We took a post high school graduation trip to the Ritz Carlton in Bal Harbour. Originally we were going to the Fontainbleau up the road in Miami Beach but instead opted for the quiet elegance of the Ritz. Boy are we glad we did! The staff could not have been any nicer. The pool was great and the beach was quiet - probably due to the time of year and gusting winds. The location is a bit far from South Beach but otherwise a perfect location from which to enjoy the area. We did have dinner one night at the Fontainbleau - crazy busy place - glad we weren't there for the week.

Beautiful location, boasting all you desire from a Luxury South Florida beach front hotel. Offering service and class beyond what you would expect. The beauty of the hotel, the rooms and the grounds are wonderful. By far the staff will make your trip memorable. Tending to all of our needs, they ensured our only afternoon we had poolside was delightful. We can't wait to return.

We loved everything about the hotel!! They made us felt we were right at home and attended to everything that we needed. It was a quick trip to celebrate my fiance birthday which I didn't plan it well due to the last minute change of location. It only spoke volume when they had to manage all of my requests within minutes! We will be back to this hotel very soon.

Exceptional stay from start to finish. Everything one would expect from a Ritz property. Unfortunately, it rained every day of our six day stay, however, the staff was so friendly and accommodating at every turn. We anxiously await our next visit to the Ritz Carlton Bal Harbour.

We stole away here for a big anniversary by ourselves. We are low maintenance travelers, but we like our space, views, and the opportunity to de-stress on the beach. We flew to MIA and drove a rental car here. While Bal Harbour is small, having a car is convenient to access Bal Harbour, Surfside, and Miami Beach proper should you so choose. The hotel is at the far north end of the island. It's among several high end hotels and condo buildings. We were really up for just about nothing, and this is a relaxing destination to do exactly that. We had an "ocean view suite" on the north side of the hotel which was cavernous. There were two balconies, one small one facing the reception drive which looked out over the island and IC and the other main balcony facing the IC, a pretty good size boat channel, Haulover Park & Sunny Isles Beach, and the Atlantic. We rented a daybed on the beach. Much better option than the Cabanas which are actually poolside. One can use recliners and umbrellas that are covered under the resort fee, but the daybed is a nice upgrade. Food service is available for lunch until beach service winds down around 5-6pm. There are both a Publix and a CVS close by which are handy for stocking the large fridge with food & beverage. While the suite has a full kitchen, you have to request pots & pans if you mean to cook (we didn't). We mainly used the microwave for tea/coffee, reheating restaurant food, and 4-slice toaster for breakfast. The beach is suited for tourists as it is raked and smoothed and has seaweed removed daily. The azure waters are quite clear and warm (80 degrees in late May). There is a jetty at the north end of the beach which locals use to fish but which also provides a surf break and kept waves in the shallow pool of water out to the deeper boating zone calm. Passing speedboats can kick up a wake and give you "surf" of 2-4 feet but nothing too rough. Many families choose RC for the Ritz Kids program which is also offered here. We saw families at the pool and beach, but by and large the kids were well behaved and spent time with their families, not running roughshod over the grounds. Your mileage may vary. The unique layout with semi-private elevators also provides a degree of separation from other guests. Road noise from the coastal highway is noticeable but not troubling on a middle floor. A fair amount of audible flavor floats up from both the park and boats, providing a varied soundtrack for the neighborhood. Dining on the balcony with this accompaniment is pleasant with only the occasional self-important passing speedboat blaring NSFW rap. If you're in the resort state of mind it's hard to care too much about that. This is certainly the quiet end of Miami Beach. South Beach is accessible but overcrowded, overpriced ($25 for a watered down drink anyone?), and popular with an overly wide swath of humanity. There were two or three shootings in South Beach during our four-night stay. We ventured down that direction exactly once and immediately regretted it. The lines to valet and retrieve our car required an hour EACH. We did partake of Beach dining and found it to be good for light snacks like ceviche, yuca, and fresh fruit. We did not use the spa services. If you're slightly adventurous you can wander down to 71st-74th streets for authentic South American or Cuban cuisine. If you want to dine outside, make sure to either bring mosquito repellent or wear long pants. Mosquitos were not a problem on the grounds or at the beach, presumably due to aggressive control being practiced all over Miami-Dade. There are also a variety of interesting shops and streetside cafes in Surfside. Note: this is Miami Beach, many are closed for Shabbat on Saturday. As far as service goes, the staff is attentive and responsive without being overbearing. We did have to ask twice for some things, but they were always offered with a smile. We required early afternoon maid service and it was no problem. We are not often return visitors, usually choosing to sample different amenities at different properties, but for a low-key and easy vacation, we would return to this hotel. We have vacationed at several beach locations on the Atlantic coast of Florida, and this experience was the best of all.
