Reviews for Four Seasons Bali at Sayan

Dependable Five Star Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

TL;DR: The resort lobby is just beautiful. The villa was large, clean and comfortable. The staff more than friendly and charming, and the Sambal best I every tasted. Definitely experience the SAYAN VALLEY PICNIC and the NIGHT RITUAL SPA. Bali has a plethora of luxury resorts, but did you know that there are only FOUR 5 start resorts according to Forbes Travel Guide? Two of those are the Four Seasons Resorts (Sayan and Jimbaran) and after having visited FS Bali Sayan, I can definitely see why! I am the kind of traveller that likes to do all the planning myself. Which means, I have a huge list of questions and requests prior to arrival. Four Seasons Sayan was the quickest to answer all my questions out of any hotel I have stayed. Of course, I did communicate to a number of staff members, but AHEN of the concierge team was always super fast and informative with his answers. Not only that, he was so accommodating to all my changing requests and questions. I was so honored to meet him at the hotel on our last morning. Best concierge ever. Thank you Ahen! Now to our actual stay. Upon arrival, we were given a double upgrade (from the duplex) to a One Bedroom Garden Villa (so grateful!). The villa was spacious and beautiful with a good sized garden. The hotel had some Gado-gado (local vegetable dish) along with local prepared in the room for us in case we were hungry after the flight. We arrived at midnight, so we immediately took a shower and went to sleep. DAY 1 In the morning, we had breakfast in the villa. And walked around the hotel grounds. During the day, there are local musicians playing Calung (xylophone like instrument made of bamboo) in the lobby. If you'd like, you can actually play with them too! JOHN, one of the musicians were so charming and friendly, he really put me in a great mood :) SAYAN VALLEY PICNIC At 1pm, we had the 'Sayan Valley Picnic' for lunch, which I would HIGHLY recommend. We met with ONG the sous chef and ADI in the lobby, and walked about 5 minutes to a beautiful setting atop the river with an amazing view of their own terraced rice fields. There are a number of steps on the way, but Ong and Adi were gracious enough to help my mom. If my mother of 69 can do it, I'm sure most people can. The setting was beautiful and the food so good. Four Seasons' Sambal is I think the best I've ever had. Wish I could have brought it home! NIGHT SPA RITUAL In the evening, we had the 'Night Spa Ritual' at 7pm. I was a bit nervous about being naked in the nature (will mosquitos feast on me? will I be too cold?). But it was one of the best experiences ever. I think they have the availability to accommodate one team per night, so if you have the chance you MUST try it. The sound of the river and nature is just divine and the weather was perfect. And we got zero mosquito bites! BELA was my therapist, and it was hands down the BEST massage I've had in my life. (If you check out my other reviews, you'll realize I basically get a massage everywhere I go. I've been getting massages regularly since I was 14). My mother's therapist was RUSMINI and she was quite pleased with the treatment also. DAY 2 We had breakfast at the Ayung Terrace. Definitely come early for the view. It's amazing. We had initially booked the 'Sunrise Breakfast', but cancelled the night before because we wanted to sleep in after the massage. We also tried to book the 'Private Lotus Rooftop Dinner', but it was already booked. I think if you're a couple visiting the hotel, this would also be a great dining experience to have since the rooftop lotus pond is just beautiful. SAYAN BOUTIQUE The hotel has a pretty big store inside. The selections are actually great. We ended up buying a few items there. They have mostly local selections and whoever chooses the items has a great eye. I would definitely recommend a visit. CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? TOUR After breakfast, we went on the 'Can You Keep a Secret?' Tour with RAI. First, we went to a small neighborhood temple surrounded by huge banyan trees. There were neighborhood children playing sports and wild roosters roaming around. The banyan trees gave a very jungle-like mood. There's a village (which shall not be named, and hence the name of the tour) connected to the temple, and so we took a stroll through what is basically a small road with houses on each side. We got to actually visit one of the 'compounds'. So apparently in Bali, multiple families live together in a compound. Then we visited Taman Pancaka temple where usually you can experience a water blessing. However we opted out of the actual blessing. It was a short but enjoyable tour. I think seeing the compound was the highlight of the tour. We actually had a very short stay of 2 nights and 3 days (2 full days), and thought it was way too short. On our way to checkout, we were lucky to have DEWA as our buggy driver. He basically gave us a mini tour of the hotel grounds with detailed explanations, which we really appreciated. If you go to Bali and want a 5 star resort experience, Four Seasons Sayan is the way to go.

A resort that we want to come back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My family stayed at Sayan for 5 nights (and 4 nights at Jimbaran). The resort was beautiful, tranquil, food was amazing and the services were impeccable. From day 1 we were greeted by our names. Staff were engaging in conversations and extremely accommodating to our requests. We made many friends at the resort such as Dewa , Roy (and his twin brother at Jimbaran), Gita, Kusuma, Dwi, Dinda, Wedya and Ahen (who I bumped into again at the Jimbaran beach later on) and a few more (sorry I cannot recall their names). We took part in three distinctive activities namely “Can you keep a secret” tour, rafting and ATV. All activities took a good 3-4 hours respectively outside the resort which we felt very memorable and time well spent. I do agree that some facilities in our room were a bit outdated (e.g. The hinges in TV cupboard were broken and the shower door could not be completely shut which always left a gap). However we could live with the issues. Last but not least, there were a few free activities such as Yoga classes, Balinese dancing. There was also a free taxi service going to Ubud centre and back at scheduled times. All in all, we are pleased that we had spent enough time to enjoy what Sayan and Ubud could offer. And we may see you again!

Was nice but not impressive

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The hotel overall was nice and we had a good experience, however, unfortunately,it did not meet our expectations. For the rate that we paid (around $1400 per night) we expected the WOW experience and at least breakfast to be included. Breakfast was not included but we still ordered it (for extra fee)and it was delicious! Since it was our anniversary trip, they did surprise us with champagne and a small cake (which was nice). Service was okay, room was a little outdated. There is nothing much to do around the hotel and they offer very few activities. My husband and I have stayed at much better higher end hotels for half the price.
