My wife and I loved our first trip to Bali so we decided to visit again. Short getaway before (the volcano eruption) and the end of my wife's maternity leave - stayed a total of three nights. Transportation: Banyan Tree Ungasan is on the southern tip of Bali so you probably won't have to worry about the volcano eruption or pyroclastic flow... jokes aside, its pretty remote so you will either want to rent a vehicle or hire a driver as it takes about 40 minutes to reach the airport by car. Since Bali is fairly big itself, having a vehicle at your disposal would facilitate your trip around the island as some of the scenic points are pretty far away. The closest one would be the Uluwatu temple about 20 minutes away. The resort: The condition of villa seems well kept, despite the high occupancy rate of the resort. We stayed in an ocean view villa, and it was quite spacious even when compared to other luxury resorts. There was a strange smell as we first entered which then quickly dissipated when we lit the incense and aromatic oils available in the rooms (probably due to the air conditioning unit). As there were weddings everyday during our stay, the main pool was closed off to the other guests at 3pm. Unfortunately, the resort did not inform us prior to our arrival so we were somewhat disappointed, but they did offer us a driver (to take us out to the city) or a spa treatment to make up for it. Buggy service can be slow since there were a lot of guests staying at the resort, and we mostly ended up walking to the restaurant. On the bright side, the breakfast buffet they serve was awesome, definitely give the truffle lobster toast a shot. My wife was still breast feeding at this point, and we wanted to freeze the milk so we may take it back with us upon our departure. I appreciate the staff for helping us in this endeavor, helping us transport and store the milk in their kitchen freezer and allowing us to access it whenever we needed to. We were also provided with a bottle sterilizer in our villa as well (just let them know ahead of time). Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to visit the beach but the infinity pool was lovely itself. While the staff was very friendly and helpful, but if they are trying to serve a resort full of guests the level of service is bound to suffer. Overall, I would still recommend this resort for those that like their peace and quiet, but check their schedule and occupancy if you want to make your stay more enjoyable.

I went to bali with my family, this trip even special because this is the first ever holiday with my wife and my first child who just turned 5 months. I can say this hotel is the best hotel we ever stayed, the best villa, the best service, the best everything you can say. We stayed at pool villa, even thought we stayed at the cheapest (still expensive tho -- but all worth it) but still, its all there, you get the ocean view, basically all the villas design are the same, you got really close with the bfast place (walking distance). Thank you banyan tree for all the hospitality, this hotel makes my family and my first child trip ever even more memorable!

We stayed at the Banyan Tree Ungasanfor 2 days during our roundtrip and enjoyed avery minute of it. The rooms were huge, stylsih and very well serviced. The infinity pool was just one step outside the living room and even had a separate jacuzzi outside. Guest are mainly from asian origin and many use the stylish weeding chapel to be wed in an outstanding ambiance. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of treats to choose from. The main infinity pool is also a real breath taker and makes for some unforgetable pictures. As the holtel is situated on top of a cliff you have to walk a few stairs to the beach but you can also have a golf cart to drive you there an back. Watch out for some monkeys that sit on the sides and enjoying their lunch.

Recently stayed in a 2 bed garden villa, as a family of four (2 children aged 4 and 6). We had a nice time, but there are a few points to highlight: - Firstly, ALL the staff are lovely. Everyone always has a smile and is very polite and helpful. This is what makes this place a pleasure to stay at! - Our villa would not be good for younger children, as there is a water feature as you walk in, and separating the two rooms (you walk over water). Also, the rooms are more like two separate villas, connected by a walkway, that require a swipe card entry. This was a worry at night/early morning with our kids, because they could not access our villa (and it was safest to lock the rooms). - The villas themselves are palatial! They are huge! Very clean and well appointed. A small clothes washer, larger fridge and microwave would be fantastic. The villa pool and spa were great! - The kids enjoyed kids club. There was not much in the way of toys/activities, but we took our own. The staff were fantastic! - This resort is quite isolated. It takes a 20 min taxi ride to get to anywhere. This is the place to stay if you don't want to get out and about much. - We ate at Bambu mostly, and the food was good. The breakfast had a great range of food. The Indonesian food at Bambu was amazing! - We ate once at Ju-Na-Ma (the posh restaurant) and did not enjoy it. It is quite expensive and the food was not pleasant. It seems they are trying to be sophisticated, but missing the mark (steak with truffle mash and teriyaki veg?!?!) - The wine is extremely expensive. I understand that you will always pay a premium for wine, but the prices were ridiculous. They charged over $150AUD for a $20AUD bottle of Australian wine. Champagne cocktails are $50AUD each! Unfortunately, this does ruin the dining experience as you cannot justify drinking wine with your meal. We stuck to drinking the delicious cocktails! - There is not much in the way of a party/fun vibe. We regularly went to happy hour for the amazing cocktails by the pool, and we were the only ones there! We stayed as part of a luxury escapes deal, which was ok value. I think if you stayed here full price you may be disappointed. The overall feel is not quite 5 star - maybe 4.5 star? They are missing on the smaller details - smelly public toilets, exposed rusted air con units etc. Overall, if you are looking for a private escape, or on a honeymoon, this place would be great. If you want to be amongst any other sort of local atmosphere, I would not recommend this place.

Having just spent 9 nights at Banyan Tree Ungasan, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The villas are extraordinary - luxurious and spacious with every possible amenity. The staff were welcoming and friendly - always smiling and happy to accommodate any request. The food was fabulous - lots of choice at breakfast and the in-villa dining was great. Special thanks to Dian in the Bamboo restaurant and to Executive Chef Manuel Morales, visiting from Banyan Tree Mayakoba, who went out of his way to make us delicious Mexican food (and even delivered it personally to our villa to serve us). We also had the pleasure of meeting Alfonso Romero , General Manager, who showed us great hospitality. We will definitely be back!
