Banyan Tree Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand

There’s something to be said for a 21st-story outdoor swimming pool, but Banyan Tree Bangkok is not just a vertical resort. Situated in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic cultural centers, amidst the best retail and entertainment, this is a headquarters of sophistication. It even offers a “shopping companion” to guide you through the city’s alleyways. And with its aromatherapy burner, even your room is a journey for the senses. The restaurant’s 53rd-floor restaurant Taihei serves sake and sashimi in the clouds, and everyone from concierge to massage therapist extends the hospitality for which Thailand is known.

Indulge in a breakfast of banana pancakes and a traditional Thai coffee, sweetened with condensed milk. Energized, visit Bangkok’s Grand Palace, the home of Thailand’s president, and stroll through the famous Buddhist temple Wat Pho, home of the giant Reclining Buddha. On your way to the river, you’ll only need a couple dozen baht to enjoy the street food: chicken satay, mango sticky rice, roast pork belly or a shell of coconut milk. Board Banyan Tree’s own “Aspara” riverboat and enjoy an elegant dinner of crab in coconut broth as you see the traditional floating markets in action.

I stayed with my partner to celebrate the new year before heading back to the UK. We arrived on 30th December after a short flight from Cambodia. Check in was very smooth with a cool drink and lovely scented flower garlands. As it was the new year, and was likely to be busy, we had already reserved dinner at Vertigo, dinner at Saffron and the Apsara dinner cruise. At check-in nobody gave us confirmation that these had been booked, or any information about the arrangements for the dinner cruise (how and when we would be transported there etc) We had to come down to the "Festive desk" later and ask these questions. Our room was on the 48th floor facing south with fantastic views of the river and city. It was a basic Horizon room and was more than sufficient for us. There was a lounge with sofa, TV, desk and chair, mini-bar, tea and coffee facilities. The bedroom had a separate TV. The bathroom had bath and separate shower enclosure. Dinner at Vertigo was amazing. The setting cannot be beaten. We were treated like royalty by Touch, our waiter. He checked our food allergies etc. and we ordered the set 4 course menu (with minor amendments for a nut allergy). We had cocktails and wine and it was all very expensive but worth it as a once in a lifetime experience. We walked across to Moonbar to check it out. It was horrendously busy. People had to walk past Vertigo diners and the area was crowded. We left quickly and wouldn't have wanted to be seated having dinner near that area. For new years eve we had pre-booked dinner at Saffron with a drinks package at the Sky Garden until after midnight. The meal at Saffron was a Thai set menu (with adjustments due to food allergies). Part way through the meal there were some puppeteers and traditional dancers to give diners entertainment - a lovely surprise. The food was excellent (8 courses I think) and our waiter was extremely helpful. We even got a gift at the end of our meal. We then headed down to the Sky Garden on the 51st floor I think. It's open to the air with fantastic views. We had unlimited drinks until well after 1pm. The music was loud and the light shows very bright, but we loved it - even though we were at the older end of those there! After breakfast next day we walked out to Lumpini Park to clear the cobwebs. It's about a 15 min walk past the Lumpini underground station. Watch out for the huge monitor lizards that hang out there. New years evening was the Apsara dinner cruise. We assembled at reception as advised, and were taken by mini bus to the jetty at the shopping centre. We had a little time to check out the shops then we were off on the boat for about 2 hours. The boat is open air and traditional style. There was a set Thai menu with adjustments for allergies (we were really pleased about this because it can be difficult having a nut allergy!). Excellent food and service. There was a stop for photos at Wat Arun and a leisurely cruise up the river and back. Everyone was very well looked after and got their souvenir photo afterwards. A lovely evening. We enjoyed our stay at Banyan Tree. The location is not the best for exploring nearby, but the underground station is only 10 mins walk away. Lumpini park is worth a look. There's a shopping centre not far away and the hotel arranges a free ride to the market at weekends (but it was fully booked up during our stay) We didn't try relaxing in the pool area as it is rather small with limited spaces, always in the shade and quite busy. The Sky Garden was our favourite spot. Perfect for new year's eve, and we went next day for a cocktail when it was much more civilised and relaxing to watch the sun set.

This hotel is pure luxury and class. From arrival to checkin you are treated like royalty. Every touch from ensuring the taxi meter is on when you call a cab to ensuring your pillows and bedding are to your liking in terms of firmness etc make this one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Breakfast is huge and good quality, the mimosa was an excellent option. We had dinner in the Vertigo restaurant which was a memory for life albeit an expensive one! Try the other restaurants like Saffron which may not be as flashy but equally amazing! One comment is that the pool is small and in the shade for most of the day. If you are going to treat yourself this is a great place to do it

One of Bangkok’s high class hotels with great service, friendly staff, class and quality at a reasonable price. Want to feel like a king or queen? Book a room at this hotel for a romatic night with your partner. Indulge in an amazing breakfast buffet! We upgraded our room to a suite at the 57th floor, it was amazing. Be sure to check out the skybar as well. On Saturday and Sunday the hotel offers a free shuttle to a BKK market!

It was our first stay in Banyan Tree and we are quite disappointed with the facilities. First, what we liked: - Rooftop restaurant and moon bar, food and views are amazing - Staff, specifically very good pool attendant Suksan. Made us free massage in the pool with the same quality as their SPA massage And this about it, because: - Room needs more space , a lot of unnecessary stuff - Poor breakfast , with scarce fruit selection for Thailand - Long taxi lines (prepare to wait up to an hour if a lot of people checking out) - Small pool area , very cold pool Considering a lot of inconveniences for the price paid, I'd recommend to consider other options in Bangkok.
