Puri Wulandari in Bali, Indonesia

With a tapestry of rice fields, verdant flora and blue skies, Puri Wulandari, is the perfect prescription for a healing retreat. Located in Ubud, Bali, the resort has luxurious amenities and features prevailing Balinese architecture that weaves a ribbon of allure throughout the property. With less than three dozen one- and two-bedroom villas swathed in over-the-top comforts, private retreats include living and dining areas, bathrooms with oversize tubs, and private swimming pools for an intimate plunge. All the necessary modern devices are present as well, from flat-panel televisions and DVD players to mini bars stocked with a stash of gourmet snacks and premium spirits.

There is a pair of dining venues to sample, and both will leave you feeling satisfied after a sumptuous meal. At the Janger Restaurant you will find fine dining and a menu of fusion fare, while Legong Terrace presents a selection of Italian and Mediterranean dishes that tantalize the palate. But it is Lila Ulangun Spa where guests tend to spend the most indulgent time, enjoying an ultra pampering menu of soothing treatments. This sanctuary houses open-air treatment rooms where massages and body polishes are administered in quiet comfort. There are steam and sauna chambers plus an infinity-edge pool for added pleasure. The resort's setting on an idyllic slope side that overlooks the Ayung River Valley, truly feels as if you have been transported to the ends of the earth - a place to clear your mind and relish in the moment.

We spent 4 nights in the villa. The staff is nice and communicated ok before the stay via emails and they set everything that we wished for (twin mattresses - but very tiny bed size for 2 separated people, sunny villa etc.). A hotel is few kilometers from Ubud center so be prepared to buy food and drink in hotel mainly. Check in was ok - strange you have to stay (no chairs near the check in desk) and making payment. Moved us to our villa with buggy and gave us whole information about the services etc. with out Butler. My few thoughts: You get 2 identical keys (one from the villa and one from the main door of the villa) and every time you need these you have to figured out which one is which (solution could be simple, just put some mark on 1 key). No one told us how to switch off lights outside the villa - well after minutes of searching we gave it up and realized, these lights are automatic and bit annoying at night for sleep. Villa is equipped with everything you need (toilet and bathroom things, towels, everyday cookies, slippers ...). Wifi is fine but you cannot use private SMTP which is for such luxury hotel not so common - Google smtp works. Many sites are blocked, use VPN if you want to reach these. The water of pool villa is cold. If you are going to buy such expensive villa you want to stay in pool hours and admire the view - well few seconds or minutes and you have to go out - very cold. Breakfast is served at the main pool area, tasted ok, no complaints - but I would prefer buffet one - I do not like asking and selecting things for service. If you want breakfast into your room, you have to fill order form day before and hang it on a villa door (not so comfortable solution) and this service is for 70K IDR. All day menu which can be delivered into villas is fine and tasting good. Prices for the dish are like 90-200k IDR (taxes included). I do not have complaints about the food price as others guests because if I have money for such villa, I have money to get food for a 6-8USD per portion). Villa cleaning is twice per day. I have to complain here: that they do the everyday cleaning but they do not replenish villa bar or forget to return tea cups that I have to call them etc. It is too much "say us what you want and we are going to deliver it" oriented instead of "everything is in place, here it is, just take it". If you want a taxi, hotel will add like 200k or more to a taxi price, so if you want to save more, use Uber etc. Our stay was fine, but I do not think we are going back anytime. Cold water in the pool is a waste of everything and we can admire UBUD from standard hotel rooms for the much better price and stay in nice sea warm villas somewhere with warm water.

I loved how the place was private and romantic, but I did not like that the pool was not heated so the water was a little cold for me. I made a special request to the hotel which is stay in a high placed villa so I can enjoy swimming in the pool without worrying about someone seeing me, and I was very glad to see them provide that for me! We stayed there New Year's eve and they had fireworks, which I had fun watching. However, the room had a frog wandering around and we were sleeping and it was on top of our bed tent making sounds. We also had a few bugs which is normal since you are staying in the middle of nature, so that's something to consider if you don't like bugs. Note: Our stay was from December 29, 2014 till January 1, 2015.

My husband and I stayed here end of July for 4 nights in a one bedroom pool villa. It was stunning and so much room just for the 2 of us! Our butler orientated us to the Villa. Loved the outdoor area with lounge and day bed and pool overlooking Ayung river. Spotlessly clean. Pool so refreshing. Loved our outdoor shower area too. Very private. We ate one night at the restaurant and food was amazing. We had breakfast at restaurant each morning. Ala carte and beautiful food. Majority of people eat in Ubud but worth eating at Resort too. Ubud 15 mins by shuttle or private driver. I also had a 2 hour massage with Lulur scrub and bath- bliss! Worth every cent. Only criticism was that our room wasn't ready for nearly 2 hours on our arrival! If they had said it would be that long we would have swum in main pool as we were very hot. The resort is very quiet overlooking the jungle and surrounded by rice paddies on the impressive entrance driveway. Majority of couples staying but did see a couple of families. It's worth mentioning that it's a very steep resort too but they have a buggy to pick you up from room and drop you back if you wish. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful at all times. It isn't cheap to stay here but well worth it. Would definitely return.

This place is magical ! I've never experienced such hotel in my life. My wife and I spent 4 nights at Puri for our honeymoon. The place is very clean, well located, astonishing views, etc. The service is EXCELLENT! We got a special honeymoon treatment. Each person in the staff is excellent. They always make sure that we have everything we need and that we spend a perfect time. Also, food is very good and you can get 24h room service ! Thank you for making our honeymoon very special and for making us special.

We spent 5 nights in a single room villa with pool . These are lovely villas large airy a mix of spaces and your own pool all very private and the jungle views are spectacular. This is the place to relax and to soak up the the peace. The complex is sited down a steep mountain side every rooms fronts the jungle with the river deep below. Your movement about the resort apart from walking are via buggies readily available. The surrounds and rooms are immaculately maintained. The breakfasts are excellent but the restaurant menu needs a makeover with the wine list extended and prices lowered if they want more guests to eat there..The resort is about a 15 minute drive into Ubud with regular shuttles running . The staff are very attentative and friendly, the massages highly recommended.
