Travaasa Austin in Austin, Texas

Travaasa Austin may be only 30 minutes from the capital, but in Hill Country it's a different world completely. Come to Travaasa – which derives its name from travel and pravaasa, the Sanskrit word for "memorable journey" – for self-discovery and for meaningful, authentic experiences with Texans who want to share their beloved countryside. Come to feel the wind in your hair while hiking through a field of bluebells, to become one with your breath in a grove of anacua trees, and to Texas Two-Step under the stars.

Heal your soul with the spa's essential oils and plant-based treatments. Dig into a plate of French toast made from agave-sweetened polenta and cabernet cranberries. As the sun bakes the rugged hills, take a hike with an ecologist through shaded trails to Lake Travis, learning about the area's flora and fauna. Strike up a bond with a Palomino filly, taking her for a gentle ride as chickens scurry through the fields of the organic farm. Cuddle up by the fire pit with a bottle of wine.

My friend from NY and I (from San Francisco) meet up every so often and try to find a place in the middle to get away. Travaasa Austin was our pick this time around - and it was the perfect getaway. You can either do an all-inclusive or pick the a la carte option. We spent some very high quality time lounging by the gorgeous pool (a part of it is infinity-style) - notice to all those who like lukewarm pools - this one was bracingly fresh. I don't like cold pools, but this one was cool enough to lower my temperature on a very hot and humid day, while not driving me out of the pool after a few seconds. In other words, lovely. There is a pool bar, where you can get an array of snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The restaurant is wonderful - fresh, seasonal food made with ingredients from the resort's own garden. The menu changes daily (yay for those who eat multiple times at the restaurant like we did) and the restaurant is open all day (good news for those folks who eat at non-traditional hours). The room was beautiful - we got a canyon view and between our windows' views and the small balcony with chairs and table outside our door, it was mesmerizingly peaceful. Beds were sinfully comfortable, and the a/c and overhead fan kept the temperature at a steady perfect temperature for sleeping. Shower was great - rain shower or hand-held - both worked well. The activities (of which we did not partake much, but many of which are included in the price) are interesting - including things like archery, mechanical bull riding and hatchet throwing. Maybe next time. And there WILL be a next time. The spa is gorgeous - and my hydrating cocoon wrap (with scalp massage!) was heavenly. And finally, a word about the staff. They are terrific- special shout out to Phil, our server extraordinaire at the restaurant (thanks for taking care of us!), and Edward the sommelier, who is a top notch wine professional who also happens to be delightful company. This was as close to perfect as it gets!

This hotel is for 16 years and up only. This was not specified clearly when we booked and we were not allowed to stay. The location is beautiful and the staff were very helpful even though they wouldn't let us in. FYI if you are planning a family trip.

I previously wrote a review regarding the customer service on the phone during several calls leading up to my stay. I was ready to cancel. However, Im glad I didnt. We had such a lovely time during our weekend stay despite a crazy thunderstorm and still never really ran out of things to do. We did eat off property one night because we are night owls and the restaurateur closes at 9. Our room and view was lovely, and all of the staff for our experiences were awesome and very fun. Also, Andrea the concierge is great too. We will be coming back.

Spent a long day, then night, and another long day at this 20-25 minutes from downtown Austin world class resort. A varied, lengthy list of activities from morning throughout the day, great pool area with a view, large hot tub, and bar, and a restaurant with a great view (and great healthy food options) add to the experience. Comfortable, well-furnished room, with a cozy terrace. Super comfortable bed. The wooded grounds and common areas are wonderful. A couple of trails, not particularly long or scenic, but nice nonetheless, to hike. Interesting farm that is responsible for great eggs and produce served on sight. We took two cooking classes with Marko (for an extra charge). Crepes and Mexican flavors. Both excellent and practical tips provided. And, wonderful food to eat as part of each class! Marko is a special teacher. Alison W gave us a tour of the farm, then provided my wife and I with a memorable horse whisperer experience. She was amazing and is one of many super-friendly attendants/employees at a place where everyone -- yes everyone -- was a cut above good. All staff were great and appeared to love working at this place. We've travelled extensively and to have a resort like this in our area was an incredible find for us -- even though it's been around for years. A must go to experience. Pricey. Worth it! But, arrive at 9 am and leave at 5 pm (despite check-in and check-out times) to take in the complete experience. Note - View from the restaurant patio at dusk worth experiencing.

I have a service dog. They were accomodating and very welcoming. The rooms were quiet and if you didn't feel like walking, there was always a cart to take you around the grounds. The staff were very attentive, I felt like royalty there.
