Dining is a multi-faceted experience at Ubud Hanging Gardens. The Restaurant features international cuisine showcasing local ingredients, in a serene setting of pure tranquility. The chef uses a modern and innovative cooking approach that combines global flavors with a strong focus on quality ingredients, all infused with creativity and originality. The casual River Café overlooks the Ayung River and serves up healthy salads and fresh wraps, and private dining or picnic baskets stashed with an array of edibles are additional options for meals. The sublime bar and lounge, near the main pool, features living room-style seating plus a wall of doors that push to the side blending the outdoors with the interiors. I have booked this hotel (one night) for my boyfriend's birthday in July 2016. It was a surprise for him but we were both totally impressed by this fabulous luxury hotel in the middle of the jungle (so peaceful!). I booked the panoramic villa and everything was magical from the private pool in our villa, the giant bathroom, the comfy bed to the double infinity pool of the hotel. The view and the villa were amazing, we will both keep a magical memory of our stay in Hanging Gardens and of our trip in Bali. It will remain an unique experience in our lives. Very expensive but totally worth it.

The views from the room were to die for! Hanging Gardens delivers on its promisse on hanging above the jungle We decided to leave Seminyak for 1 night and head for the beautiful mountainous jungles of Ubud and stay at hanging gardens. We had 3 rooms (2 Panorama Villas, 1 Riverside) We had an amazing night hanging out in your private pool in the morning/ night with the view is a memory I will not soon forget. Unfortunatly our friend in the riverside did not have such an experience, I think that due to being so close to the river he had issues with bugs (spiders, big lizards, mosquitos etc.) which is to be expected in the jungle. The Panorama Villas are higher up and hence are less prone to bugs (we had none). I wish I could say all was amazing...one thing that they have to work on is the food in the restaurant (Sadly since your are 20min from downtown Ubud). but other than that Great stay Great Staff highly recommended!

We had an amazing stay, also had an amazing afternoon tea. You will find the place is worth for what you paid. Spectacular view, room by the river is just perfect. The view from the swimming pool also amazing. Staffs are very humble and lovely, the foods are also fantastic. Highly recommend and definitely will go back.

stayed very close to the river and the villa was beautiful, secluded and private. The grounds were amazing, hotel staff friendly and helpful but formal. My concern was for the price we paid extras should be included. We did the bike ride and an extra hike both of which were extra. Our guide simply took off and rarely looked back to see if were were still there. He was so far ahead of us. Also a charge for the tote bag if we wanted it. No snacks anywhere. Little touches like that should be included. But other than that we had a wonderful time, a stunning hotel. Breakfast was wonderful

This is a tough review to write... there is so much to love about Hanging Gardens. And yet I feel at almost every turn it leaves you wanting a little more or better to justify the luxury / 7 star rating. We stayed for 3 nights and booked into the Villa Suite (which is a few levels up from the entry range riverside rooms, and also premium to the panoramic villas), but in my view the room was overpriced for what you get. The villa is dated and in need of improvements. The villa layout is weird, there is the bedroom and bathroom in one building, and then a free standing separate living room not connected to the bedroom, also with a second bathroom. The pool in the villa is good, but the pools aren't private. For our villa guests standing at reception could look directly down to the area in the villa where the pool and sunbaking chairs are. A small side note, in every hotel that we stayed in at Bali there was always sunscreen and insect repellent provided free of charge in room - neither was provided at Hanging Gardens. I requested for some insect spray and was told they didn't have any, but I should be aware that as we were in the rainforest there are lots of mosquitoes so we should be using something! The main pool is amazing, and the views are stunning. No questions there. It is exceptional - and probably justifiable that there is a constant stream of guests taking selfies in the pool! Part of the charm of the resort is that you are in the heart of the rainforest away from everything - but that also means away from other dining options. We dined that the restaurant on the first night - food was good but wow it was expensive for the quality of the food. Pricing isn't just standard international hotel premium pricing, it really was overpriced. For our remaining two nights we went into Ubud town (30 minutes away) and had meals that were ten times as good as the restaurant food and a third of the price - so if you take away any tip from this, organise dinner restaurant bookings in town. There was a free shuttle bus that ran into town every two hours or so. We caught the 5pm bus (the last bus for the day) on two of the nights to head into town for dinner and drinks. The hotel would organise a cab home for you $17USD... so yes a complete rip off, but we took that option on both nights for the convenience of knowing that a driver was organised and would meet us at our restaurant to take us home. It's 30 minutes into town - but even with a cab fare, you are getting a lot better value for money in terms of premium dining options. And I'm talking world class dining - you need to check out Ubud centre, there is a fantastic food and drinks scene here. We booked in for four hours of spa treatments - that was very good. Once again you pay for it, so it was probably 25% overpriced compared to other luxury resorts that we stayed at in Bali. There is a daily afternoon tea provided complimentary - it was okay, could have been a lot better in terms of the food. We only went once and didn't bother going back on the other days. Staff are very friendly, but there was an element in almost every conversation of an upsell. So look it's a relaxing stay. The views are amazing and if you are looking to relax, you definitely can. If you are someone who likes to explore and head out for a drink and dinner, then being at a resort with one restaurant 30 minutes away from the action can be a limiting factor so consider that. It doesn't have the shlickness and modern comforts that resorts with this price tag should provide. Either side of our stay at Hanging Gardens we stayed at a private W Pool Villa in Seminyak, and an Ocean View Cliff Villa at Ayana Villas (all similar pricing around $1k per night), and the W and Ayana are miles ahead of Hanging Gardens. I wanted to love Hanging Gardens - don't get me wrong I enjoyed it - but I am struggling to see how it justifies the price tag and the "7 star" rating. I'd consider for a night at best, but there are better options in Ubud, and other parts of Bali. Hope that helps!
