About the Hotel

The bungalows at Hotel Tjampuhan & Spa are carved from indigenous timber and adorned with Balinese artwork, fully immersed in the natural beauty and spiritual energy that defines Ubud. The hotel was built in 1928 for guests of Prince Ubud, and in the 1930s, the area became an artist colony, attracting its most illustrious resident, the German primitive painter Walter Spies. Spies’s two-story bungalow, restored to its historical splendor and available for retreats, presides over a lotus pond in the middle of the Balinese rainforest, where a meditative state is as easy to obtain as a breath of fresh air.

Brilliant spa hotel in a wonderful location. Inside the grounds is breathtaking, the rooms are spacious, cool and have everything you need. Breakfast was good quality and incredibly fresh. The staff are very welcoming and really make you feel at home, they really make the experience.

Great hotel to stay!

The Hotel was very good! Lovely place to stay and very friendly people. Enjoyed the spa which was great as well! Authentic Indonesian hotel. The location is also very good, close to Ubud and the rice fields. You can easily go everywhere. Would recommend this hotel.

Solo female traveler so my points of view will be different due to this. Given room a long way down many steps away from main building- told it was safe but poor lighting on steps at night and minimum security on door. Asked lovely trainee female staff member to help me down to my room- very slippery and I feel I am an able and fit person but concerned I would fall. Room set in tropical forest so great. Spacious and clean. Bath had step up into for shower. Views stunning and night sounds wonderful. Bit of a tricky walk into town and no shuttle service. Grab app or similar needed, but I walked. Good 15-20 minutes into more central shopping cafes etc. Restaurant disappointing and would not recommend the buffet- although lovely dance and music entertainment. Some staff more friendly than others. Pool x 2 small and limited seating. Spa onsite great and unique- in underground cave setting near the river- felt could do with a good clean especially taps and bath areas. , and again very slippery access. Massage was wonderful. A lot of outside people coming in to use so assume it comes well recommended .Overall enjoyable but not sure I’d return.

Beautiful Tjampuhan Hotel

A beautiful old hotel on the mountainside. Staff were lovely, rooms were clean and spacious. Buffet breakfast was a combination of western and traditional Balinese which was lovely. Within walking distance of main street of Ubud. The pool was fabulous and the spa, down the bottom of the hillside was set in lush tropical gardens with intricate stone carvings.
