Soneva Fushi is quite simply the perfect island getaway!! We just got back from a week's stay where we have been treated to exceptional service, great experiences, beautiful accommodations and glorious food! We were booked into Villa 31 which is a two-bedroom villa complete with our own pool and stretch of pristine beach, two porches and a swing sofa overlooking the sea beyond. Days were spent lounging at the pool, swimming in the sea, snorkelling, playing in The Den with our little girl and relaxing in the spa with wonderful treatments. What we loved most: The staff ° They really are amazing and provided some of the best service we have ever come across. Our Ms Friday who took care of us all week, Ajju, went above and beyond to cater to all of our needs and requests. The Den ° Truly paradise for the little ones. Complete with a water slide, lego room, dress up room, music room and amazing staff! The food ° Simply delicious. The breakfasts and lunches are hard to beat! Our favourites were the fresh fruits, sashimi, and stir fries made to order. The ice-cream room ° No embellishments needed. Simply delicious.

I loved every minute of my stay at Soneva Fushi. This is the second time I have stayed - the first time was two years ago with my family. As before, I found myself smiling the whole time and feeling wave after wave of joy surge through my body at each knew magical surprise that I experienced at this extraordinary place. The food was not just luxurious - it was spell-binding. Flavours of such intensity and pleasure as I have rarely tasted in a lifetime of travel around the world. Everything I ate was the best of the best, from scrumptious mushrooms grown on the island wrapped in a melting ravioli served in asparagus soup, to home-made ice creams of such delight that, had I let myself, I could have tasted new flavours three times each day and still gone back for more. Also, I have dived and snorkelled all over the world - I have never been anywhere where the snorkelling I experienced was as good as at Soneva Fushi, and just off the jetty. And going on a guided trip around an exceptional coral reef with a marine biologist was another highlight. Sitting under the stars watching a movie (Good Will Hunting in my case) at an open air cinema, was unforgettable. The level of care and the attention to detail I was offered was impeccable. Imagine Claridges, but in the tropics. Having a dedicated member of staff to attend to one's every request (they call them Fridays at Soneva) was very spoiling. Seasoned travellers know that the exceptional experience is in the detail. At Soneva Fushi, everything is done with a clear commitment to excellence, with no request being too much and responded to rapidly - from bespoke tailoring to child care to a luxury picnic on a nearby dessert island. Most of all, was the rapid release of stress I experienced. The whole feel of the place was intoxicating - the 'slow life' philosophy they embody (the vision of the founders whose names are combined in Soneva - Sonu and Eva) actually worked wonders. Like everywhere in the tropics, there were some mosquitos (take good insect repellent) but no scary spiders or snakes to worry about. And some guests had a few days of rain the week before I stayed - the weather was gorgeous the whole of the week I was there. Two years ago I stayed with my wife and two children and had an equally fantastic experience. My boys particularly loved getting to know the island and racing around on bicycles, completely safe but having a fantastic adventure and making new friends. This time, travelling alone, within a couple of days, I felt completely relaxed and lavishly cared for by all the staff, who were a collective smiling delight. To my great surprise I started to cry as I left. My whole being wanted to stay longer......

We visited Fushi the last week of november 2017, we had a beachvilla with plunge pool (no.59) at the sunset coast. Arrival: We arrived with Emirates at Male Airport (recently renamed to Velana Airport, airport is being redeveloped by a chinese company, a complete new runway for the airbus 380 and a complete new arrival/departure building) after customs we were accompanied by the staff of Soneva to the counter of TMA, the local seaplane company (recently mergered with MAT, now one company with 44 Twin Otters, owned by Blackstone, a USA investment company) after check-in, they brought us together with others to the the waitingroom of Soneva, after about 30 minutes we were ready to leave, so the whole procedure from arriving with emirates to leave again with TMA took about 90 minutes. The whole flight with TMA, with a short stop to drop other passengers, took about 40 minutes. At Fushi we had a warm welcome by the management and our “mr Friday” (Maroof) The check-in procedure for Soneva was already fixed in Male in the waitingroom. The Villa The Villa is really comfortable, with almost all the needs you can have. The villa is rather quite old and maybe it may need some refurbishment. There is a small flatcreen TV and a Bose soundsystem, with iphone/ipod connector with even speakers in the outdoor bathroom. If you like to have music on the beach or terrace, I suggest to bring your own Bluetooth speaker. For the tv set is a special apple cable to connect your device to the TV and Bose system. The minibar is well stocked, our fridge had a minor problem for cooling lower then 10 degrees. The bed is really high, you almost need a staircase to get in bed at night. The plungepool is filled with salt water. The view is rather limited from the villa, on the beach you have the view on Eyadfushi, a rapidly expanding island with more than 2500 inhabitants, they call it little Male (…) At this moment you can see 2 large telecomtowers and many buildings among which a few mosques. Because of the extreme rainy weather the airco was not able to fix the 100% moisture in the room, after a few days, even our clothes and the bed was really moist. The island The island is really nice, it’s almost a jungle, very green and moist. Soneva is doing their utmost to maintain the island. At this moment (nov 2017) there are a lot of construction works going on, on the island, they are replacing and moving the dive school, they are building a new restaurant/bar and the sunset side to replace the small Barabra bar, which views are spoiled now by the expanding island at the other side. Their is also a program for refurbishing old villas and building giant new ones in a kind of sale-and-lease back system, some villas have a price of over 15 million dollars. When we compare Fushi to Four Seasons (just around the corner), Four Seasons wins. The island of FS is cleaner, better maintained and maybe “more paradise” The weather Sadly we had a week of many clouds, (heavy) wind and lots of rain, this was quite unusual and has to do with the climatechange that is going on world wide. So we missed a lot of nice adventures, because it was impossible to do because of the bad weather conditions. The Spa The spa is really an asset. Great therapists, in our week Traye from South Africa was working here and he did a great yoga class and wonderfull massages. The building of the spa needs a instant refurbishment. The treatments are staggering expensive. The guests Although the management told us they had a 80% occupancy, it did not seem so to us, we think it was probably around 40%. A mix from germans, italians, chinese, russians, british and indian. A lot of families with small children. The kindergarten (“the den”) We have never seen in our life such a nice kindergarten! That big and special, we think this is a unique selling point for families with little children to go to Fushi Overpriced Most of the excursions and activities are really overpriced, see other reviews for details. Soneva is a marketing cash machine. Snorkling There has been massive coral bleaching around the Maldives a few years ago, probably caused by El Nino. So there is nothing left… But snorkeling for nice colourful fish is still good, especially near the Barabra bar on the reef. The gym The gymbuilding is in the dark jungle with NO views, crazy. The equipment is modern and clean. Internet In the villa and in the bar. Rather slow, only 1 mb up and down wireless Overall view Recommendations: Bring your own led torches from home, could be useful on this island Bring a BT speaker Soneva: please more attention for the rooms daily, like flowers, fruitbasket, something special in the evening on your bed, lit some candles, those little things makes your resort more special Soneva: Give your employees a namebadge, that is so convenient for the guests. And, like at the Four Seasons, train your staff in learning guestnames, so they stop asking for your villanumber
