Xandari Resort & Spa in Alajuela, Costa Rica
Immerse yourself in lush tropical beauty, surrounded by 40 acres of vibrant landscape high above Costa Rica's Central Valley, and soak in the sunny skies of Xandari Resort & Spa. Just outside of San Jose, this amazing resort - with approximately three miles of scenic trails, a river and waterfalls - will show you the true wonder of Central America. Stunning guest villas offer flowing architecture that winds through the gardens and creates a modern-meets-tropical design that is at once elegantly stunning and gracefully tranquil. Bright and open rooms are spacious and breezy, with gleaming tiled floors, pure white walls, and vivid colorful accents - all tied in to the rich wood décor and furniture. Brilliant natural light streams in through large sliding glass doors, while the views from private garden terraces will truly take your breath away.
As the sun rises over the valley take a leisurely morning stroll through the resort's botanical gardens, feeling the cool breeze as it carries the myriad songs of birds. Enjoy a hike along 4 kilometers of trails through the dense jungles around the resort, following the Tacacori River to five magical waterfalls and cooling off with a dip in the pools. Venture out on a bird watching tour in the morning, followed by a walk through the greenhouse and farmyard, then stretch out by the pool for an afternoon cocktail. Take a day out in the valley for the Doka Coffee Tour, where you will learn all about the process of making coffee and can even pick your own. In the evening make your way into downtown San Jose to stroll d6own the beautifully lit streets, shopping in boutiques and charming local shops, stopping for a drink at a café, and delving into the fabulous street food. With the sun setting over the valley now, after a full day of adventure and relaxation, return to the resort for dinner at the restaurant, where delicious Costa Rican cuisine is served outside as the sky becomes fiery reds and purples until the stars come out.

Reviews for Xandari Resort & Spa
Xandari is an incredible resort with the most gorgeous gardens, colorful art work and sculptures, hiking paths to five Waterfalls, several swimming pools and fantastic service! I was blown away by the beauty and care taken on the grounds to create this paradise. There are paths throughout the property leading to the spa, pools, waterfalls and hotel rooms, and the gardens along these paths are lush in blooms, trees and cacti. Art sculptures are mixed in with the plants which was lovely. There is a bamboo forest that was really impressive to stand in and hear the trees gently moan in the wind. We stayed three nights in two different rooms (this was due to a change in our travel plans after booking the initial night's stay), and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Each room has a private courtyard and garden at the entrance, and the bathroom has French doors opening up to it--but it's very private and there is a gate you can lock. The rooms continue the colorful theme of Xandari with bold accent walls and original artwork. There are plenty of places to store your items in the bathroom, plus a closet, safe, mini fridge stocked with free water and juices and beer/wine for purchase, bathrobes and back patio with seating. No TV in rooms but TV in lobby. Wifi worked great. Great breakfast buffet and meals in an open air dining room overlooking Alajuela and San Jose. Near the lobby is a container garden with herbs and sweet strawberries you can pick off and eat! Gated resort with plenty of parking and security. It was close to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, each about 45 minutes-one hour away. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to visit again!

We have stayed at this property multiple times and its always top notch! The views, the rooms, staff & whoever takes care of their gardens/landscaping needs a pay raise because it is gorgeous! Lucy is always very kind and we appreciate her remembering our names - means a lot!

My husband and I only spend 1 night at Xandari (before our early morning flight out of SJO). We're so glad we stayed here. It was the cherry on top of our Costa Rica vacation. We arrived early - and the staff was very accommodating to our early arrival. Lunch and dinner were awesome. The views - amazing! Our villa was perfect. We spent the afternoon hiking to the waterfalls and relaxing in the infinity pool. We spent a little time exploring the property (the farm, the greenhouse, etc). The property is just gorgeous. Xandari is very close to the Poas Volcano as well - about 30 min I believe. It was close during our stay due to recent activity. And Xandari is only a 20 minute drive to SJO. The front desk arranged our transportation to the airport and the driver was prompt and security was at our door ready to help with the luggage. Also, there is no A/C in the rooms/villas - but it's not needed! It was so fresh in our room at night with the cool breeze.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and STILL talk about this property. They have food made on site, their own hiking trails, streams and waterfalls, several pools and amazing city views. The rooms were amazing private villas with a beautiful view of the city and the mountains. We could see the sunset and sunrise from where our room was located. Simply amazing. The people were friendly and food was delicious. There are no TVs in the room which was fine with us and there is a computer in the lobby. It is a great place to disconnect and get away for an exciting adventure

Beautiful hotel in Alajuela in the middle of the tropical forest, be prepared for rain in the afternoon. It has 4 waterfalls. We visit one with my 7 year old girl and it was great family time (20 minutes walk). It has beautiful gardens and trails, 3 pools and, also spa services. We tried the relaxing combo with jacuzzi time and it was great (better if you book before 2 pm). If you want great view from Alajuela and San Jose, and also more seclude room, ask for the villas near the sunset pool. We have the villa 10, close to the restaurant, very convenient if you have kids. The food is good, we tried the typical costarican food and the portobello burger, both recommended. Great program for environmental compromise, you can plant a tree and the put a plaque with your name and they send you pictures of the moment and the tree growing a year after that. We'll see.
