty, especially if you love colourful and spacious but the views over San Jose especially at night are amazing! There are trails to walk on the propery which are seriously long. Garden are extensive with pools of all sorts (4 in total). Finally there is a restaurant which serves al fresco with a view over the city......wow.......highly recommended and our new favorite in San Jose!

Stayed twice on recent family holiday in Costa Rica. The best food we encountered of the four (5*) hotels we stayed in. Xandari is really a collection of generously-proportioned rooms set in beautiful grounds, with a restaurant and a couple of pools (plus a small spa). The star attraction is the five short hikes in the grounds, each to a different waterfall; these alone are well worth the price of a stay at Xandari. Very few negatives. Given its proximity (25 mins) to San Jose airport, many travelers stay for a single night on arrival or pre-departure - so it's a shame it doesn't have a gym to help people recover after the flight. Rooms lack airconditioning, although at this altitude this was not a major drawback (staying in August). Breakfast service in the restaurant is sloppy and very slow. Otherwise a great place. Recommended.

I travel to Costa Rica frequently for business and needed a room for one night when a friend was in town, so booked this after finding it on Trip Advisor. We fell in love with the grounds, the staff, and the amazing serene waterfall hikes on the property. Their laundry services were reasonable, and the highlight of our stay there was the fact we got to plant a tree as part of their sustainability initiative! HIGHLY recommend this property and can't wait to return to see how big the tree has grown next year :)

This is my second stay at Xandari, this time with some friends, and it didn't fail to amaze everyone. This hotel is so close to the city and the airport, however, once you're there it seems you're in another place. It is very calm, surrounded by nature and fresh air. There are some trails that are nice to explore the grounds and a nearby river. The property is huge, even going from your room to the main pool may require some driving (internal road) or a 10-min walk if you're located at the other side of the hotel, but even that is enjoyable. The rooms are very original and spacious, all of them have a great view of the central valley. The restaurant is excellent as well with good variety of options. Finally, the main pool is big and never crowded, again, with a geourgeous view of the central valley and if you're lucky you may see one of the great sunsets at the end of the day. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a stay near the city, but in a relaxing and beautiful place.
