El Pescador in Ambergris Caye, Belize

Combining picturesque tropical accommodations with unforgettable adventure, El Pescador is both a haven and a playground off the east coast of Belize. This family-run resort enjoys a secluded location on the beach at Ambergris Caye, where each of the freestanding luxury villas - as well as all guest rooms in the gracious, colonial-style lodge - face the sea. Savor the Caribbean's distinctive flavors with fresh local cuisine at the restaurant, then head to the bar to swap the day's stories over signature rum punch. Whether you are dreaming of active pursuits, water adventures, or just relaxing in a beachfront paradise, the experienced staff at El Pescador resort will help you have the perfect Belize vacation.

From trolling the local waters to casting in the tarpon flats, fishing is a highlight at this singular resort. When not on the hunt for bonefish or permit, you might explore the region's famed barrier reef with El Pescador's own master dive and snorkel instructors. Stroll to nearby San Pedro town for its lively dining scene, or take a jungle river cruise to a Mayan archaeological site. When it comes to unique pursuits, the opportunities at El Pescador are endless.

We just got home from a week stay at El Pescador Resort. We can't say enough about this wonderful place. My husband enjoyed 3 days work of fly fishing and my daughter 1, both were successful in catching bonefish! I enjoyed walking the beaches, laying by the pool and going into town. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the staff was warm and friendly. They do really treat you like your are part of their family. We can't wait to go back.

My wife and I recently came back from El Pescador, and had an absolute amazing time there. The owners, the staff, the food, the bar and the amazing service. They say you come as a guest and you leave as family. That is a true statement! Anything you want to do while you are there they will make all the arrangements for you! Not to,mention great fishing! We will definitly go back!

We found El Pescador as a result of wanting to go to Belize and looking at resorts on Trip Advisor that met some basic criteria. We took a harder look at their website and concluded that while the emphasis was clearly on fly-fishing, there also seemed to be plenty of other things to do. We were right on both counts, and had an outstanding family vacation (kids are 8 and 9). The service, food, accommodations and grounds were impeccable. We particularly enjoyed the 'smallness' of the resort - dinner is family style, with all guests sitting down at 6:45 PM to a set menu (my 8-year old was given a children's menu to order from each night - with all the traditional kids meal favorites to choose from). The resort was at or nearly at capacity, and I think there were probably still only 60 or so people sitting down for dinner. The seating arrangements provided for great conversation with the other guests - if you like this kind of thing you will have a lot of fun here. We have done mega-resorts and cruise ships in the past, and we found that this style was considerably more comfortable through the whole stay. And while we did not take the resort up on their highly rated bonefishing excursions (looked like lots of fun), we partook in a number of other adventures within and outside the resort. El Pescador provides access to all sorts on on-resort activities, including fishing tackle, canoes and kayaks. They also provide affordable golf cart rentals to enjoy the island (we went to San Pedro one day and a beach area another day). We chose to enjoy several snorkeling trips as well as a reef fishing excursion that included fishing, shore lunch (unbelievably good) and snorkeling again. The reef along the coast provides some fantastic snorkeling - I felt like I was in an aquarium most of the time! Wow. Our room was comfortable - a little dated perhaps but quite cozy in the context of the resort. We needed a circuit breaker reset the first night to get the hot water running but other than that, things were great. We found the wi-fi to be a little bit of a challenge - a reliable signal was only available near the office and was very spotty in the rooms. And the office wi-fi is designed for the basics only - streaming and such was not available. Ultimately this was not a bad thing, as we were able to take care of the important 'wired' things we needed to do, but the lack of full time fat bandwidth helped us to enjoy our surroundings more for sure. Overall we were very pleased with our choice - Belize, the San Pedro / Ambergis Caye area and El Pescador were all fantastic. We will be back, and when we come back, our first choice will be a return trip to El Pescador.

We stayed with friends in a 3 bedroom villa located on the beach. It worked out beautifully. The staff was very accomodating. We took advantage of the all inclusive package and enjoyed the daily meals, appetizers, and libations. The location is ideal for many activities. We took advantage of the professional fly fishing guide services and enjoyed our days searching for bone fish and permit. Some of our days we lounged around the pool or a walk on the beach. Easy to walk into San Pedro or drive in using one of the golf carts. A protected mangrove is fun for kayaking or canoeing. Lots of birds and fish there. All in all many things that appeal to different interests.

El Pescador Lodge is a great place for couples and for your first saltwater trip. There is an on site coach and fishing manager "Isa" to help you master casting and to provide feed back of your current skill set. HIs role is to coach as well as too help match a guide for your fishing package. This was our 2nd trip to the lodge and they now new local managemamet, Our expectations have been meet and the service is even better. The staff is stilll the same group of friendly people which are the true gem of this outfit. They are very respectful and kind. Everyone from the office staff ,maintenance, security, food staff, and guides work very hard to help make your stay very seamless and enjoyable. Joey and Heather - Grenada MS
