Kamandalu Ubud in Bali, Indonesia

The Petanu River carves out a lush valley that cradles Kamandalu Ubud, a collection of villas that immerses guests in the Balinese way of life. “Kamandulu,” adopted from Sanskrit, means “the vessel that holds the holy water,” a moniker that encourages finding inner peace. Built from native wood and stone with peaked alang-alang grass roofs, the resort is a nurturing home base for authentic encounters with the countryside’s shrines, villages and other cultural attractions.

Listen to the sounds of the rainforest from your four-poster bed. Go for a solitary walk, following stone paths past a lotus pond surrounded by frangipani and hibiscus. Quiet your mind until you feel the vibration of a passing hummingbird. Continue your exploration through Tampak Siring villages to the moss-covered Gunung Kawi temple. Tuck into a plate of Javanese fried rice.

Recently traveled to Bali stayed 4 days in Ubud a Kamandalu. It's location is pretty good, about a 15 minute drive from Ubud center. Close enough to get in and out when you want to but far enough to be away from the crowd. The hotel itself is on a beautiful plot of land that has really good landscaping and vegetation. Rooms are a good size and there are two pools, a Yoga studio and a Spa on site. They offer some fun day activities and have all day shuttle services to and from Ubud center. All in all we had a good time there. That said we kind of felt like there were area's that could be better; everything was good, not great. All in all for the price I think it's a good deal and we enjoyed our stay but understand that if your looking for a dream vacation...you may want to spend more and get more...

The Kamandalu resort was a big disappointment for us... Rather than ramble on here are a few plus and minus points from our perspective: + all of the staff were extremely friendly and did genuinely want to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. + the grounds of the resort are very well maintained and picturesque. - breakfast was poor, limited selection and quality. On all four occasions of requesting poached eggs they were hard boiled, that's either a poor chef or lack of attention. Who wants hard boiled poached eggs benedict? Food standard in general was not 5 star. We only tried breakfast and lunch, we went to the Viceroy for dinner and that was extremely good, what I expected at Kamandalu. - the villa, it certainly has the initial WOW factor but actually they are a little run down. We had mould on our ceilings, shower and in the private pool. - pool sun loungers, at the main pool they are hard wicker and pretty uncomfortable. By the infinity pool they only have 8 bean bag type loungers. So when more than 8 people are there there was no where to sit. I also felt it was a little cheeky having a giant inflatable swan by the pool but charging the kids Ā£10 to use it for 3 hours..... yes I did pay.... but once the kids had seen it what choice do you have. If I was judging this hotel as a bottom end 5 star, been awarded for facilities not so much quality, I would probably have been a lot happier with my stay. But the hotel's promotional material and price certainly sets expectations of a few days of 5 star luxury. Sadly it's attention to detail let's let's what could be a wonderful hotel down. That lies solely with the management of the hotel, who defiantly don't have attention for detail in mind, proven by not even responding directly on my requests to speak with them about my experience. Even on check out they didn't ask if I enjoyed my stay, when I told them I was disappointed they just said "sorry". Not once did they ask why, there lies the problem with this hotel.....

The Villas are amazing with great views, the hotel got beatifull space. But the infinity pool was broken, and the service is Good but i think NOT enought. The spa are not Good. The terapist and the oil are not Good.

Nice villa with pool we stayed. Food is so so but every expensive. A breakfast buffet cost us more than US$40, not worth the money! Friendly staff and well organized activities thru out the days in the resort

A great, higher end of the market resort in Ubud. Fantastic facilities, service, staff and location - surrounded by green jungle and feeling of truly being away from it all, in a five star sense. Free good standard yoga every morning with a terrific breakfast set you up for each day you spend in Ubud. The staff are second to none and I would recommend this place to anyone.
