NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi in Amalfi Salerno, Italy

Seemingly molded into the side of a jagged cliffside is the Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi – part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Teetering high above the Amalfi Coast, this former 13th-century monastery is now a glorious hotel situated along the Italian seaboard. Impeccably restored to its original splendor, yet not without expected conveniences, the Grand Hotel features just 53 tasteful rooms and suites with a white motif and latte accents. French doors push open revealing Juliet-style balconies encased with ornate iron balustrades and million-dollar seascape views. The hotel's crisp alabaster color scheme is infused with brilliant hues courtesy of blooming bougainvillea, leafy emerald plants and azure reflections from the sea.

While it is tempting to want to luxuriate behind the doors of your exquisite chamber, there are plenty of public spaces that deserve accolades as well. An infinity-edge pool has a Romanesque feel with a tiled deck, ample-size loungers and incredible ocean vistas. The wellness center features a hammam and an array of spa treatments. There is also an on-site 13th-century Norman-Arab cloister and spectacular loggia with stunning vistas that is a favorite subject of plein air artists. Grand Hotel's Dei Cappuccini restaurant is a wonderful discovery, again with amazing views, coupled with rich, Italian flavors. The hotel's beach is open from the early morning until dusk and features a barefoot bar and restaurant plus complimentary umbrella, sun beds and towels. Among the hotel's many assets is its romantic location. The charming terraced towns, eye-catching confetti-colored buildings, and la dolce vita attitude will stick with you long after you have left this paradisio.

This hotel was recommended to me by quite a few people and after our visit this weekend I would 100% recommend it myself. It's absolutely stunning and the perfect location. I have never seen such a beautiful view from every part of the hotel. Staff and food are amazing. The history behind the hotel is incredible and yet the rooms are very modern and crisp. Thank you for making my husbands 40th truly unforgettable!!!

This is our second stay here and the place is wonderful. Awesome view that makes you not want to leave. The hotel and rooms are bright, warm and comfortable. All the staff are pleasant. Service is excellent. I have absolutely no complaints. It's a convenient but strenuous walk to and from town. A shuttle runs every hour if needed. The onsite restaurant now has a mixed flare of some sushi dishes. There are also plenty of choices in town too. I plan to keep coming back to this hotel in Amalfi.

Perched on a cliff top overlooking the sea, this hotel is nothing short of spectacular. I have to say, the accomplished staff rival the view. The kindness and thoughtfulness we experienced during our stay for our daughter's wedding was nothing short of outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff of the Convento, Everyone went out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly. There was one small blip, a human error, which has to be overlooked, in my opinion. Human error is just that. We're all guilty at some point, and it was easily outweighed by the hotel staff's overall kindness and the management's eagerness to put things right. Be aware that the spectacular view comes at a price. There are steps! However, a town car runs on the hour to take guests to and from the town, or there is a adventure-walk down the narrow main road into town, which guests should know, has no pavement. This is fine for adults, but you might want to think twice about walking with young children. The town car is free, though a tip is always appreciated. To give you an idea of the level of service, the town car is obviously not available at all hours, yet after my daughter's wedding when my feet and the bride's were 'danced out', a call to the hotel ensured that the car was sent at one o'clock in the morning to retrieve us. The food was excellent. The waiters as polished and professional, and as warm as I have come to expect in Italy. Again, kindness and friendliness was superb. The Japanese fusion restaurant serves delicious food, which all the family enjoyed. However, this is not my husband's preference and so our waiter arranged for a special pasta to be served especially for him. Little touches like this go a long way to making the Convento and its staff stand out. The rooms are not the best I have ever stayed in, but are more than adequate with spectacular views in our case. Lack of storage was a niggle, and yes, I'm afraid I do love a mountain of towels, and plenty of English tea, but if I had had more time, rather than being wrapped up in a wedding, I'm sure a quick word to housekeeping would have rectified this, so I have no complaints - but I would advise you to scan the room and see what you might need from the off. Overall, I can only thank the Convento management and staff for their valuable contribution to a most wonderfully warm Italian experience, which made our daughter's wedding so very special.

Stayed for a week with my wife, my daughter and fiancé, and my daughter and grand daughter. Not cheap but in my eyes good value. The staff are simply excellent. Victoria in Housekeeping, Diego in the restaurant, Paolo at breakfast to name but a few. Nothing proved to be too much trouble, food was great, location breathtaking, faciltlies good, but the staff make this a great hotel. A most excellent week, we will return.

After the proposal on the Belvedere terrace one year ago, we went back to NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi for our honeymoon. The perfect place for this special occasion. The welcome was unforgetable; in our room there was a heart of flowers on the bed, fruit and a bottle of Prosecco. But we were most surprised by the lovely words written on the mirror in the bathroom and the personal welcome letter. For us the unique selling points of this hotel are the staff, location, eye for detail and the gardens. The staff is very friendly, make you feel welcome/special. They work together as a family. Their attitude towards the guest is very pro active. There is always time for a conversation and they make you feel part of the family. Another amazing experience was the tour Alfonso gave us through the gardens were the herbs, fruits and vegetabeles are growing which the hotel uses in the restaurant and bar. The tour was special and we recommend to every guest to do this as well. In special we would like to thank Salvatore, Antonio, Alfonso, Paolo, Francesco and Davide for the amazing experience they gave us. This experience will always have a special place in our hearts. Grazie mille e a la prossima! Ciao and best regards, Jochem & Jacqueline
