EPIC resort - we LOVED every minute at this property!! Staff and ski concierge were top notch. We stayed there for 4 nights and we were pampered from beginning to end. We'll be back next year!

Not a Ritz Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I don’t usually take the time to write about our experiences at hotels, but there was just so much about our experience at The Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch, that I felt it was necessary. To begin I’d like to say that we are frequent travelers and guests at many Ritz Carlton properties along with other competing luxury brands. My overall experience with the Ritz brand has always been five star with very few exceptions. The biggest common denominator has always been the exemplary service and the staff’s willingness to go above and beyond. To me, that is why you pay to stay at a Ritz Carlton property, especially when there are so many other luxury options to choose from. To our great dismay, that was very far from the experience we had at Bachelor Gulch over the past 6 days. Although the list of examples is very long, I will try to highlight only the most impactful issues we faced. I will also note that we traveled with a larger group of friends that comprised an additional three rooms, who also shared many of the same frustrations and disappointments. We stayed in a suite connected to an additional double room. From the day we arrived our keys did not work. Over the course of our stay our key cards were replaced at least five times. On the third day of our stay, my daughter went up to the suite but could not get in any of the doors. After alerting the Front Desk she waited over 20 minutes for help! When non arrived, my wife went to the Reception only to be told that nobody had reported a problem! Maintenance finally went by, and. we were advised there was a mechanical issue with the physical locks. We assumed it had been fixed, but that was not the case. Only one of our THREE doors worked and upon reporting it to the Front Desk, the only suggestion was to again replace the keys. No one ever checked up or did anything more to try to fix the problem. Time after time, day after day, venue after venue we also encountered a tremendous lack of staff to accommodate the guests. Whether it was being short staffed or out of something, the same lame excuse was given countless times, that it was the end of the season. As a businessman, I understand the economics of running a profitable operation, but frankly this terrible excuse is unacceptable! If the Ritz cannot appropriately staff or supply the resort, it should not have accepted our reservation. This is something I would expect to hear at a basic Marriot, Hilton or Hyatt, not a Ritz Carlton. The fact that this excuse was repeated over and over shows that it is not an isolated incident but a culture and lack of training. The lack of training and the absence of the typical Ritz Carlton service was also evident at the ski side outdoor bar. On one occasion a cold drink was spilled on my wife and I. Something that was obviously an accident and understood. The problem, however, was in the reaction of the server. She showed no concern and didn’t even offer napkins or anything to help dry our wet hair and backs! On a different occasion, member of our party had been in the bathroom when last call was announced. Upon his return, when the bill was brought, he politely asked if it was possible to get a last beer only to be curtly told that she had already announced last call! Where is the Ritz Carlton willingness to make guests happy? Obviously not at Bachelor Gulch. Then to be consistent, on the morning of our departure I called for our luggage to be picked up. After waiting over 15 minutes my wife went down to see what the problem was. When the very nice bellman finally arrived at our suite he apologized and explained that the Front Desk never alerted the Bell Desk! To be fair, not everything was a terrible disappointment. Will at the Ski Valet was excellent and always rushing to make sure all guests were taken care of. This was no easy feat given the lack of sufficient staff here as well. Even though the Ski Valer experience here was subpar compared to other luxury ski resorts where a large team helped put on boots and had your skis and poles waiting on the snow, Will always gave 200%. Johnny at WYLD was also fantastic along with the woman at the market in the morning. Overall, this has been a terribly disappointing experience that will not easily be forgotten. I can only suggest that alot of training is needed.

I didn’t think I booked my family at Ibiza

our entire stay has been tainted by the belligerent apres ski scene. We traveled with our children expecting a family vacation. Our room is directly next to the outside bar which has club music playing 24/7. Every time we complained the management claimed our view could not be beat. The view is pretty but we could never relax because of the noise. The walls quite literally thud due to the volume. The DJ in particular was exceedingly loud and played lyrics like let’s get f naked. So inappropriate. The ritz clearly cares more about the insta opportunity for drunk 20 somethings more than the experience of paying guests.

Disappointed

We recently stayed at the ritz Carlton bachelors Gulch for our kids mid winter break. It was our first time in Colorado , but we have stayed in ritz Carlton’s in California and Toronto. With our precious ritz experiences we were sure to have an expectional stay . With a hotel that Charges 1000++ it should be nothing other than exceptional. I have attached photos of a meal we had at buffalos located in the hotel. It is a salad/grain bowl. As my husband was eating it he noticed that a couple chick peas looked molded. When I pointed it out to the waitress she looked surprised and took it to the kitchen , came back only to tell me they would never serve something like that and that’s how they marinate them? No there is blue and green all over the chick peas. Not only was the meal unacceptable, but the response? If your costumer is questioning they are eating mold that is a problem!
