Amandari in Bali, Indonesia

Designed to mirror a traditional Balinese village, Amandari blends luxury with insight into everyday local life. The name means "peaceful spirits," and you'll indeed find soothing for your soul as you linger in this idyllic property set on an escarpment overlooking the Auying River Gorge. Relax in the open-air lobby designed after a wantilan--village meeting place--or unwind in the spa, where open-air bales surrounded by a lotus pond seem to float peacefully above the water.

Here, just outside the country's artistic capital of Ubud, sumptuous accommodations climb the scale of lavishness to reach a pinnacle in the five-pavilion Amandari Villas with its own two-tiered swimming pool. Crafted largely of teak, The Restaurant opens onto fresh breezes as it gazes over the green-tiled pool and gorge. Between savoring appetizing nibbles and indulgent spa treatments, escape to the trio of modest shrines at the sacred spring-fed pool nestled between the resort and river below.

The Aman group has always set some of the highest standards in world class resorts, the Amandari wears that badge in beautiful tropical splendor. Upon entering the villa, you smell a wonderfully woody scent that comes from the thatching that they use in the roof. Each come elegantly appointed with floor to ceiling teak and teak furniture, a private garden and your own plunge pool. Service is efficient and discreet. The hotel's grounds, especially the lobby, is beautifully lit at night. Though the property is officially in Kedewatan. The famous Ubud Town center is but a ten minute car ride away.

The property is situated in an incredible location overlooking the lush Ayung River Valley. Our visit happened to coincide with the eruption of Mt Agung which closed the DPS airport. As the other reviews note, the service here is incredible - but it really made a difference when we decided to leave Bali and make our way to the nearest open airport - located 14 hours away via car-ferry-car in Surabaya, Java. While the entire staff pitched in to help, Asrami did an amazing job arranging all the complicated logistics for the trip, including having the car stocked with breakfast for our 3am departure. Everything went off without a hitch. We should mention that before we left we enjoyed the spa, one of the best you’ll experience, and dinner specially prepared by Nick the head chef. When the going gets tough - a great staff really makes a difference. Thank you, Amandari!

I was here to help my friend Jessica with delapan wedding Bali to assist Ario and Ranggani Wedding couple weeks ago. I was taking part as Person In Charge for show and floor director. The staff is an amazing person, they were very helpful. It made my job so easier . This place is absolutely recommended to do your wedding day especially if you are blocking all the room. Can't wait to do another wedding to this venue...such an busy experience to do lovely thing in lovely place.

We spent a lovely three days in a leadership offsite at the Amandari and there is something very serene and calming about this place. All in all, resort was very good, service attentive and the food excellent. However, I spent the first night in villa 9 was great. It was a walled off compound that felt stuffy and claustrophobic. It didn't help that the villa was a duplex and the bedroom in the attic was small, dark and cramped. Really didn't enjoy it. I was constantly awoken almost every hour by a crowing rooster and a barking dog. On the second night, I was moved to Villa 14, which was absolutely heavenly. It has a breathtaking view of the valley with a nice size pool. The bedroom and living room was also on one level which made everything feel bright, airy, spacious and luxurious. Also the location was not immediately next to the reception so there was no noise and I slept like a baby. So my tip - choose the valley views with the pool. The garden villas are a far cry and quite a disappointment, but the valley view villas are out of this world. It's like night and day!

Whether it is your first Aman property or your 30th, Amanda will not fail to impress. The second property of the Man group, now 29 years old isn't showing its age. The timeless setting, perched on the edge of a lush valley with fantastic awe-inspiring views feels like you have stepped in to a movie set from years ago. This intricate balinese village is almost all you could want from a trip to Bali, set an hour to two away from the airport (dependant on traffic) is situated away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud, allowing guests to dip in and out of the 'Eat Pray Love' yoga scene as much as they want. The villas and buildings are beautifully crafted, and our villa, 24, looked out on to the gardens is the epitome of balinese authenticity. The grounds, buildings and infinity pool are reason enough to visit, but by far, the quiet, understated and professional service speaks volumes here. We've never seen such perfection in service, attitude and general warmth of the staff, and even after just three days, we were greeted by name by virtually everyone. The bar and restaurant might be small, but so is the resort. While we may have been visiting in low season, the hotel was so spacious and quiet we hardly saw anyone, a wonderful bonus to an already wonderful hotel. Would we come back? In a heart beat!
