Fabulous hotel

Bravo! This is a fabulous luxury hotel in the center of Athens. Restaurants were fantastic as was the service throughout the hotel. Room was plush and extremely clean. Overall, one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed. We will return and let our friends know.

Unforgettable

Amazing hotel. The classic rooms are not large in size but the grandeur and amenities are superb. The pool area is also excellent. But without question the highlight is the view of the Acropolis from the level 8 restaurant. The restaurant can be used all day and for various purposes. We chose a cocktail at 5pm and back the next morning for a magnificent buffet breakfast with great food and attentive staff - oh and the view of course!

Stunning!!!

This hotel is STUNNING! From the moment you walk in the doors it feels as if one has gone back in time to another place. The marble floors and oversized furniture make it feel palace-like in the main areas as well as rooms. Simply spectacular!!

World class luxury hotel in ideal central location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A truly world class luxury hotel in a historic building in the central location of Athens overlooking the Hellenic Parliament and Syntagma Square with superb restaurants (especially the rooftop garden one), spa, service and views across the city. A great experience. Our only slight negative was a smallish room notwithstanding an upgraded rate.

Nice Hotel With Some Issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My wife and I spent four nights at the Athens Grande Bretagne in early May 2024. It's a nice, older hotel. It has a nice view of the Acropolis from the 8th floor restaurant. The hotel is in a good part of town, just across the street from the Parliament building. We had a room facing outward from the hotel, towards the Parliament building. I always felt safe walking in the area. The room has all the normal amenities you’d expect in a luxury hotel, including a coffee maker, a mini-bar, a comfortable bed, nice linens and towels, etc. The room was fairly small, including the bathroom, which had one sink and a tub shower. Tub showers in a hotel are something I consider a real negative compared to a walk-in shower. We're getting older and it's too easy to slip and fall getting in and out of a tub. Just standing on that slippery round bottom of the tub leaves you unsteady, and the hotel didn’t even have a grab bar in the shower area (they had one low for a person sitting in the tub). I'll take comfort and safety over charm any day. The other problem I encountered was trying to get the hotel to respond to a reasonable request. We had four suitcases (two checked and two carry-on) but there was only one luggage stand and it was big enough for two suitcases. We requested two additional luggage stands so that we wouldn’t have to get down on the floor to access our suitcases. Next, we had a balcony, but the door was locked and required a key to open it. I requested that someone come and open it. Third, we requested a rubber mat for the tub to give better traction in the tub. I made these requests to the porters when they brought the luggage up and they assured us someone would be up shortly to take care of the requests. We waited but no one showed up. The next morning, I took a piece of paper with the three requests written on it to the reception desk and discussed the requests with a gentleman there. He assured me someone would take care of it. Nothing happened. We went out during the day and when we returned, we went to the reception desk and made the same requests again. This time someone did come up to the room with the luggage stands and rubber mat and opened the lock on the door. I felt that was a bit excessive for a hotel like the Grande Bretagne. On the good side, the staff was otherwise excellent and the breakfast in the 8th floor restaurant was very good. Of the issues, the most serious was the tub shower. I’d definitely look for a hotel with a walk-in shower next time.

I traveled to Greece in June of 2004 and had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Grande Bretagne after its multimillion-dollar renovation. The hotel was absolutely impeccable in every way. Our room was palatial, the service was fantastic and the dinner we enjoyed at the rooftop restaurant was truly an evening to remember with the fantastic view of the Acropolis.

My experience with the Grande Bretagne exceeded my expectations on every account. The hotel was beautiful and the room was amazing. Dinner was exceptional - definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Greece.
