Reviews for Dunbrody Country House Hotel
We visited here with high expectations for some really exceptional food based on the reputation of the named chef. Unfortunately we were left disappointed. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating, although they did seem overworked, it was a quiet Wednesday evening however there was only one waitress in the restaurant and at times she was rushing around trying to ensure all the guests were Ok. The food while pleasant was nothing special or what one would expect from a restaurant of this standard. I had rabbit to start, John Dory with Pork Belly for my main and rhubarb with rice pudding for dessert. My main issue with the food I ordered was the John Dory with Pork Belly, I did wonder if this combination would work but as it was created by a well known chef I assumed it must, unfortunately I don't think that it did at all. The separate elements were cooked well and while the Pork Belly with its rich meaty sauce tasted good, the sauce completely overwhelmed the delicate flavour of the fish and in my opinion ruined the experience of the fish, however I accept that this may just be my taste. My partner also was underwhelmed by his food, he had the beef as a main and thought it was a little tough. I will say that the dessert that I had the rhubarb and rice pudding was absolutely delicious very delicate flavours Overall a two star rating may be a little harsh but this is based on the fact that we expected a lot from Dunbrody house, given the reputation and price, and left disappointed.

I think we would have had a better stay if this was going to be a relaxing weekend stay. We simply used it as a stopover on our trip from Cork through Waterford to Dublin. This was a family trip and my teenager was somewhat bored with the place. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. The room we had did not have WI FI. It says the place has it, but its pretty spotty and we were not in a room with WIFI.

We got a surprise at the check in as we were upgraded to a deluxe room: spacious but cosy, beautifully furnished in traditional style. My most memorable experience in Dunbrody house was sleeping in such a comfortable king sized bed with extra mattress that I wanted to stay in that bed forever! The dining was exceptional too with masterful dishes, delicious wine though the lighting was so minimal we could hardly see each other and what was on our plates. An extra candle saved us from obscurity. Romantic dining could not be easily achieved! Relaxed and pampered after a romantic dinner and an indulgent breakfast, we walked in the woods and were happy to keep our memories of Dunbrody House as a very hospitable and special place,
Wow, what a place, from the minute we drove up the drive way we new we were in for a good weekend, shown to our very large bedroom and went down stairs to the beautiful bar for a few drinks. We arrived early so went for a walk around the gardens and forest that surround the house. Latter on we had a nothing but magical meal in the beautiful dinning room after we went down to the local, which is a pub they have built on the property, great live music and also as they brew there own beer on site , some great craft beer. The next morning we were shown to our table for some more great food a large breakfast. Now the nights stay with dinner and breakfast was't cheap but certainly was't dear for the whole expreience. We have book another weekend in October for the whole family for father inlaws 90th, and looking forward to it.

This place has been on my bucket list for a while so was delighted to finally visit it. We started with a trip to the spa. The treatments were excellent but the place needed a good deep clean. Big cobwebs and dust under the couches. Lunch in the bar was excellent. The room was good although the bed seemed elevated at the end so it was like sleeping with a pillow under your legs. The evening meal was very disappointing. Underseasoned, over cooked fish. Mash and veg swimming in butter. Steak ordered rare but arrived Medium-well. At breakfast I stepped on vegetables under the table which hadn't been swept up from the night before. The staff were lovely but seemed over stretched and I think it shows. Has the potential to be a real gem but needs a big dose of TLC.
