Cordis Hotel Auckland Letdown

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

My wife and I, along with a friend, traveled to Auckland a day before our cruise departure in order to acclimate to the time change and relax after spending just under 19 hours flying in. We were happy with the reviews of the hotel and were also looking forward walking about Auckland for the day as our time in the city was short. Our room was ready on arrival so we dropped off our bags and headed down to the recommended in house “Eight Restaurant Level One.” The doors were closed and staff inside said that the restaurant was closed and to eat in the Chandelier Lounge. What we saw people eating looked good, but what they had was not on the menus we were given. When asked, we were told that diners were eating selections from their old menu, but that menu was not available to order from. We settled on some other items and then were told that the chef was very backed up and that we might have a delay in getting served. Appreciated the explanation and agreed to eat there anyway. The servers were terrific and food good but hotel management should have been on top of all of these issues. After lunch we planned to take the shuttle to the waterfront for sightseeing. Unfortunately a group had filled the vehicle, leaving only 2 seats available for three people, so we walked downtown. After coming back to the hotel, our plan was to take showers, watch some TV and turn in early as our luggage would need to be out in the hallway at 0800. Turned on the TV and guess what - NO TV! Front desk said no service until tomorrow maybe, but we are leaving, so no help there. At least we could take a hot shower and relax, but guess what - NO HOT WATER. Someone from maintenance came up to the room around 9 pm and said sorry, will need to have someone work on it tomorrow. So no showers tonight or in the morning. Thought about ordering room service in the morning, but no in room guide with menus and hotel information, and with non functioning TVs, nothing to look at to order from. In short, staff were very hospitable and friendly but after this experience I could not recommend this hotel as there are several other equally nice places to stay that for the price in Auckland. I worked for Canadian Pacific Hotels in the past and their management would never overlook so many things that would lead to an unsatisfactory hotel stay.

We had a very last minute 2 nights away at the Cordis. Out stay was everything we wanted & the room, facilities & staff far exceeded our expectation. We also received a lovely free upgrade of our room which was super nice of the Cordis team.
