About the Hotel

From the vantage point of your private terrace, it would seem that Komaneka at Monkey Forest is a secluded retreat deep into the jungles of Indonesia. Not so: The colorful cafés and cultural institutions that put Ubud on the map are just a few minutes down Monkey Forest Road. This is a resort that encompasses the best of both worlds. Spacious villas combine marble, hardwoods, and rich Balinese fabrics for an artfully distinguished ambiance set against a backdrop of palms. Spa treatments call upon local healing arts that have been passed down for generations.

Feeling at home

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

My stay at Komaneka at Monkey Forest was truly delightful. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was incredibly friendly, particularly Angus. When I found myself suffering from Bali belly in the middle of the night, I reached out to the reception via WhatsApp in hopes of borrowing some medicine. To my surprise, Angus responded promptly, even at 2 o’clock in the morning, and personally delivered the needed tablets. He also advised me to go to hospital if I continued to feel unwell. He literally saved my life and words cannot express my gratitude. The lady in restaurant is also super friendly with warmest smile. Thank you Komaneka at Monkey Forest.

Fabulous family holiday!

We had two forest suites for our family of 4 overlooking the rice field. One on top of the other. It wasn’t as bright and light looking as the website pictures which shows windows behind the bed and having a garden patio, but it was lovely all the same and we were very close to the pool which was super handy. The rooms are huge and very clean and nicely decorated. The interior is maybe showing some signs of age and not a fancy 5 star style if that’s what you are looking for, but they are very comfortable and have a lovely rustic charm and we loved staying here. The huge dressing room was great! They left a lovely welcome basket of snacks and drinks and provided us with as much bottled water as we needed during the stay which we appreciated. The pool area is beautiful and peaceful, with luxury loungers and staff on hand in a nearby hut to order food and drinks and keep the area always neat and tidy - and chase the monkeys away should they venture in for a visit! They came in once but other days we saw them swinging in the distance which the kids found very exciting to watch from the pool. We spent hours lounging by the gorgeous pool each day and hardly saw any other people. It was so peaceful, we felt like we had the resort to ourselves! Yet just outside the front driveway, you are right in the thick of so many great restaurants and shops! There is a mini market/dairy right out front. The breakfast and afternoon tea was just lovely, our kids loved it and we loved all the nearby restaurants we ate at. It was fun watching the monkeys make their way up the street each afternoon on the buildings and power lines. We didn’t even go into Monkey forest as we saw them a lot outside and my daughter was scared to get too close to so many in the forest. A 15 min walk to the right of the resort gets you to the Lotus temple, the markets, the palace and we even walked 10 mins further from there and did the Campuhan Ridge walk with a well deserved drink at a little jungle village we arrived at. We walked back to the track entrance and took a cab home super cheap as it was quite hot & there were several cabs waiting there. Our cab driver was so friendly, we ended up booking him for a half day sightseeing tour for $60NZD where he took us to the nearby Tegalalang rice fields, a waterfall and the Pura Irta Empul temple. He knew all the tricks with timings for less crowds and it was a great trip driving through local villages and being dropped at the entrance everywhere. Turn left walking out of the hotel and in 10 mins you will be at the monkey forest with many good restaurants and bars. There’s shopping all the way along both ways. Such a great location with kids in the heat! We could explore for a few hours, return to swim and cool off, eat afternoon tea and then explore for more hours. The staff here were all so lovely and we felt so well looked after! Our room was serviced so early each day, help was only ever seconds away should you need it. It was a treat staying at this little boutique and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks Komaneka Monkey Forest!!

Outstanding concierge service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Komaneka at Monkey Forest exceeded all our expectations. The room was beautiful, we loved our private pool, and the breakfasts were outstanding. But what set them apart was their next level personalized service and attention to detail. They offered the most authentic and outstanding service I have experienced anywhere in the world. After we checked into our room, we spoke to the concierge about plans for the next day, and then we went to the on site restaurant. At the restaurant, the server knew our name and our plans for the next day. Each time we walked through the hotel, employees would smile, greet us by name, and often asked about activities we did that day and activities we would be doing the following day. The concierge helped us plan daily itineraries and booked us a private driver. On our last night, the concierge went above and beyond to help us when our flights were canceled. It proved very difficult to book alternate last minute flights but with the concierge’s help, we were successful. She even helped us book a last minute hotel at our next destination to make the travel itinerary changes more tolerable. And then she even followed up with us after we got to our next destination to make sure our travels went smoothly. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and I will be forever grateful for their authentic care and attention they offered to ensure we had a special holiday.

Super friendly hotel, incredibly convenient location yet peaceful.

Have been coming to Komaneka at Monkey Forest off and on for 15 years. It has changed over time but it still hard to beat for location and relaxation. I did have one stay where my sleep was thwarted by a band of cockerels, but not since. The hotel is set back from the main road so you wouldn’t know you are on the Main Street. This trip really enjoyed the daily yoga and whilst breakfast stops at 10am, the lovely ladies at breakfast would accommodate a quick pit stop on the way through. Would be ideal if they could move yoga to 8.30-9.30 or extend breakfast to 10.30 The hotel is getting a bit tired in places (the beds could use an upgrade) and post covid the monkeys are a nuisance at the pool but we keep coming back for the friendly welcome and convenience

Stunningly beautiful

Ubud is the place to stay in Bali. The cultural center of Bali. Absolutely gorgeous resort in the heart of Ubud. Easy walk to the shops and restaurants. Beautiful rooms with all the amenities you could want. Easy walk to Monkey Forest, a must to see, as well as the entire town. Don't stay anywhere else. This is the answer.
