It is quite difficult to review Coworth Park as it is not the typical Palace nor the luxury Boutique hotel. It is a mixture of both worlds. On one side the Dorchester touch for truly luxurious service and on the other side the "Relais" atmosphere we all look for when traveling. I now have been there three times and at each stay it gets better. I usually dine at the Bark (By the fireplace) as it is cosy , casual and excellent "Brasserie" style of food with majority of ingredients coming straight for the farm.

Our family of 3 (including toddler) stayed at this hotel from 29th September - October 1st in a Stable Deluxe Room. We chose this hotel for a mini break due to its proximity to London, good reviews and the fact that it’s part of the Dorchester Collection. We actually took a cab from our home in London, and the journey took no longer than 40 minutes, and cost around £40. The hotel is close to Ascot, but once you arrive at the hotel, you don't actually want to leave the grounds! We arrived at the hotel and after check in, were transported to our room in the stables, by golf cart. This was no longer than 3 minute drive from reception. The room was elegantly decorated in barn style, with cute equestrian details. The bedroom was slightly small and I had spotted a few niggles, but the bathroom with separate shower and freestanding bathtub was a fantastic size. We were treated to welcome gifts for our toddler which included balloons, rubber duck and gingerbread as well as information on children's activities taking place around the hotel. The next day, we made a trip to the spa where there were set times for children to visit and enjoy the facilities, quite a nice touch, and we enjoyed some splash time in the pool for a good hour and a half. It was quite a rainy weekend, but thankfully we had bought our wellies, and appropriate walking gear so we could enjoy the grounds, which are absolutely stunning! Unfortunately I took ill, so couldn't sample the restaurant, but we did enjoy in room dining for both breakfast and dinner; breakfast there was a fantastic spread, but dinner is where the food was quite disappointing, and was quite the let down. What I liked about the hotel, was that it seemed to welcome children from the additional bed/cot to the children's activities around the hotel, our toddler was well catered for. Where I think that it didn't fulfil what I would expect from a Dorchester Collection hotel was the disappointing in room dining, and the less than immaculate order the room was in. It was an average stay for a hotel where rooms are upwards of £400 a night. I most likely won’t be staying here again, and would rate Coworth Park a 6.5/10.

We stayed 3 nights in a stable room over the weekend. It was well appointed, as expected. The stables are, as they say, a converted stable block, so all the rooms look inwards to the landscaped courtyard and your view is of your neighbours windows. Be warned there is little privacy here and no view of the stunning countryside which you may get if you book certain cottages or a room in the main house. Golf buggies are available to whisk you around the resort but they are not necessary if you are happy to walk a minute or two between your room and the main house and spa. We had breakfast every day in the hotels main restaurant, enjoying the sumptuous elegance of the room and the impeccable service. The scrambled eggs on the first day were amazing, but the next chef the day after unfortunately didn’t have the same recipe. We ate in The Barn twice in the evening and enjoyed venison, fish and chips, the burger and the sea bass. Again very good service but do book on a Friday and Saturday night as they don’t guarantee tables for resident guests. The bar upstairs in the barn will serve drinks but not food. We hired mountain bikes and rode across the road to Windsor Park and Virginia water lake, and then on to Windsor for the day. This was great, to be so close to such a wonderful park. We used the spa every day, enjoying the relaxing pool and fantastic steam room. Our only disappointment is that the spa is so limited with its amenities. I overheard other guests commenting the same. There is so much space I don’t see why there isn’t room for a sauna and jacuzzi. An out door hot tub would be wonderful on the terrace outside the pool. All in all a very memorable stay in a stunning country hotel only a stones throw from London. You could be anywhere when you walk around the grounds, completely unaware that Heathrow and the M25 are only 20 or so mins drive away. It’s well worth the expense and indulgence.
