Combining picturesque tropical accommodations with unforgettable adventure, El Pescador is both a haven and a playground off the east coast of Belize. This family-run resort enjoys a secluded location on the beach at Ambergris Caye, where each of the freestanding luxury villas - as well as all guest rooms in the gracious, colonial-style lodge - face the sea. Savor the Caribbean's distinctive flavors with fresh local cuisine at the restaurant, then head to the bar to swap the day's stories over signature rum punch. Whether you are dreaming of active pursuits, water adventures, or just relaxing in a beachfront paradise, the experienced staff at El Pescador resort will help you have the perfect Belize vacation.

From trolling the local waters to casting in the tarpon flats, fishing is a highlight at this singular resort. When not on the hunt for bonefish or permit, you might explore the region's famed barrier reef with El Pescador's own master dive and snorkel instructors. Stroll to nearby San Pedro town for its lively dining scene, or take a jungle river cruise to a Mayan archaeological site. When it comes to unique pursuits, the opportunities at El Pescador are endless.

What a Dream Team: El Pescador Lodge and Villas and Orvis Adventures. This entire operation is professional from first sign-up with Orvis in the States to the General Managers' personal last send-off by water taxi leaving (sadly) the fishing waters on the last day on Ambergris Caye, Belize. The accommodations were great, the staff courteous and professional, the meals beyond expectations. But the fishing is the reason we went, and the fishing is the reason we will be going back. This was our first time to wet a saltwater fly line; it will not be our last. It was our first Orvis Adventure; it will not be our last. And it was our first visit to El Pescador; it will not be our last.

We did a father-son (12 y/o) fly-fishing trip last week and booked the hotel and fishing guide services as part of an Orvis organized trip, and just returned. We were there for 5 days in mid-June, 3 days fly-fishing. Overall, the hotel and facilities were actually nicer than the photos on their website, so I was pleasantly surprised. We were in the main building in a downstairs room. The room was in very good condition, and I did not have any issues with noise from the upstairs or next door rooms. I was expecting a nice but not luxury fishing lodge, and it actually was better than I had anticipated. The staff who work there are generally all very friendly. The lodge is owned and run by Americans. The managers Ken and Ann were very friendly and run a good operation. The guys behind the bar Mariano and Jason were great, as were the dinner staff. This was our first time saltwater flats fishing so we signed up with the Orvis hosted bonefish bonanza week. Our Orvis host Reid was very helpful in making sure the fishing side of it was taken care of, including arranging for us to borrow an extra rod, and checking our flies, knots, etc. The breakfasts are table service, and dinner is a buffet style line. Plenty of food, which was pretty good, including lobster tails on our final night. They pack a cooler lunch for you to take out on your fishing day, which is less good, but still eatable. Everyone there is there to fish, so its a generally similarly-thinking crowd; very friendly guests, and the family style at seating (and open bar in the afternoons) helps to facilitate that. As I think about it, I believe all of the guests (or at least almost all of them) during our week were American. We didn't leave the lodge other than to fish, but many of the guests did to go into town or do snorkel or other activities, and they seemed happy. There are 3 pools, which are all maintained well, as is the beach. With respect to the guys that sell stuff on the beach in front of the resort, I thought they were all very respectful, and they never approached or hassled us. Fly fishing on the flats was a great experience. The sun is totally brutal, so make sure you cover up everything, so you don't get sunburned as I did. The wade fishing on the flats, including the sand bar, were truly well worth the trip. While I rate the lodge as an excellent fishing lodge, a few things that could have been improved: 1. We were not met at the airport as promised by a lodge representative. After waiting about 20 minutes standing at the pickup area, I was able to prevail upon a Tropic Air representative to call the lodge for me. About 15 minutes later, a taxi showed up asking if we were here for El Pescador. The taxi driver then drove us to a dock about 10 minutes away and left us there by ourselves with all our luggage sitting on the dock in San Pedro. The El Pescador boat finally showed up about 15 minutes after that. This caused some anxiety for my son as we are in a foreign country, but it ended up fine. We let the front office know what had happened when we finally arrived at the lodge, but there was never any follow-up from anyone. None of the other guests seemed to have any issues getting picked up, so I think our situation was not typical. 2. The wifi is decent in the common bar and lounge areas, but there is no signal whatsoever in the hotel rooms themselves. Same for regular cell signal through the local tele provider BTL. The cell signal is actually much better on the flats than in the hotel rooms. By the way, you can pretty much get a cell signal our on the flats all the way from Amergis Caye to the border of Mexico. 3. We switched fishing guides after the first day. Our first guide was OK, but not really dialed in, and he had recently had hand surgery, so he was not even able to tie any knots. I think the fishing director should probably not have sent us out with a fishing guide who cannot tie flies or line, even if he is a nice guy. Our second guide, Jeo, was excellent, lots of energy, helped us to spot fish. He also spent a lot of time working with my son on his casting. Our Orvis host was very proactive in getting our guide switched. Other than the initial hiccup at the beginning of the trip where we were stranded at the airport, everything else went well, and we enjoyed our trip to El Pescador. Caught a lot of bonefish, and good shots at permit and jack. I would not hesitate to return (and we might), although I would be sure to re-confirm that they will meet you at the airport.

My wife and I came with another couple and had 2 of the bedrooms in a beach front Villa. 1 bedroom was downstairs and the other upstairs with the living area. Very functional and comfortable. We did the all inclusive so we didn't use the kitchen except for ice. The staff was fantastic, very friendly, remembered your name and went out of their way to help. My buddy and I fly fished 3 days and had to change guides after 2nd day. The head guide realized we needed a different guide before we asked. Almost gave a 4 as the dinners were good but not great that you expect at a resort, but everything else overwhelmed us.

My two buddies and I arrived at El Pescador for three days of flats fishing. We were all rookies at this type of fly fishing. From the time we stepped off the plane in San Pedro until we were dropped off for the flight home the El Pescador staff handled everything and, very well. Everything was well organized for the taxi / boat ride to and from the resort, the activities during our visit, meals, you name it. But, no regimentation, it was relaxed and efficient. As for the was a great time! Junior and Hilberto were terrific guides, patiently instructing us rookies and....we caught fish. The food, bar and roms were all top-notch. Can't wait to go back!
