Reviews for La Mision Hotel Boutique

Outstanding hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 15 hours ago

We stayed in this hotel in Asuncion for 6 days. In a word, the hotel is outstanding in every way. The staff at all levels were exceptionally courteous and helpful, the location within the city was very convenient for both shopping and sightseeing, and the executive double room was superb -spacious, elegant, with outstanding housekeeping with daily supplies of free water, and a large bathroom. The hotel’s ambience and decor are excellent. Minor points are that it would have been nice if the shower had been stronger and a box of tissues had ben supplied. The breakfasts were extremely impressive in terms of quality, volume and variety. The fruit was particularly good. Overall, we were enormously impressed with this hotel which is one of the finest we have ever stayed in, and we have travelled all over the world. Having stayed here, we can’t imagine ever choosing any other hotel in Asuncion in the future. We would highly recommend it.

A Beautiful Hotel With Serious Service and Professionalism Concerns

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I recently stayed at La Misión Hotel, and I can confidently say the property itself is the best I’ve experienced in Asunción, Paraguay. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are exceptional, and the overall environment is truly first-class. However, several service issues left me disappointed. A few days after booking, the hotel emailed me asking how they could assist. I replied with a few requests, including arranging a taxi pickup from the airport, but received no response. I sent a follow-up email days later and still heard nothing. This level of communication is concerning. During my stay, I ordered room service and waited a total of 1.5 hours. When I called to check on the order, I was told they had simply forgotten it. There was no apology, no effort to make it right, and no courtesy gesture—just “We forgot. Do you still want the food?” This is not the customer service one expects from any hotel. Perhaps most troubling, while I was on hold with the front desk, I overheard staff refer to me as “La Negra.” Hearing this from employees at a luxury hotel was shocking and deeply disappointing. It left me feeling disrespected in a place where professionalism should be the standard. La Misión is a beautiful hotel with incredible potential, but the staff’s communication, customer service, and cultural sensitivity need significant improvement. My hope is that management addresses these issues so the service can match the excellence of the property itself.

A Really Amazing Hotel

We spend several weeks in Asunción every year and have stayed in many different hotels, but this one is by far the best one we have ever found. We no longer even look for a different hotel when we visit Asunción. The first class service is noticeable from the very first moment you step into the hotel. Literally everyone, from the bellboys, to reception, to the maids, to the waiters and to reception, quickly learn your names and treat you like family. The ambiance, designed after the Jesuit missions in Paraguay, is very pleasant and comfortable. The rooms, especially the bathrooms, are spacious and well-furnished. There is plenty of light and there are even USB outlets and US and even English electrical outlets. The beds are so comfortable that they make us want to replace the ones we have at home. The breakfast buffet is spectacular, and it even includes a la carte items you can order, all of which is included. The hotel is also well-located. It is near good shopping and great restaurants. The hotel restaurant is also a very good choice, if you don't want to leave the hotel for meals.

Almost Perfect

La Mision might be the nicest hotel in Paraguay. Sitting in the affluent neighborhood of Recoleta (although some say it's in Villa Morra, a minor quibble since Villa Morra is also safe and affluent), its location is walkable to plenty of great restaurants and shopping. If you want the downtown sights, though, you'll need to take a car. I had no trouble finding Bolt rides when I wanted to go further afield, and Uber is apparently pretty well-embedded in Asuncion as well. I'd also recommend you take these services from the airport as well if you don't rent your own car like I did; it's about 30 minutes away, but the shuttle the hotel offered me was a stunning $60. Room cleanliness and design are on-par with highly-regarded boutique hotels anywhere else in the world. Service is over-the-top with attentiveness and pleasant interactions, from the security guard outside right on up to the managers. The door was held for me every time I came in or went out. When my flight landed too early to get an immediate check-in, the front desk clerk gave me advice on options to pass the time and then upgraded me when my room still wasn't ready after check-out time passed. English was well-spoken by all front desk staff and decently well by restaurant staff; you may need a little Spanish if you need to interact with the housekeepers. Honestly, it pains me to dock any stars from this hotel; only two minor issues keep it from a perfect rating, neither of which are the fault of its staff. First, the price point is just too high--at over $200 a night for the most basic room, it's far above the cost of other very nice properties in the area. Second, as an old building it lacks some of the quietness of modern constructions--there are frequent creaks and groans from pipes and elevators, and if you're a light sleeper street and construction noise may be an issue. If there was an option for 4.5 stars that's where I would settle.
