In the fashion of a traditional Balinese village â€" with the addition of modern luxuries, of course â€" the tranquil Alila Ubud resort helps to center mind, body and spirit. Its stunning architecture captures contemporary design philosophy while incorporating traditional elements of style. Cradled along the banks of the Ayung River within lush Balinese foothills, guests retreat into a collection of the resort's chic rooms and freestanding, stilt-supported villas. The juxtaposition of contrasting elements creates a uniquely timeless feel, with contemporary concrete appointments beneath conventional thatched roofs, or modern terrazzo tiles beside aged and crushed rock. Expect all the lavish comforts of an exclusive resort, like private terraces and clandestine courtyards, open-air bathrooms and airy showers, private plunge pools and secluded sundecks, to name a few.

Elegant hotel on the banks of the Ayung river with jungle surrounding the resort. Our room looked out onto the jungle and we felt very removed from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Room could do with some noise reduction from the top floor. Pool is idyllic with view down the valley and lots of monkeys early in the morning acting as spectators. There are lots of stairs so one needs to be fairly mobile and happy walking up and down stairs . Food was 5 stars and we enjoyed each meal. A quiet retreat from the traffic of Ubud.

Stayed here 4 nights. Received a pool villa after using a suite upgrade from Hyatt. Room was nice enough, although the hotel is certainly showing it's age. The property is in the jungle, and it shows. Tons of bugs and creatures can and will find their way into the room on a regular basis. Monkeys are plentiful in and around the property... watched them on the wall outside our villa one day as they jumped into the neighboring villa and hung around and jumped into our pool. Views of the valley are nice and breakfast is served overlooking the jungle. Breakfast was a rotating selection of items each day, which was nice, and were smallish plates that you could order at much as you wanted. Service was friendly and fairly efficient. The property is a solid 25 minutes by car from ubud, so if you want to go anywhere for dinner or other activities, you are needing to get a driver, taxi, grab, etc. Had dinner on the property once from convenience and it was fine. Reasonably priced for a hotel and the food was good. Overall, not a bad property but not without faults. If you want to be out in the middle of nowhere and want the experience of being closer to nature and away from the city and such, it's a solid choice for the price.

What a wonderful hotel. This truly felt like a luxury experience. The hotel is so peaceful, set amongst the rice fields and some jungle areas. Its quite a small hotel and all the guests chatted to each other so it made it a really welcoming place. It is so calm that you immediately relax and start enjoying the holiday. All the staff are friendly and smiling, the rooms are clean and have exactly what you need. the food is great and a good mix of European and Indonesian. There was even the entertainment of monkey raids at around 4pm every day - so make sure you eat any food before they arrive - its not threatening - just funny. cannot recommend highly enough and would love to go back one day - Thank you to all the staff at Hotel Alila.

This hotel is beautiful and tranquil and perfect for a few nights retreat and relaxation. It feels in the middle of nowhere, there are monkeys, amazing views and the most delicious food. It was all perfect. Rooms have everything you need, balconies to look over the jungle and umbrellas incase of rain hehe! The pool is a bit chilly but a welcome dip from the hot sun, service around the pool is very good. Not the cheapest here but what is expected. We attended the spice night which was fantastic and worth every penny, such a fun night and the food was amazing.
