Puri Wulandari in Bali, Indonesia

With a tapestry of rice fields, verdant flora and blue skies, Puri Wulandari, is the perfect prescription for a healing retreat. Located in Ubud, Bali, the resort has luxurious amenities and features prevailing Balinese architecture that weaves a ribbon of allure throughout the property. With less than three dozen one- and two-bedroom villas swathed in over-the-top comforts, private retreats include living and dining areas, bathrooms with oversize tubs, and private swimming pools for an intimate plunge. All the necessary modern devices are present as well, from flat-panel televisions and DVD players to mini bars stocked with a stash of gourmet snacks and premium spirits.

There is a pair of dining venues to sample, and both will leave you feeling satisfied after a sumptuous meal. At the Janger Restaurant you will find fine dining and a menu of fusion fare, while Legong Terrace presents a selection of Italian and Mediterranean dishes that tantalize the palate. But it is Lila Ulangun Spa where guests tend to spend the most indulgent time, enjoying an ultra pampering menu of soothing treatments. This sanctuary houses open-air treatment rooms where massages and body polishes are administered in quiet comfort. There are steam and sauna chambers plus an infinity-edge pool for added pleasure. The resort's setting on an idyllic slope side that overlooks the Ayung River Valley, truly feels as if you have been transported to the ends of the earth - a place to clear your mind and relish in the moment.

If wanting to stay away from all the business of Ubud.. this is the answer. Staff so friendly and always obliging and smiling. Each villa has private plunge pool of a real decent size. Pool overlooks jungle. Large villas whereby you can be "away from it all" and relax and unwind. Service is just a call away. Food at restaurant was delicious if wanting to eat in. Breakfast included and we had it delivered to our villa on most days. Breakfast area of resort overlooks infinity pool and jungle, relaxing way to start the day. If wanting to sight see.. the resort will arrange a taxi for you. I would highly recommend. Ubud 10 minutes away by tax and approx $10 Aust. Buggies available "on call" to get around resort if you wish. We like quiet and this is perfect.

This is an incredible hotel in the middle of the jungle, it has an amazing view and every villa has its own pool, dining room and 2 decks, indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, but what really makes it special is the treatment you get by the personal.

a breathtaking spot where you starting your day in the heart of the nature with 100% privacy where you can enjoy your stay with a private pool the only annoying thing was insects which is expected as the hotel looking on huge number of trees.

We stayed here for three nights over my 30th birthday and we really enjoyed it! Our one bed villa with private infinity pool was perfectly sized and offered amazing jungle views! The whole place is immaculately maintained and we didn't experience any insect issues during our stay. As the resort is set into a mountain side, it is quite steep in parts and very large to get around especially if you are in the villa's further down the valley. Fortunately, the staff have buggies onsite to transport you around and save your legs, all you need do is book one. Breakfast was up on the terrace near the main reception area and it offers up stunning views across its own infinity pool which looks out onto the mountain, the surrounding jungle and then down to the valley an Ayung river below. Breakfast itself has a good selection of both western and Indonesian dishes, fruit, pastries and cereals etc and it can be as big or as small as you want. We found the food to be of okay quality. There is a drop off and pick up service into the main area of Ubud, this is at set times. Personally, I agree with other reviewers that they could do with adding later collection times to this as sometimes guests would like to leave later and stay out later for meals. You can just get a taxi back which we did a couple of times, but as the hotel is a bit out of the way you do pay more for it, it's still pretty reasonable though. As mentioned in previous reviews you do hear the occasional noise from the whitewater rafting going on below, but it was barely noticeable to us and did not detract from our stay at all. What was slightly disappointing was the overinflated cost of food and drink here, we expect higher costs in hotels as standard but having travelled around Bali this was the highest cost we came up against. I think had the costs been a bit more reasonable we probably would never have left the hotel. The staff are fantastic and go the extra mile! Case in point, we went out into Ubud to celebrate my birthday and when we returned later that even 3 staff members were waiting outside of our villa with cake to wish me happy birthday, a lovely touch which was really appreciated and unexpected considering the late hour. We also loved waking up every morning to the sound of the jungle and the water gently lapping over our pool. I would highly recommend getting up a bit earlier to watch the sunrise, you can get some fabulous photo's! But tbh anywhere in the resort makes for enviable pictures. All in all despite some of the minor issues mentioned above we enjoyed our time here and wish we had stayed longer. We will definitely be back!
