Special Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

If you are looking for a truly special place to stay in Amsterdam, this is your hotel. We stayed just as they were completing renovations and we thrilled by every aspect of the hotel. It is a service oriented hotel, which is apparent when the cheerful Peter greats you upon arrival. Checking in with us each day and always offering assistance, Peter represents the gold standard in hospitality. It is small, boutique style hotel...meaning it has a beautifully distinctive decor and a limited number of rooms. It doesn't feel full even tho it was fully booked. And the new look is subtle, beautiful and relaxing. The breakfast was excellent. The help with reservations and logistics was also excellent. We appreciated and made good use of the rental bikes the hotel has available. It is the ideal location if you prioritize the big museums and a quiet neighborhood. We walked the city and didn't use the tram, but those less mobile would need the tram to get to the city center or Jordaan neighborhoods. The only concern is our room faced the main street and therefore was a bit noisy. It was ok for us, but others may want to be more selective with rooms if they are concerned about street noise. We hope to visit again one day soon. Thanks for being one of the memorable parts of our trip.

Exceptional Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I want to thank everyone at the College Hotel Amsterdam for making me feel so welcomed. The staff care and are proud of their hotel and it extends to the exceptional level of customer service they provide. They take the time to get to know you and I shared many laughs with Fabrizio, Peter and Deborah. I left the hotel feeling like I made new friends! But everyone tries to help guests even if it's not their official role. It was the bartender who saw me first (the main entrance had not opened yet) and he ran out to help me with my luggage when I arrived and then he served me a drink as I was checking in. This hotel did disappoint with the historical character. The hotel's recent renovation has only made the hotel more beautiful and highlight its incredible architectural details but also its charming past as a boys school. While some parts were still under renovation, the main staircase is beautiful, lined with stained glass windows, huge porcelain vases and inlaid brick walls. I also loved the chalkboard sign for the room number to the ink blots and chemical formulas on the rugs. My room was very well-appointed with a very comfortable bed, mini fridge, desk and a huge wardrobe that contained an iron, ironing board and a steamer!I The bathroom is beautiful with a dark green stone basin and the largest rain shower head I have ever seen. The interior design aesthetic is contemporary but still respects the historic nature of the hotel. The hotel's location is within walking distance to Museumplein and the neighbouhood of De Pijp where there are many restaurants catering to all budgets and tastes. I loved the high quality delis, bakeries that I could drop into on my way back to the hotel. Highly recommend this hotel for the total experience of a character hotel with quality food and furnishings and exceptional customer service. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again.

Great service. Problematic rooms.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The staff service in the lobby was very good, especially Danyi and Fernando. The location is fabulous. The rooms themselves are problematic. Many rooms have stairs between the bed and the bathroom which can be dangerous if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Room 122 has no stairs within the room but was designed by person who never stayed in a hotel. The toilet is in a separate space from the shower but had no soap or place to hang a hand towel, nor did it have a mirror. The sinks in the toilet room and the room with the shower are tiny so you can't wash your hands or shave without water splashing all over the floor. Within the toilet room and the shower room, there is very little shelf space for toiletries. Within room 122, there is very little shelf space to put anything.

Danyi is fabulous

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

We were delighted with our stay and thanks to Danyi at reception we were so well taken care of ! The hotel is a class act, about to be renovated but it didn't look like it needed it. If you enjoy autograph properties you will love this one. Directly on tram line as well.

Great Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

The hotel is first class, great bar, breakfast included, they upgraded us to a large suite and the service is superb. We left apple EarPods in the room as we were leaving and the concierge ran out to catch us as we were waiting for the tram-he ran out in the cold and delivered them to us to make sure we were not leaving anything behind. He didnt have to do that, but he did....they go out of there way to make sure its a great experience, and we will go back and stay there most definitely again.
