About the Hotel

The building now known as Hospes Amerigo went through many incarnations before it turned into a sleek, design-centric hotel in the heart of Alicante. It was first the Dominican Convent of Alicante before morphing into an office block and an apartment complex, and its history imbues the hotel with distinction. Bold details, such as geometrically abstract silk wall hangings, complement a neutral color scheme, while the rooftop restaurant and spa complex draws guests day and night. Alicante’s nightlife is sizzling, but it’s hard to resist a post-dinner massage.

Great location and service

Stayed 4/17-4/20 and the hotel location was excellent, very centric to the main attractions. The room was comfortable, roomy and most important impecably clean. We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday and although we didn’t request any special treatment, the hotel management surprised us with a beautiful set up with a wine bottle and some delicious treats. The outdoor smoking area and restaurant alley was just a beautiful place to sit down, have a nice bite of food and relax. The only reason I don’t give it an excellent review is the bed was a bit uncomfortable with a dip in the middle and a hard mattress which for someone like me that suffers of back pain it didn’t help.

Disappointing

The good thing is that the hotel is beautiful and the staff very friendly. I got a very nice upgrade as a platinum Bonvoy. However at this level and price point, you have high expectations. Small things: when I checked in I was told the hotel had an agreement with a nearby public parking garage where you could park for €10 instead of €26 at the hotel; they failed to mention you had to get the ticket stamped by them before leaving the garage. The phone had no indication how to call reception; I just kept pushing buttons until someone answered. I got a very good recommendation for a restaurant, but they failed to mention a reservation was necessary, so when we got there there were no tables. More important: awful sound insulation and this was in a luxury room. Windows are double-paned but it sounds like the window is open. Alicante is a loud city so you need good insulation if you want to sleep with the bars playing music all night. Turns out there is a huge gap above the frame and the window might as well be open. Also, pillows are synthetic and not down. Shocking for a 5-star hotel.

Good location but multiple room problems and no management presence.

We booked a 3 night break. On the positive the hotel is centrally located , the staff are helpful and the breakfast was great , on the negative - our room was on the first floor and we were woken from 5am onwards by doors being slammed open and shut, it appears we were put next to the staff changing areas and reception didn't seem surprised at the door banging (!!) ... so we moved room the next day.In the second room the shower did not work (permanently scolding water) we were told there was no maintenance on site and it was left so we couldn't have a shower. There was no manager on site all weekend to help resolve the issues but were told the GM "Jose" would call us back whist we were there, but they didn't have the courtesy to do so and still haven't. It does seem odd to have no management presence over a weekend when the hotel is full. Not what we were expecting when we booked and I personally would not return and would not recommend.

Exceptional Customer service

We returned to this hotel because it was so good last year. unfortunately on the first day of our holiday one of our group tripped and suffered a bad injury. The following morning our group member needed hospital attention, after contacting the hotels reception the hotels manager and all his staff delivered 5 star customer service and did everything to help their guest receive much needed medical attention, what a fantastic hotel.Thank you.
