NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi in Amalfi Salerno, Italy

Seemingly molded into the side of a jagged cliffside is the Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Teetering high above the Amalfi Coast, this former 13th-century monastery is now a glorious hotel situated along the Italian seaboard. Impeccably restored to its original splendor, yet not without expected conveniences, the Grand Hotel features just 53 tasteful rooms and suites with a white motif and latte accents. French doors push open revealing Juliet-style balconies encased with ornate iron balustrades and million-dollar seascape views. The hotel's crisp alabaster color scheme is infused with brilliant hues courtesy of blooming bougainvillea, leafy emerald plants and azure reflections from the sea.

While it is tempting to want to luxuriate behind the doors of your exquisite chamber, there are plenty of public spaces that deserve accolades as well. An infinity-edge pool has a Romanesque feel with a tiled deck, ample-size loungers and incredible ocean vistas. The wellness center features a hammam and an array of spa treatments. There is also an on-site 13th-century Norman-Arab cloister and spectacular loggia with stunning vistas that is a favorite subject of plein air artists. Grand Hotel's Dei Cappuccini restaurant is a wonderful discovery, again with amazing views, coupled with rich, Italian flavors. The hotel's beach is open from the early morning until dusk and features a barefoot bar and restaurant plus complimentary umbrella, sun beds and towels. Among the hotel's many assets is its romantic location. The charming terraced towns, eye-catching confetti-colored buildings, and la dolce vita attitude will stick with you long after you have left this paradisio.

Just got back from a trip to Europe where my husband and I eloped in Amalfi. We stayed at this hotel and could not have had a better experience. The hotel is beautiful, and one of the most unique properties I've stayed at ever. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a suite with a beautiful balcony overlooking the sea. The staff was attentive and very easy to work with. I have zero complaints about our hotel experience. I will also say that our 4 friends who came with us on the trip stayed at a hotel just down the hill to save a little money and had an awful experience. They all agreed that they wish they had stayed at our hotel and paid a little more.

“Enchantment” best describes our stay at this hotel. It was good to go into town to see shops, coffee bars and such. But staying at this hotel was such a delight, my wife and I were jealous to leave. The staff, the surroundings, the chef made us feel we were in a villa/ castle that was ours. So clean and accommodating. The views were breathtaking. I wanted to just keep my bathroom on and walk the grounds every hour (with a glass of Amafi wine in hand). As a Nikon Ambassador, my wife has photographed around the world. To hear her expressions of appreciation for this hotel and what it offers made me very very happy to have chosen to stay here.

Our hotel was amazing. The view out to sea was stunning. We had three sets of doors opening on to our terrace overlooking Amalfi. The room was bright and comfortable. We ate in the hotel restaurant and it was delightful. This is an extremely expensive hotel, but we got a great price going off season. There is a very helpful shuttle that runs up and down the hill into town, so that guests do not have to traverse the steep roadside. In room amenities were wonderful... very happy here.

The hotel was a former monastery and stretches out over a large area at the steep hillside overlooking Amalfi. The room was very comfortable and had a privat balcony. A modern infinity pool is overlooking the sea. The breakfast was very delicious and the view from the terrace is just breathtaking. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

The hotel was lovely and so many areas to investigate including the church. The service overall was excellent as was the service and the food and the ambience. Visiting in Nov can have its challenges, a lot of nice weather but quite a few showers, but warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the morning rays.
