As soon as we got off a very long flight from Sydney Australia (With a transit in Dubai) over 17 hours of flying excluding transiting, we were told that the sea plane wasn't working and along with 4 other people were transferred to a 4 star hotel (NO REFUND WAS PROVIDED FOR THE 1 NIGHT SPENT THERE). The next day we were taken by sea plane to the property, at this stage we were already angry but we didn't want to vent our anger out and wreck such an expensive stay in the Maldives. The hotel property manager told us 'don't worry your refund will be processed for the one night in the 3 star hotel and we will give you a complimentary spa access for every single one of your family member to use.' NONE of this happened. NONE Everytime i asked to speak to the property manager the unprofessional staff at the reception who had no clue what was happening would always say he is busy. The most disappointing thing was the property manager met us when we were boarding the sea plan, we honestly thought this was all a joke. The proper manager said he would call us to sort everything out however it has been three months we have not received an email or a call. At leat knowledge the amount of money we spent. The service should reflect it?

We stayed seven nights in early February 2018 at the Coco Palm and give it five stars without hesitation. It is excellent value for money. Atmosphere: Coco Palm is on a very small island with some 100 villas, 110km NW of Malé. It is a 30 mins flight by sea plane. The hotel comprises the entire island so it has an intimate feeling, but there is plenty of space so you never feel crowded. There is an immense culture of service, and nothing is ever too much trouble for any of the staff who are smiley and willing. You are formally met by a "reception committee" on the pier to greet you as you arrive, who similarly wave goodbye to you as you leave. The clientele is culturally mixed with probably only one quarter having English as their first language – typically there are Russians, Italians, French, and Chinese. The only criticism, which is not the hotel’s fault, is that many of the guests make little effort to scrub up for dinner. So if you are looking for elegance in the evening where guests make something of an effort, you need to go for a more expensive hotel. Rooms: The rooms are functional and simply decorated in style, with ample sockets (UK type 3 pin sockets and 240v), cupboard space and twin basins. The lagoon villa rooms are more modern. All the rooms have wi-fi – in fact there is wi-fi practically everywhere on the island. The choice of villa is really critical if you want the right holiday for you, so more comments below. Food: The quality and choice of food is absolutely outstanding. The main dining room is huge. There is a stir-fry at the “live station” every lunch with a choice of meat, endless choices of fish, and an abundance of sushi. The dining staff are very polite. It really is one of the highlights of Coco Palm. Villa choices: To make the most of your holiday you need to make sure that you get the villa that is right for you. There are six villa types on their website, but in practical terms think of it as four: Lagoon Villas (on stilts); Sunset Beach Villas (set back, west facing that get the sunset); Deluxe Villas (set back, east facing and get the sun in the morning); and Beach Villas (on the beach, east facing, some of which are right at the edge of the sea and called "Ocean Front"). The important point to grasp is that the beach on the east side of the island is very heavily eroded. You can see this from looking at Google Maps or Google Earth. It is notable that some people who opted for the Deluxe Villas (all of which are on the east side) have complained in reviews about the lack of beach and the sight of sandbags. You also get a lot of wind on this side, and the sea can be quite rough, although it is the best side for snorkelling. You get about three hours of sun in the morning and that is it. So if you want to lie on a lounger on the sand, and get a decent amount of sun, you must go for a Sunset Beach Villa. If you want total privacy, lots of shade, do not want to lie on the beach, want to avoid the sun and do not mind quite a bit of wind, go for the Deluxe Villas. We stayed in a Deluxe Villa and had we had our time again we would definitely have gone for a Sunset Beach Villa, which is the same price. Another point is that the bars are on the West/South side of the island, and it is a good 10 mins walk from the Deluxe Villas to the West side of the island to get a drink, whereas the bars are much closer to the Sunset Beach Villas. Luggage: A word of warning here. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) run the air transfer from Male to the hotel in a small seaplane, which is hugely enjoyable. But just as we were about to board, they pulled a fast one on us asking us to sign a piece of paper stating that because of the weight of the luggage overall that one of our bags would follow on the next flight which would be "in a couple of hours". It must have been a lottery as our bag that was pulled was only 15.7KG. We were fine with it as we were OK to wait a couple of hours. But they were not being honest. The bag arrived 8 hours later at 6:30pm so we lost a whole afternoon with no swimming gear or clothes that we wanted to change into, which spoilt our first day. So make sure you pack basic swimming stuff in your hand luggage. And TMA goes to right to the bottom of the class with a very black mark for being dishonest. Service: While the service is good, when you have lunch or dinner, or go to one of the bars, expect to wait around 10 – 15 minutes for a drink. While the overall level of service at the hotel is excellent, for some reason they are extremely slow at bringing drinks, and on a couple of occasions we found ourselves going back to them to ask if they had forgotten about the order. All-inclusive: We would recommend that you take the "all-inclusive" package, as the cost of dinners and cocktails is expensive. Although the terms of the all-inclusive package appear very complex, in essence, the drinks on the “all inclusive” list at the bars and dining rooms are included, and there are off-set allowances for the various types of beach dinners or lunches/dinners if not in the main dining room. It does not include the mini-bar in the room, and you are not able to take drinks back to your room.

We enjoyed everything about the island, great accommodation, food and staff. All the staff, and I mean everyone we met was so friendly, polite and enthusiastic. Everything was very well organised, nothing was too much if you made a request for anything. Plenty to keep you occupied. A lovely setting with a wonderful atmosphere.

Was really impressed by the resort and the facilities available on site. My husband and I went to Coco Palm for our honeymoon. He wanted to sit on a beach and read, I was nervous because I am used to more adventurous holidays, I did not want to get bored. But what a pleasant surprise! There was a sports and diving centre, as well as a turtle conservation centre. The sports centre rent you snorkelling equipment free of charge for the whole of your stay. Plenty to keep you busy. The resort had a whole list of activities as extras, we partook in a trip to a local fishing island to see how the locals lived and a snorkelling trip to two different islands. There were movie nights and BBqs on the beach, the bar offered food all day as well as Shisha. The spa experience was to die for, highly recommend getting a treatment there. The restaurant was larger than expected, with several different cuisines available to cater for everyone. The food was changed everyday and the chefs were extremely talented an skilled. The breakfast buffet! Drooool. The staff and service was lovely. Everybody was so nice from housekeeping to reception. They were extremely helpful and willing to go out of their way for you. And just the Island itself, clear waters, white sands, beautiful weather. What more could you want?
