Albergo Al Sole in Asolo, Italy

Touted as the crown jewel of Italy's Treviso Province, Asolo is home to the intimate and charming Albergo Al Sole. Housed in a freestanding 19th-century building with shuttered-clad windows and the occasional jutting terrace, you will enjoy the incredible town views as well as excellent service and charming accommodations. The 23 guestrooms and suites are spacious and wonderfully appealing, bridging the charm of the centuries past with the modern amenities expected from today's travelers. The stylish bathrooms, with their pedestal tubs and shiny chrome fixtures, are equally large and cloaked in beautiful Italian tiles with intricate details.

While Asolo has no shortage of fabulous ristorantes, you need not venture past the lobby doors. The hotel's Terrace restaurant is a private retreat with an excellent menu, complete with outdoor living room and savory views. You can also learn the art of Italian cooking with culinary lessons right on the premises at Las Terrazza Restaurant. The appeal of Albergo Al Sole, besides its romantic allure, is its enviable town center location. With a setting just a stone's throw from breathtaking Venice, Asolo is known for its stunning villas, manicured gardens and narrow, arcade-laden streets. It is also the hub for Italian antiquities with dealers displaying their wares the second Sunday of each month. Fill your days by sipping espresso in the market square, a lovely destination that is embellished with an ancient fountain, arched doorways and lovely porticos - or venture into Venice to shop for Murano glass or leather goods. Time spent in Asolo and its surrounding areas is definitely time spent well.

If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. This is a 5 star hotel- the reception is plush, modern, bright and airy. First impression was excellent. We were shown to our room that was large but dated. We did not get a room with a view. The shower was temperamental, with hot water one second and cold the other. Overall however a comfortable stay. We stayed in this hotel for one night as a stopover. The room price was far from value, but it seems the whole town charges a hefty price for an overnight stay. The town is amazingly charming with cobbled stones. We arrived late in the evening and therefore we opted to eat in the in-house restaurant. It was excellent. We were served excellent wine, Valpolicella Ripasso to go with our meat dish. The produce was fresh, local and in season. The food, given the restaurant class, was appropriately priced. It is not cheap but it was quality. Service was also attentive. Breakfast was fine too. It was served in the restaurant with the beautiful town views. Parking was available on the hotel grounds at no extra charge. For a stopover night, this hotel was fine with enough to explore or spend a weekend of leisure.

My family and I stopped in Asolo for three days and slept at Albergo Al Sole for two nights. The rooms are spacious and clean, the service impeccable, the staff nice, professional and able to speak very good English (do not get this for granted in Italy). It was not just time spent in a hotel, but wonderful time in a beautiful historical building getting to know its history and fun facts. Eleonora Duse loved room 202 and we now understand why she was so in love with this place. The family that now owns the Albergo Al Sole put so much effort in making a unique place where people can feel like home but definitely cuddled and taken care of. Albergo Al Sole faces the sun from sunrise to sunset and the view to the piazza is amazing. You can walk from the hotel to everywhere in Asolo but the hotel also offers complementary private parking. We were able to eat in the Grotta di Bacco and it was a unique experience with very good food. We loved this place and we definitely recommend staying in here while in Asolo.

Going back to Asolo is going into my history... my grandfather was born there. It is a unique town, very special. The hotel is the same - unique and special. The room is spacious and great bed. Easy to park behind. Having dinner at the restaurant is not to be missed - we were luck to have pasta with white truffles. We recommend.

This hotel is a jewel! The location was beautiful overlooking the town of Asolo. The staff was so friendly and responsive to making our trip awesome. I asked that I be spoken to in Italian and Silvia and Elena, the owners and all the staff, were so patient and assisted me as I stumbled through the language. The room was beautiful and spacious (room 101). We ate every night (4) at the hotel restaurant because the service and food were great. The wines that were suggested by Elena were exquisite! Overall, I recommend this hotel without any reservation and we will return if we are in this part of Italy.

Very friendly staff and owners. Always happy to chat and help out with recommendations on our trips around the area. We took three dinners at the Albergo and were happy with the options and the wine list. The restaurant on the Saturday evening was fully booked (we had booked 2 months in advance) so the hotel booked us into the Due Mori in the town (see separate review but was absolutely wonderful with a mega quality winelist). Car parking is convenient, just behind the hotel up a quiet one-way lane and one can park the car in front of the hotel on arrival/departure for luggage. Breakfast at the hotel was of good standard also. Asolo is a gem of a town. Just be aware on arriving that there is a traffic light system that allows for alternate one-way entry/departure up Via Robert Browning as the streets are narrow. Clientele are a good mix (there were a few other Australians there at the same time as us), this is not a stuffy/arrogant hotel whatsoever and always purveys a friendly nature.
